The Lee Smith conundrum

It's thoughtless statements like this that make you the laughingstock of the forum. Crumpler is arguably the best blocking TE in the NFL. Smith is a 5th round draft pick. Crumpler has been in the NFL for 10 seasons. Smith has never worn an NFL jersey that actually had his name on the back. The post that I just quoted of you is absolutely ridiculous and completely wrong.

you don't win FUTURE championships w/ Crumpler. I do not think we are SB contenders this year. Our D is still not there yet. NEXT year is our time

I really don't give 2 ****s what you think. Crump is GONE after this year. Have Fore-sight look to the future more than than this next season. It seems you are the "idiot" and "laughingstock" who only cares about this 1 year versus he FUTURE. I hope we keep BOTH if not---- Crump goes.

There is a very good chance that, from today onward, Crump will have a more distinguished career as a blocking tight end than Lee Smith will. Just because Smith is young and big doesn't mean that he'll make the transition to the pros. He'll come into training camp, get a chance to participate, and get a chance to win the role there. He probably won't, since rookies are so far behind the curve right now, so he may even get a redshirt season of sorts (I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets cut and ends up on the PS).

But the fact that you're ready to name the guy an NFL starter before he's even stepped on a practice field, over one of the most proven and talented blockers in the NFL, just makes no sense. Restate it as many times as you want, it won't make it true.

BTW, what would possess you to look at a young team that went 14-2 last year while being killed by injuries, that didn't suffer any major personnel losses over the offseason, and say that they're not Super Bowl contenders this year?

we miss a pressure presence on D is tully the answer I don't think so. We did have injuries yes. I hope I am wrong and I hope Lee impresses BB so much he will carry 4 TE's.... kinda like how they kept Brady b/c he impressed and they carried what 4 QB's?

Let's be clear. The effectiveness of our offense depends on Brady. It depemds on our receivers. It depends on having at least an adequate coupple of running back. Our offense depends on continuing to rebuild our OL. The importance of the #3 and #4 TE is way down on the list of critical elements.

Certainly saying that Smith is the key to our future is utter nonsense. To say that Crumpler should be gone because of the great skills of our 5th round blocking TE is a;sp nonesense.

Finally, the idea that a 14-2 team should give up on this year and rebuild for the future makes no sense at all.

The BOTTOM LINE is that Crumpler will stay if he can help this year's team more than Smith. Smith is just another late round draft choice who may or may not make the 53 man squad.

PS or IR Smith and keep Crumpler. This really isn't a tough question let alone a "conundrum."

The Patriots are clearly a top contender for the SB this year and you don't start getting rid of valuable players to keep late round prospects when you are this close.

long snapper is up for grabs........if the pats can be comfortable with him as LS, then his being on the roster is a no-brainer......

regardless, if he shows enough during camp, then the pats will find a way to keep him.

what will potentially work to the pats advantage with him is due to the late nature of the season getting started, you can bet that there will be roster exceptions allowed until mid season to give rookies a fair shake with their original teams.

don't be suprised to see some kind of expanded roster out to week 6 or something

I hope Smith does well enough to stick.....but making it to the PS wouldn't be a bad thing.....Pats have 3 good TE's already.....

Unless he performs in camp like the next Tony Gonzales, he probably won't find room on the final 53.....

I hope he DOES make the final 53, but I'm not looking for it to happen...

Pretty much how i see it. Hopefully he impresses but i wouldn't carry the 4th TE unless he's the LS, and i'm not worried about another team grabbing him off the PS.

As far as the long snapper position goes it would be wise to keep an eye on Denver, now that Fox is taking over and with Elway in complete control they may not put the premium on Paxton that McDaniels did and he may be a victim of the changes at the top, if so i expect him back in NE for next season as Belichik won't hesitate to take him back if he is released.

GET RID OF SLATER

Wow, I guess Lee Smith is a gunner.

Belichik is so stupid, keeping Slater when the draftniks know he sucks. I don't know what he's thinking?

GET RID OF SLATER

Why do you want to get rid of everyone on this roster???? Jeez. First off, Unless Williams is better in TC than Slater, he isn't going to be cut. Apart from Tate and maybe Price, he is the 3rd WR on this team that can run go routes. Heck, since he even plays emergency FS.

As for Williams, he couldn't even get past being the 4th CB on his TCU team. A week ago, I saw the TCU Wisconsin game, and the only time I saw him on the field was during ST duties. Sad when a senior CB doesn't see the field on D snaps esp since TCU plays a standard 4-2-5 formation.

It's one good reason why Solder isn't a coach........

Has Smith been voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame yet, or is that injustice still going on?

3 Guesses who Solder's binky is this year

SPECIAL TEAMS IS USELESS NOW W/ KICKOFFS OUT.

Hmm....you do know that Slater is on the Big 4 units of the ST???
Kick off, Kick return, Punt return, punt.....And all the NFL did was revert back to their old rule that they had changed back in early 2000's. Last time I checked, they had kickoffs back then.
