I don't expect any of these players to back healthy and contributing anytime soon. I am prepared to be pleasantly surprised as I was with Ellis and Fletcher.

Of course, it is quite possible that we will give Vareen and/or Dowling a roster spot even though they are not healthy. I just don't see that happening.

PUP
Faulk, Brace, Deaderick, Cannon

IR
Wright, Vareen, Dowling, Wendell, Lockett

Non-Football Reserve List
Spikes

I'm torn on Mike Wright. From a football sense I'd love to see him back, I think he'd be extremely effective in our current rotation. However, I'm not sure it would be in his best interests to return and part of me really thinks he should call it a day. His health is more important and a serious concussion, the like of which he had, do not augur well for the future health of a defensive lineman.

I agree. I felt the same way about Bruschi coming back. However, if Wright were to come back, I would presume that he had been given sufficient medical support to make a reasonable decision for him and his family.

Based on this then, what is your take on Spikes? Are you assuming there is no injury, that he and the patriots are nearing the end of their relationship or something else entirely?

I am in the same boat about Wright. That was a vicious concussion, and his descriptions of the after-effects were chilling.

Jarvis Green, in his interview with Mike Procopio, said that Wright was one of the leaders in the locker room. That was an interesting and telling statement about how much he means to this team.

I hope he can be fully healed and come back and play, but I'd also be fully supportive if he decided to hang up his pads & cleats and err on the side of a future.

Is that official or did you make it up? Sincere question.

The Patriots would not need a lot of snaps from him; give enough to give the regulars a blow. They should either PUP him or cut him and give him an injury settlement.

You know, when I read that, I thought that Jarvis may have misspoken and meant Mike VRABEL. Wright just doesn't go with the rest of those guys.

"When I was a part of the teams that won titles here, we had players like Bruschi, Seymour, Junior, Ty, Mike Wright, and Rodney."

I could be completely wrong, of course.

Why do we think Vereen (that's the correct spelling) and Dowling are hurt enough to go on IR? For all we know, they could be healthy again in the first few weeks of the regular season. The impact they could make, being second round rookies, outweighs the benefit of two more healthy players on the roster for the duration of their injuries (well, if they go on IR, the entire season).

They can't PUP him...

I expect Vareen, Dowling & Spikes on the opening day roster. Agree on the rest of PUP and IR.

spikes inj or not playing is a bit of a downer, but fletcher was playing well... i hope price is only day to day , i cant say how much taylor price is going to shine this year.. brandon tate aka bethal johnson to me .. so if he is cut then oh well...

That's where I'm at too regarding Wright.
