I bet you're expecting Peyton hatred...not exactly. Yes, he was overhyped in 2003-2006 when the Pats were dominant and he (at that point had no SBs to his name)...but he's a great all-time QB no matter how annoying you might find him (which I do.)

This is mainly directed at 2 athletes...Lebron James and Derek Jeter.

Lebron James...self-explanatory...self-professed "King" (not to mention it was his idea to do "the decision" on TV)...but I hated him even before this summer. Never has a player garnered so much hype while doing absolutely nothing. Sure, he can get to the basket quickly and dunk the ball...but ESPN and the like (not to mention himself) make him sound like a top 5 of all time already, when he's arguably not even a top 2 player in the league or the best player on his new team.

All the sh*t people give Peyton for being annoying and whiny on the field...Peyton strikes me as a decent guy who just isn't a smooth person. Lebron whines to the refs on every single play, not to mention he wants all the glory when he wins, and none of the blame when he loses. He's had capable, championship worthy teams, he just doesn't have the guts to be "the man" he wants people to think he is.

Derek Jeter has been the beneficiary of being on great teams. All the things people say about Brady that are exaggerated or completely false, really do apply to Jeter. He's a complimentary player on the greatest team of the past 15 or so years. His fielding is mediocre at best (then he gets on ESPN highlights for making a routine grounder seem difficult and jumping up and down like a ballerina instead of just planting and throwing to first)...he's a good, solid hitter...but not Wade Boggs/Ichiro good. He's ****y as hell, when really, he'd have 0 rings if he were on any team but the Yankees. Then he occasionally gets a game winning hit and people like Tim McCarver talk about his "calm eyes" and his hips.

At any point in his career, I wouldn't even put Jeter as a top 10 player in the league. A good player, yes? But this mythical legend that people put on him...when he's up at the plate...I don't fear that he'll hit a home run or a solid extra base hit...I fear that he'll get some texas leaguer to right field.

How did Brett Favre not make the list?

obscene phone calls exemption...dummy

He's a football player. This is a football forum. Why would he...

Ian really needs to hire cleaners as opposed to moderators...

I can see the Yankees painting themselves into a corner with his next contract. They have to sign him or it will be a PR disaster and since they have more money than God they'll probably give him 5 years - $100 million, He'll be the slowest .260 hitting shortstop in the league by 2012.

Other than Favre, I think you've covered the worst offenders.

Jeter has the standard NY-athlete exposure bump, but other than that I don't really see him as overhyped. He's a HOFer. Sure, you can find some statistical metrics that say that he's not all that as a fielder, but defensive statistics in baseball are still a work in progress, and it's been a long time since I've heard anyone claim that was exceptional out there anyways.

Do I hate Favre? For some reason, no. I actually have several of his football cards. Do I think he's overhyped and the whole "He's an emotional gunslinger having fun out there" thing is overplayed to death? Of course. Say what you want about the guy (and you'd probably be right) but I don't see him as malicious in the T.O. sense. He loves himself and the camera obviously...but I think the guy just wears his heart on his sleeve for better or worse. ESPN is the problem there more so than Favre.

I suppose all of the "I'm going to kill myself because the Pats traded Moss" threads are better

the big 3 on the yankees are overhyped:

1. jeter - made a career mostly of singles

2. arod - made a career out of steroids

3. texeira - $20 million to a .256 hitter

you can throw in cc sabathia who only does well against average teams like the orioles.

why the **** is this still here, move this garbage to the Sox forum or the practice squad.

I happen to really enjoy those threads...love watching car wrecks

yet they will win it all again so keep crying

why are they going to win it again? they have to probably face TB, a team that has the home field over them and beat them 10 out of 18 times in the regular season. Then, if they get to the WS, they have to face Roy Halladay and Co. along with the rest of the phillies, the best team in MLB.

Cliff lee is going for texas in game five so you can most likely gtfo with the rays talk. As for the Phills, the pitching staff is nothing special except for Halladay and Its not like the Yankees have never seen doc before. The Yankees have the deepest rotation left and its not like they don't have the bats.

Tough crowd!

Any prima-dona WR that has thought more of himself than the team for the last 20 years.

Ok got it you're a Red Sox fan and don't like the Yankees- big surprise there.
On the other hand you like the Manning and Farve- great. What's next a thread stating that you like cookies? This thread really does suck.

Pretty much, this. Sucks, but the Yanks are going to win it all. In the MLB, at least, money can buy you championships. All the more reason to like the NFL.
