Considering we are still a day away from when a player can be cut and two days away from when a veteran can sign, there sure are a whole lot of "it's official" statements being made by the sports media right now that are obviously anything but that at this point in time.

The more I think about this the more I find it ridiculous to even give a second thought to Holmes being back on the jets. The only reason this is of any concern is because the expectation was that the jets would be a lot worse off this year and instead they are looking closer to status quo. They had Holmes last year and look where it got them. They will still likely lose Edwards so they have still dropped a notch.

We should be more focused on the Patriots and how much better we will be this year in comparison. If you compare the difference between last year's versions of both teams to this year's I think you will find we've made a lot more forward progress.

They have a slew of rookie playmakers - McCourtey, Spikes, Gronk, Hernandez - that will make the biggest leap of their careers in year 2. Not to mention Ty Warren and Leigh Bodden are back.

And the Pats have a lot more young players transitioning from their first to second years and second to third years. Plus the Pats added two defensive starters who got hurt before the season began last year in Ty Warren and Leigh Bodden. These players are generally underrated by the rest of the league. The Jets main loss entering last season was Jenkins, who retired.

Learn to read and understand what the asterisk accommodates. If there's no asterisk next to their name, you should probably assume that the player named is NFL quality already.

The players left off the list were left off the list for a reason. You'll notice a plethora of Patriots left off that list too.
