Gut it out win. Sometimes you gotta get those kind of wins, whatever it takes. Pressure makes even the best QB's look bad. Doesn't matter who u are.

Look no further than brady in SB42.

Tuned in to see what the Falcons offense was capable of and they didn't show a whole lot tonight. The Saints three point win could have been a lot bigger than that if Brees hadn't made a couple of rough mistakes. Fifth seed in the AFC is going to be the third best team in the conference, and the fifth seed in the NFC is the second best at worst. If the Saints go into there and win again in the divisional round than the Falcons were a lot of hot air.

congrats pherin . Championship drive 90 yards ...!

It kinda sucks for the Saints that they need to rely on the worst team in the league to put a second consecutive home loss on the Falcons. In some ways, these Week 17 division match ups haven't amounted to much other than the loser bowl for the NFC West title.

Also really bizarre how the commentators talk about how the Falcons have been under the radar. Whose fault is that? The Philly Vicks are getting as many prime time games as a team is allowed, and Cowboys games were not flexed even though everyone knew they sucked. Don't kiss Vick's ass all season and then wonder why people haven't heard more about a 12 win team.

My conclusion from tonight:

I would be nervous to play either team in Dallas.

The Saints know how to win football games; I believe Payton-Brees is the only combo that can hold a candle to Belichick-Brady. Scary to think that the Saints won despite two fourth quarter INTs, including one that will not be made again. My one criticism of Brees is he seems to gamble too much. Hence the 21 INTs; even last week, the "highlight" TD pass against Baltimore was actually a bad decision, and Brees seems to throw a lot of jump balls. That said, he is deadly accurate and obviously capable of playing at anyone's level.

The Falcons were not that impressive tonight stacked up against the Saints, but they are still pretty heavy favorites to win the NFC with that homefield advantage. I believe their secondary is athletic enough to give the Patriots some big problems. I think Matt Ryan is a terrific young QB, but I've seen a few games this year, and he looks like a terrific third-year QB, but definitely not an elite player like Brady/Brees/Rivers. He's a guy that can kill you if given the right situation, but he's not someone who will win throwing 40 passes.

All in all, an enjoyable game to watch, although the seeding implications are negligible. In my opinion, the Saints pose the biggest threat to the Patriots because Sean Payton is the only coach in BB's class. Not to mention that smack down they handed us last year.

Thanks, this means something to us. They were quite rude. We need to get better if we can face you. ITs funny, I was posting exactly this on the Vikings forum last year. WE need to do better at OL, but I think the D played very well.
Thanks

Thanks West Philly Patriot, nice of you to say
Its a hard win, we need to do better. But thanks. Were not to used to success with our football teams, I think the media is a little behind on that. Our OL looked pretty bad, but thats pretty normal down here. I think Brees really saved the day, but also cost us, but what was he to do with our OL folding like that. Ya but,Brady is beyond Brees: ) we know that, were not silly like that. What Brady can deal with and what Brees can deal with are completely different animals.

We believe no one is watching our D, might help us.

i remember the ATL Dline troubled brady too in the preseason FWIW.Biermann had a couple of good hits on brady.

Brees showed why he's one of the best in the game last night. After throwing 2 picks with questionable decisions (the first one just stupid) he marches them down 90 yards to the win. Great job.

The Saints defense is much improved over last year, which is scary.

Patriots now have THE best record in the NFL, no longer tied with the Falcons.

Happy there's Tuesday night football tonight. Rooting for the Vikings to win and for Vick to have a horrible game. Though neither are likely to happen....

Agreed. They're very dangerous. They also give a lot of hope to me for our D.

We're getting a lot of comparisons to that Saints D last season which wasn't necessarily statistically good, but forced a lot of turnovers. The 2009 Saints finished 20th in points allowed and 25th in yards allowed. But this year's Saints D is top 10 in both categories, closer to top 5 actually. As the unit has gotten used to each other and improved, they solidified into one of the best defenses in the NFL.

A lot of people have been real negative about our D, but it's a new unit coming together. They're resilient and find ways to win games, and struggled early on but have improved. And hopefully next year we can make that next leap to become one of the best defenses in the NFL like the Saints.

We'd be killing Sanchez if that had been the Jets. Brees hurt his team last night. What bailed his ass out is that Ryan was invisible, and the Falcons put the ball on the carpet twice. Hell, McClure of the Falcons was the Saints MVP.

Congrats to pherein and the Saints; good luck in the playoffs.

Speaking of drew Brees and his Favre impersonation, the old gunslinger is out for tonight's game against the Eagles. Looks like his NFL career ends with a quiet whimper rather than a blaze of glory. Seems like for every Jim Brown, Barry Sanders or John Elway that leaves at the right time, there are dozens of examples like Favre the Viking, John Unitas the Charger, Joe Namath the Ram, Reggie White the Panther, Franco Harris the Seahawk, or Larry Csonka the Giant.

Back to Saints for a moment: earlier in their history they were the team that great NFL players ended their career, but wish they hadn't. Ken Stabler, Earl Campbell and Jim Taylor all finished their careers in New Orleans.

...Earl Campbell...

Along with Barry Sanders, one of my two favorite running backs to watch. Bo Jackson would come in at #3, FWIW.

A little Earl Campbell trivia:

I was at the Chuck Fairbanks farewell playoff game. After a postgame tailgate had some auto problems. This was of course long before the days of cell phones. First went further down the parking lot looking for a pay phone; that was where the racetrack was and because it was a racetrack they had no pay phones there - I think it was a state law to discourage illegal gambling, bookies from placing bets, etc.

Went back up towards the stadium, wandered around there. Was somewhere inside that was not locked and Campbell was there chatting with a couple of people and signing autographs. He was wearing what appeared to be a very expensive full length fur coat. I asked him if he knew where any pay phones were, he said 'I don't know', and it dawned on me who he was - so I said 'by the way, great game today and good luck next week'. He stopped and looked at me and said 'thanks, I really appreciate that'.

He took a few steps down the hall and turned and asked why I needed a phone and I told him; he said 'here, follow me', took me back to their locker room and led me to a phone inside there to use.

Real nice guy and very soft spoken - the exact opposite of his style of play. It was amazing the hits he would deliver to would-be tacklers back when he played.
