In 2007, we traded a 2nd and a 7th round pick to get Welker.
We also got Moss with a 4th the same year.

We now have 2 picks in each of the first 4 rounds of next years draft.

I am sure we will probably trade a 3rd for a 2nd in 2012, or a 4th for a
3rd in 2012.

I do hope we trade a couple picks for proven players prior to next years
draft.

I just do not want to see another 5'9' DB taken in the 2nd or 3rd round.
I still have nightmares of.....

I don't share your nightmares with regard to picks; some work out, some don't, but unless they are top 10 they are cheap. Having said that I expect some trades with these picks, depending on the lock-out. If not, we will see more seconds for firsts the following year type deals, or if the new deal includes limiting the cost of high 1sts a blockbuster deal to use the Faider pick to deal up for the player that Bill really wants ( my guess a DL) .

The 2007 draft class was exceedingly bad. Once you got outside the top 15, productive players were few and far between. Belichick called that draft perfectly by not wanting to touch it with a 100 ft pole.

If the expected juniors declare, the 2011 draft should go 2 rounds deep with top notch talent...making the 4 picks the Pats have pretty much gold. However, the expected dropoff in value after that point is extreme. It will be interesting to see how Belichick is planning to use the 4 picks in the 3rd/4th rounds. While you might be able to trade for vet help using those picks, it might be better to use them to ensure you get your targets in the first 2 rounds (Quinn, Crick, Baldwin, etc). If you pool those 4 picks, it equates to around a mid-2nd. While that isn't enough to significantly move up the Oakland pick (I'm hoping it will be high enough on its own), it is more than enough to move the Pats' own picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds up quite a bit.
