I bet you're expecting Peyton hatred...not exactly. Yes, he was overhyped in 2003-2006 when the Pats were dominant and he (at that point had no SBs to his name)...but he's a great all-time QB no matter how annoying you might find him (which I do.)
This is mainly directed at 2 athletes...Lebron James and Derek Jeter.
Lebron James...self-explanatory...self-professed "King" (not to mention it was his idea to do "the decision" on TV)...but I hated him even before this summer. Never has a player garnered so much hype while doing absolutely nothing. Sure, he can get to the basket quickly and dunk the ball...but ESPN and the like (not to mention himself) make him sound like a top 5 of all time already, when he's arguably not even a top 2 player in the league or the best player on his new team.
All the sh*t people give Peyton for being annoying and whiny on the field...Peyton strikes me as a decent guy who just isn't a smooth person. Lebron whines to the refs on every single play, not to mention he wants all the glory when he wins, and none of the blame when he loses. He's had capable, championship worthy teams, he just doesn't have the guts to be "the man" he wants people to think he is.
Derek Jeter has been the beneficiary of being on great teams. All the things people say about Brady that are exaggerated or completely false, really do apply to Jeter. He's a complimentary player on the greatest team of the past 15 or so years. His fielding is mediocre at best (then he gets on ESPN highlights for making a routine grounder seem difficult and jumping up and down like a ballerina instead of just planting and throwing to first)...he's a good, solid hitter...but not Wade Boggs/Ichiro good. He's ****y as hell, when really, he'd have 0 rings if he were on any team but the Yankees. Then he occasionally gets a game winning hit and people like Tim McCarver talk about his "calm eyes" and his hips.
At any point in his career, I wouldn't even put Jeter as a top 10 player in the league. A good player, yes? But this mythical legend that people put on him...when he's up at the plate...I don't fear that he'll hit a home run or a solid extra base hit...I fear that he'll get some texas leaguer to right field.
