Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

I was figuring the Colts and looking forward to him decapitating one of their tiny CB's while arriving late to break up the play. Oh well, at least we won't have to deal with all of the fake drama leading up to game week.

That is unless we play the Bears in the SB.igsfly:

That made my afternoon. I know they made the NFC championship last year but ugh I would think the whole NFC would have to lay down for them to make the SB.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

Yeah I had a similar thought. I guess since BB has no tape, no idea about S other than his own, he should fire up the Quija Board....

Jeeezusssss....

I've been thinking the Bears are going to be one of the teams that has a big drop this year, this should be interesting... but yes, better at arms length. And we won't be seeing the Bears in the SB (IMO) vs. any AFC team.

There will be pressure on him, as I see Detroit overtaking the Bears, not to mention what Greeen Bay does. I also don't understand all the rants against BB. My assumption is that he has more knowledge then the combined experience and football knowledge of our members. That's just a hunch, just sayin.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

He's a good fit for their defense but it's obvious that Belichick felt he wasn't a good fit for ours, and watching him last year I have to agree I just wish we had another known safety option on the roster.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

I'm glad he's out of the division.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

If there was any question as to how coveted Meriweather was as a NFL safety, the one-year deal announced by the Bears would appear to resolve it.

He could work better in the Bears' system, but he was a loose cannon with the Pats. Big physical ability and a 2 cent brain do not make a great fit for a complex Patriots defense.

This could have been a contract that Merriweather's team wanted. A prove it year/showcase year that would still allow him to be a free agent next offseason.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

Good luck to him. That Bears team has issues.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

That's why BB is coaching the team and you're at home on your computer averaging 8 posts a day every day for 5 years.

You can always tell who the idiots are.. They are the ones who have to insult people based on their post count...

Really. Isn't posting what these sites are all about ? Jeez Louise, lighten up.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

Good for him. I wish him the best.

I agree as 1 year deals typically are "prove it" opportunities for future contracts.

My point was more that in a free agent system, players regarded as currently great do not typically sign one year deals, especially younger players.

This article does a pretty good job of summarizing his possible scenarios with the Bears.

Re: Pats trying to trade Brandon Merriweather(was cut by Patriots)

So they automatically win another ring by cutting Meriweather? Nice logic.

By the way, the Pats had a VERY GOOD idea what they were getting with Harrison. He was an acclaimed head hunter and damn fine player that BB coveted long before he actually signed him. The assertion that he was an "unknown" is absurd.

Yes - that's exactly what I was saying - by cutting Meriweather we automatically have just won a Super Bowl.

Nice attempt at a slam. :bricks:

As I said, Belichick and some fans likely felt that Rodney was an adequate replacement, you won't find too many fans as of September 2003 stating that the guy who San Diego didn't feel was worth his salary and then cut would be the Patriots most dominant defensive player and earn back to back Pro Bowls. He had certainly won over the coaches and his fellow players - but up until Milloy's release he was providing quality depth - not a starter, in nearly every fan's mind.

(Show me ANYONE who thought that Milloy would be benched in favor of Harrison!)

The point here is that unless you think that Belichick had a stroke and has lost his ability to judge which guys give him the best chance to win, I'll take Belichick's assessment over yours to judge who the 53 players are who give the team the best chance to win.

I think what did Meriweather in was in part his off field issues, and in part his on-field issues - specifically a tendency to freelance and ignore Belichick's directives - something that no matter how talented a player may be, puts the defensive scheme at risk.

It's really not difficult to understand.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

I could see him in the Colts too. In fact, I wanted him on the Colts, Jets, Steelers...

Re: Pats trying to trade Brandon Merriweather

I hope Dowling stays at CB- he has excellent man coverage technique that would be wasted if he were moved to safety. Size is not so important at safety (instinct and technique is) as it is at corner where you simply can't let the receiver dictate off the line if you want to be known as a good corner. In the small sample size that Dowling has given us in the 4th preseason game, he really disrupted the routes of the receivers lined up against him.

I'm certainly no scout, but this is exactly what I have felt the entire time myself, despite all of the talk of moving him to safety.

Is MCGowan still available?

I think it's just easier for rookies to adjust to the challenges of playing DB in the NFL when they're facing the ball rather than with their backs to it.

Giving him time at safety initially doesn't mean he won't transition to CB when he's ready or when the team needs him.

yeah...of course you CAN'T give Rex Ryan ENOUGH credit can you..and there is not one area of "instability" on the mighty Jets...and of course, the direct question....who is the better QB , Tom Brady or Mark Sanchez? Go ahead...print your answer...

Joker:

Personally, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop attacking every non-Patriots fan that comes on the board and just allow a discussion to happen. Maybe it just seems that you are doing this but it's actually OK to root for a team other than the Patriots - and some of them occasionally have something worthwhile to say.

Duly noted...and I'll make an honest attempt to harness my contempt for these trolls.

If you think you are going to read anything worthwhile from Ray Ray 19/Jetfan1, I suggest you investigate his background at J.I. He has only one agenda...all Pats players and moves are inferior to anything the Jets and Rex Ryan have or are doing. THAT is why I asked him to answer a simple question...and THAT is why he refused and continues to refuse. You want to carry on a discussion with someone who is an intractable homer.

Re: Meriweather signs with the Bears

Merriweather is a coach killer.
He proved to be unpredictable from week to week.
By his own admission he would disregard his coaches
instructions and try something he thought would work better.
The killer is... While he could see his free lancing wasn't working
and his coaches would tell him to do what you're supposed to. He
still tried it his own way:steamed:
I'm pretty sure that will get you cut.

Brandon Merriweather to Bears

Huh, I guess Bill should have tried a little harder to trade him. He might have really gotten something from him
