Pittsburgh Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger says 'marquee' quarterbacks garner more penalty calls - ESPN

Ben is already out there trying to intimidate / pressure the refs to give him calls and not call illegal hits on TB in two weeks. (hopefully that means squeelers have a trap game - )

For the Pats game - I hope it means squat; but the refs have been so schizophrenic this year with their calls (being generous; if I wasn't generous I would say they were steering games/playing favorites) that I dont have much faith anymore that they can't be manipulated.

I normally love it that BB is so non-disclosure /non-descript / deadpan humor usually (injury status etc.). but I wonder sometimes if that isn't a weakness on the ref issue.

ever since Polian started us on this road of changing the rules to suit his team each year; the quality of calls has steadily gone downhill. I think the refs uncertainty of the changing rules just makes them more susceptible to these play-the-media ploys than ever before.

ALL the players try to influence the refs in every game. You see it all the time on both sides.

Playing the media is nothing new either. Big Ben is just trying to build himself an excuse for losing.

Refs are only human, they make as many mistakes as anyone else.

The only difference between us and the refs, is that they're all blind when they miss a call against the opponent, whereas we can see the penalty perfectly.

Give Ben a break. It has to be tough when you are continually a good-great football team and another team is in your head :rocker:

The perception that Brady gets favorable treatment from opposing fans, and the media is infuriating to me.

There are metrics out there that are very easily researched that disprove that myth, but they refuse to let a simple thing like facts get in the way of a good witch hunt.

We own the Steelers.

Their frowns turn upside down when they hear Tom Brady and those medling Patriots are coming to town.

The steelers look like they took a step back this year. their OL is poor and they look old....I wont underestimate them though. they have alot of weapons.

this is going to be another test for our DL...if we can get consistent pressure on ben and force him to make bad throws(he isnt an accurate QB)...then brady/the running game will pick apart their old defense

Shouldn't Ben be more worried about his sorry O Line than how the refs treat brady.

Horrible calls by wishy washy refs are all part of Goddell's master plan to get the Jets into the superbowl.

This is why this numbskull is known leaguewide as "The Meathead".

"No offense to the other Patriots, but who wants to watch the Patriots if Tom Brady is out for the season?"

Ummmmm......Doofus: The Patriots went 11-5 WITHOUT Brady in 2008.

Only 3 out of the 7 season's HE'S been in the NFL have Steelers done better than THAT.

So, EINSTEIN, for the MAJORITY OF YOUR PLAYING CAREER, you just stated that no one would want to watch you and your team.

Typical Roethlisberger, bless his heart.

It's rather sickening to hear this low-life who has gotten away with some pretty skeevy acts in the past due to his celebrity whine about certain quarterbacks getting calls on the field due to their celebrity. I really think the guy is so stupid that he doesn't realize that if he couldn't throw a football, he'd be in jail or be pumping gas somewhere by now.

there's something you don't see eveyday...the Steelers complaining about the refs....

The whole complaining by Vick/Roethlisberger is rediculous anyways...

if you are a running QB who routienly leaves the pocket..OBVIOUSLY you are going to get hit more than someone like brady/manning who generally stay in the pocket.

are the defenses supposed to let Vick/roethlisberger run for first downs everytime they leave the pocket?? its a different situation

I think he is still bruised from the beating the Pats put on him last year. I wonder if BB is going to go with a smiliar gameplan just get after the Jockapus early and often....

Maybe Ben should become a marqee QB.

Dear Ben,

A two-tiered plan:

1) Stop whining.
2) Stop raping.

ROFL, I was just about to say. So he's saying he's NOT a marquee QB? Dude has won 2 superbowl rings (although one of them he was brought along for the ride by his defense). Dude should stop whining about the refs and just work on improving his own game and worry about making his own team better.

Maybe Ben should become a marqee QB.

Great link, robo! Both Vick and Roethlisberger draw more flags and at a higher rate than either Brady or Manning!

Speaking as a ref in two different sports (soccer and wrestling) --- that is an absolutely true statement.

I recently did a game where the high school team I was reffing had a two page dossier on every ref that they have seen in the past two years. I knew the coach so I read through their take on my style and performance, and while it was over whelmingly favorable, they correctly noted that I'll allow a good amount of hand fighting and I'm apt to miss an interior back heel trip. They noted that if I see it, I'm penalizing it heavily, but my foul recognition for that foul is at best adequate.

And that was at the high school level... college and professional teams/players know their referees even better as the repetition is higher and the ref pool is much smaller. So yeah, they are going to look for a 1% edge by getting the refs to second guess their eyes.

Sounds like Ben's overdue to jump on his motorcycle and forget his helmet again.

You mean they start smiling? Oh, wait, those are grimaces.

Yeah, that gem was posted here a couple weeks ago after Vicks B!atch session with the media.

It was a real eye opener, not surprised though. More times than not these theories backfire and the facts swing in TB's favor.

Not sure why Ben's so proud of the fact he doesn't ask for flags. Of course Brady wants a flag, move those chains, get a sleight advantage.

Smart QB's draw flags meatheads complain.
