The BJGE haters only allow stats when it supports their argument.

I don't know if he'll make the final 53, but I do like watching him give it his all.

He needs to become a better receiver/blocker/ special teamer, because he's not a starter. However, I'd much rather have him available in case of injury than scramble for castoffs. There's always something wrong with them for some reason.

Patrick Pass always contributed where needed, though he gets slammed for one bad play. Look at the waste we've gone through when we didn't have a backup.

It's going to be a hard team to make. If he's improved his versatility, he should be able to bump Morris, but i don't think he's close, unfortunately.

ups - wheatley, murrell, connelly, spikes, chung, chris taylor
down - wilhite, mcgowan, sanders, ninkovitch, pryor, pierre woods, some of the OL backups

Why do you think BJGE was given 20+ carries tonight?

Gronk lined up next to Vollmer pushed the Saints defender back 8 yards on BJGE's TD run...just as impressive the second time I saw it

Yeah it was, now I'm waiting for Maroney's...

Having more development and/or ability at skills like blocking and special teams would help his chances of sticking around for year 3 immensely. His biggest asset(s) other than that he seems to give it his all, is that he's young and doesn't seem to be injury prone.

If we had 2 or 3 good backs who were 28 and under, this wouldn't be so important, but we don't. Only Maroney is under 30 and he has a history of injuries. If he makes the 53, he'll be #52 or 53, but you never know.

Gronk had another mashing block when the 2nd unit came on with Hoyer that opened Randy Cross's eyes...I expect a helluva lot more out of him NOW after seeing how he matches up against NFL talent...in the open field after a short pass?...looks like it gonna take gang tackling to get him down...

Apparently Fletcher is in the up category seeing how he replaced Mayo with the team's second unit. That can't be good for Williams and Tyrone.
McKenzue was also in wth the 2nd unit

I don't think it's really a judgment of the guy, just noting those who didn't play as well as they should have.

And he is a borderline guy, playing badly could do lots of harm to his chances of making the PS let alone the final 53.

Larsen had practice squad written all over him when he was selected.

he was a center who now has to learn to make reads and play guard so he has value beyond being a center.

Just curious ... after all we have learned about Belichick.

Do people here really think players make and don't make the team based on pre season games?

Whose up and who is down ... based on what?

Sorry ... but threads like this are inane.

So you're saying all of the players can come out and suck, and it has no bearing on BB's decisions?

I think BB uses every bit of info he can use when making roster decisions. Why wouldn't he?

Fernando Bryant wishes you were right.

I would agree, except there are always runners out there that might have a little more upside. It's not like Maroney has inspired a lot of confidence, which isn't a knock but he's been injured and struggled with his approach at times. If they draft or find a couple hot shots, law firm could just be last year's model. of course injuries help his chances in the short run, but I wouldn't feel secure.

Pass officially has an 8 year NFL career as a 7th rounder and that's more than most running backs.

In the game I watched, Wilhite hurt his chances of making the team, Wheatley helped his and Arrington needed someone to explain the difference between "hit" and "tackle" to him.

But that's just a one-time run through during live action.

Agreed, I thought Wilhite had two excellent plays... and a lot of bad ones. Wheatley impressed the hell out of me though; I had him being cut, but another game like that and I dunno.

Umm that receiver and punt returner that went wild out there tonight...that wasn't Greg Lewis and it wasn't Joey Galloway.

Considering Edelman never caught a pass before last preseason, either he won the job then, or BB called the psychic network and asked if he should cut two NFL veterans and assume the backup QB could play receiver.:bricks:

I agree. But he's somehow managed to stay on the roster for two years now, so BB must see something he likes. BJGE seems to try his best, and his best has been good enough to stick around so far. I'm all for the Pats picking up someone better or drafting someone early on (round 1 or 2 next year).

I've gone from loving Spikes a year ago to being a little concerned about his mobility/range earlier this year and then back to loving him. He's just what this team needed at LB and I'm glad we have him.

Up: Spikes, Chung, Wilhite, G.Warren, Vollmer, Edelman, Wheatley, Gronk, Neal, Murrell

Down: Pryor, Wright, Mayo

I didn't think Mayo looked that good tonight. He seemed to over run and lose contain on a few plays and also got eaten up by blocks.

I'd try to get versatile were i him. If the two oldies start to fade and maroney looks solids, sure there's a short yardage back up job. If they look for young RBs, he's not really a hig upside guy. Up to him.

Believe me, Kevin Faulk was as good as gone about 7-8? years ago. He worked on his fumbling and every part of his game and now we think of him as indispensable. He was almost last years model.

That's right ... every bit of info and tonight was perhaps 5% of that ... at best.

These players are evaluated in practice and by their work habits.

Bill knows what they can do and what they can't.

Who's up and who's down based on this game is inane ... I stand by that.

Bill could have selected this team before tonight's game and except for injury he would be 99.9% correct if he compared it to who makes the 53 before the season starts.
