Would you trade Mankins to Chicago for Tommy Harris and a 4th?

Ahhh ok you think Mankins is going to play for us this year. Understood. Are we sure it's Belichick going down the meth path?

How can the Patriots trade Mankins to Chicago, if Mankins did not sign the tender?

Can someone explain this process, assuming a trade like this is possible?

Come on man you know what I mean. I do not expect BB to put him in when he shows up. I could be wrong but thats my opinion. fwiw

So you think BB would be so spiteful as to risk his team by putting in Ohrnberger instead of Mankins?

P.S. Sorry, but I've always hated the "we" stuff. We're fans, they're the team.

What if they tried to sign him for LG money but he refused. IF that happened did we still screw the pooch?

They could have signed him last year, but told him to hold off. They could have signed him at the very beginning of the offseason. Evans didn't sign until May 5th. Had they signed him before that, he'd have had lower salary figures to deal with. They had him in for talks not that long ago, where he reportedly even apologized to Kraft, but they couldn't get him signed.

Yes, the Patriots screwed the pooch. The questions are "how badly?" and "can the problem be fixed?".

My point was that since he can not control those conditions he wouldn't be the one driving.

The Patriots were the one with the leverage (driver's seat) before they slapped the tender on him and then lowered it. Since that day, the one with the leverage (driver's seat) has been Mankins.

The team will not have officially screwed the pooch until the trade line passes. At that point, you and I will continue to question FO decisions in this matter. The team had options after telling Mankins whatever they did in 2009.

1) Pay the man for one year (no franchise in 2011)
2) Pay the man what he wanted for a long-term deal.
3) Allow his agent to negotiate and deal and bring it back to the team before the draft for specified 2010 or 2011 compensation.
4) Repeat step 2 at least a couple of times.
5) Discuss Mankins with other team and allow a team to bring back a deal to Mankins.
6) Tell Mankins to go screw and hope for a 2012 draft choice in return, and also have the possbiility that Mankins might decide to come to practice and play some in 2010.

Apparently, the team chose Option 6 expecting Mankins to fold and come back, or just no caring whether he did or not. After all, the team showed Mankins! We won the battle and likely lost a 2nd round draft choice. And the patriots are the BEST at running a business!

I was listening to Sirius NFL Radio earlier this week, and they were observing that Harris is a shell of his former self, and that he was a detriment and no longer an asset. They were ripping his play as horrible.

And how is trading a top shelf player for a guy who can't keep his job in the 4-3 and a 4th not nonsense?

You figure Belichick has started down the Meth path or something?

You mean an "on the shelf" player.

He can't do anything for the Patriots from his living room.

In the meantime, I think the Pats can do better in a trade for something else than what shefter is talking about..

The #1 OL in the NFL says hi:

Cold, Hard Football Facts.com: 2010 Offensive Hog Index

Yeah, the Pats "screwed the pooch" and their OL is just dying without backing up a brinks truck for their savior of a LG.

The Patriots need Mankins right now like Belichick needs a third nipple.

I'm not sure why different websites use different sets of data to determine who the top offensive line is. I've also seen us ranked as the #15 O-Line in the NFL.

By whom?

ColdHardFootballfacts is pretty good in most peoples' books.

There's no indication that this ranking is based on crunching numbers. As far as I can tell, it looks to be just the opinion of the author.

It has to come from somewhere. Unfortunately, Pete Prisco is the author. So one can see why the article would be incomplete with references to where he actually got the data from. But, regardless, this is only one of a few different O-Line rankings that I've seen with us in different spots. Hence the confusion in my first post.

dont underestimate the power of a third nipple!

Even 007 pretended to have one!
