I don't follow this. I would think that a return earlier than is required to earn his accrued year would indicate exactly the opposite?

I would think that if he had the team's best interest at heart he would have shown up at the beginning of he year. But I suppose it is better than waiting until the last possible second.

I was never a fan of Mankins holding out, but I'm happy he's back. We're BETTER having a Pro Bowl-caliber Left Guard. PERIOD.

BINGO! patsox got bingo!

Remembering Logan Mankins:

*Has never missed an NFL game, starting all 80 regular-season games and nine postseason game since joining the Patriots in 2005.
*Named to the Pro Bowl in 2007 and 2009.

*Was selected to the Associated Press All-Pro Second Team in 2007 and 2009.
*The Patriots' offense has finished in the top 10 in four of his five seasons: 2005 (7), 2007 (1), 2008 (5), 2009 (3).

*In 2008, Mankins started every game at left tackle as part of an offensive line that was a part of the best rushing season for the Patriots in more than 20 years in terms of rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and average yards per carry.
*Mankins and John Hannah are the only Patriots guards to earn Pro Bowl bids since the 1970 AFL-NFL Merger.

*Mankins scored a touchdown in the 2006 AFC Championship Game at Indianapolis when he recovered a Tom Brady fumble in the end zone to give the Patriots a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

*Mankins is the first Patriots guard to start every game as a rookie since Hall of Famer John Hannah did it in 1973.
*Mankins was named to Pro Football Weekly's All-Rookie Team in 2005.

*In 2005, Mankins became the first Patriots rookie to start every game since Damien Woody did it in 1999.
Logan Mankins - Official New England Patriots Biography

:bricks:

With regard to the discussion as to who gets cut, I believe that the Patriots will be able to ask for a roster exception for a few weeks so that Logan can practice and nobody will have to be cut, at least until he is ready to play.

I would expect this to happen also.

This is excellent news. Mankins instantaneously improves an offensive line that has been allowing a TON of pressure up the gut in the last two games. It seemed that almost every time the Vikings blitzed up the A and B gaps that Brady was on the run. I don't think he'll start right away, as he'll have to get into game shape, but it's just a matter of time. Hopefully he can play himself into a new contract before next season.

Breaking News ---- This just in. In an effort not to have the disaster that the Vikings had with Moss, Bill Belichick is allowing Logan Mankins to pick what place is providing takeout for all of the lunches for the rest of the season.

Does this improve our line a good deal? Really tired of seeing Brady on the run.

Look at the timing.
Fall crop harvest in. Check.
Pats on a roll. Check.
Light's matador cape somewhat frayed. Check.

Perfect timing for a return.

Wasn't Mankins the OG in '08 when B Pollard came up the middle? Mankins was the Lt guard during the years when TB was one of the most hit and sacked QB's in the league. TB did Plenty of running with Mankins at guard. I don't think Mankins will improve the line play as much as some others here do, but i could be wrong.

Plus he is rusty, so we are looking at the draft then I would assume for improvement.

Mankins should be prime by late November:rocker: and down the road we'll need the depth. He'll come in nice and fresh, he'll get his game back on, he'll contribute like he always has, and will be an absolute beast by January

Call me crazy but I see NO bench is Logan's future And the OL? They probably had a small party. Perhaps a catered one

Think about last year and how many times TB was hurried knocked down or sacked. It seems like there are a lot of people that think the pats O-line would be like the Great wall of China with LM back. The last few years it wasn't that great. And BB may not even play him, why would he disrupt the chemistry the line has developed by automatically inserting LM.

Classy things said by BB in the presser regarding Mankins.

The Patriots announced today that offensive lineman Logan Mankins has reported to the team.

Coach Bill Belichick said Tuesday on a conference call that while the official transaction of Mankins' signing has yet to be filed with the NFL, he expects the team to receive a roster exemption.

"Logan came in, I met with him this morning, and it's good to have him back on the team," Belichick said. "He's been a great player and person for our football team. He's tough. He's smart. You just can't have too many guys like that on your football team. We're glad he's back."

Yea but that was with a banged up Edelman, no clear number 2 WR, no good TEs and Brady dealing with one dimensional options. I would say it is much worse considering the added depth, we should do like Indy did last night and get the ball off quickly, MW was on his ass and he didn't get sacked I believe, had a nice pct and no INTs with a banged up lineup.

I think its an issue though, half of Brady's picks are due to pressure (Carr from BAL for instance.) His % could be near 70 if he didn't have to waste downs by avoiding the pressure.

How much of it do you place on the receivers though? They sometimes struggle to release compared to Indy's guys for example.

1.) Pollard came through on a blitz, and he went to the right side of the offensive line. His getting through had nothing to do with Mankins.

2.) Mankins was drafted in 2005. Brady has never had more than 26 sacks with Mankins as his LG, meaning he was never higher than 14 on the sack totals list.

3.) Last year, coming back from the injury, Brady was sacked only 16 times all season. This year, he's already been sacked 12 times, putting him on pace for 27 sacks, which would be higher than any year with Mankins on the line.

Re: Logan Mankins signs tender

If you want to be a Mankins apologist that's fine, but I still maintain that a guy who leaves his team hanging hurts the team more than the guy who shows up to camp and doesn't miss a single practice or game due to holding out. He may not have been under contract but he was still bound by the CBA and the CBA says the Patriots have his exclusive rights for the 2010 season.

I don't care who the player in question was. I have always strongly felt that people should honor their contracts; I have never sided with a player during a holdout when under contract.

Likewise, I strongly feel that people not under contract are allowed to do whatever they like and expectations of fans (like you) that the player has some sort of obligation to the team during a time when they are not under contract and negotiating are misplaced.

Your mileage may vary.

Perhaps I am remembering incorrectly, but I seem to recall that Sammy Morris' crappy blitz pickup led to Pollard's hit on Brady, and that the blitzing safety was the responsibility of the blocking back on that play.
