OT: Cut Down Day

if the league decides to go to a 17 or 18 game schedule, some sort of farm system would be in order. Maybe play on Tuesday in second tier cities. However, teams would have to share so a playing time arrangement would be needed.

I bet QB play would be helped. Delhomme and Warner were NFL Europe products.

And if it is a "hockey/baseball" type of farm system, we could send a guy like Mallett there for a year or two so he can actually see the field regularly. It would help him learn the system and then, he will be able to back up Brady.

Whose the clown in here who said that Farnham would be here playing a little safety and is much like our new Troy Brown :bricks:

Re: OT: Cut Down Daymajor league

Why?

Playing time isn't the same thing as an expanded roster. (Although an 18 game schedule would bring an expanded roster).

A shared team means that there aren't 32 farm teams with each franchise stocking 40-50 players.

For example, let's say 8 teams with 4 teams each contributing 10-12 players or a combination of stocking and independent players depending on how many teams would be needed.

With NFLN, this would provide content.

Besides, "sellouts" are not the point. It's a question of facilities, overhead and salaries. NFL Europe didn't work because the Europeans are not football fans and knew it was an inferior product. Outside of NFL Europe, I am not aware of any attempt by the league, for this type of initiative.

What do you think Bill would gain by having Mallett playing for some yahoo HC and OC and QB coach who don't grasp let alone teach his system? What good did it do Rohan Davey, who was an NFLE MVP who could not run this team to save his soul and even struggled to run a Rohan package against fellow minor leaguers and future burger flippers every preseason...

I signed up for NFLN when it first became available. I kept it as it's content (the rerunning loop) lagged because they were going to allow me to watch every single pre season game. Know how many I watch??

Who exactly would be teaching him/coaching this system?? Guys who can't make it as a coach here? And that requires the 32 team minor league system. Not worth the effort. LOL

Vinateri too came from NFL Europa!

I have freinds in the UK and they love "American Football" I think the economy right now will not lend itslef to any more leagues popping up. Maybe the NFL could buy the UFL, and make it like NFL Europe where there would be say 8 teams and each team consists of players designated by say four NFL teams (4x8=32, right) yeah four teams, maybe even break them down by divisions, the AFC East team, etc

When will they have the 53 man roster?By the weekend?

Friday at 4PM. But making that 53 doesn't mean a player is in. Some teams will still see a lot of maneuvering at the end of the roster as they make waiver claims or grab a target who cleared waivers probably until Monday when most of them want at least their week 1 roster set. They can start signing players to the PS on Sunday afternoon. Then after week 1 there will be another round of maneuvering as some teams re-sign or sign veteran players to non guaranteed contracts.

The deadline is Saturday by 4pm, but like last year, while the list will be in by 4pm, it will take a while for the general public to find out, so I'd say late Saturday night/Sunday we'll all know who made it onto the 53.

Where did I say Mallett would play in the farm system?

With a 16 game schedule, the number of players going to IR is brutal.

An 18 game schedule, would be more brutal.

Maintaining quality of play means more acceptable players would be needed.

Actually playing tends to help in this endeavor.

Having slots available doesn't mean you are required to send Mallett or any player. Besides, based on your earlier posts, what's difference? it's not like Mallett is Brady's eventual replacement.

Ricky Brown = Gone.

Can't really feel bad about cut down day.... It's part of the game. Besides, it's long term meaning is not really set in stone. Hell, even WW has didn't make the cut before (in SD).

It's not like his career ended that day (thankfully). The margin of talent is pretty small, and one teams trash, could be another teams treasure. Besides, there are probably 3-5 of these players that could be back with us by years end.
