The Jets suck (merged)

A horrid rookie that showed no signs of being the godsend that Jest fans make him out to be.

Exactly. At this time last year, we were being lectured about how Sanchez was going to light it up. He sure did light it up, alright. He lit up the opposing defense's stat sheet like there was no tomorrow.

Go re-watch his Playoff games please.

watched them...he disappeared in crunch time against the Colts...you think he's special because YOU are a special ed Rat fan..that game was a no contest from a team that never should have been there in the first place...BTW ignoramus, the SD FG kicker makes even ONE of those gimme's and the Rats go away losers in a game they definitely should have lost. Please goo gee gaa your green idiocies somewhere else.

One of the great things about the NFL is that almost every game is of importance. The very first game of the season, vs. the Texans, could have spelled disaster for Sanchez and the Jets. Sanchez could easily have been picked 4-5 times in the game. However, the Texans couldn't make some ridiculously easy defensive plays that would have completely changed that game. That one game was the difference in determining which of those two teams made the playoffs.

It was his very first NFL game! Sheesh...talk about a harsh critic. There have been tons of NFL games with veteran QB's throwing 'coulda been interceptions'. You let your hate for the Jets cloud your objectivity. I can be fair and objective about the Patriots.

haha

Namath won the biggest game in NFL history and he's overrated.

He also played in a completely different era, so it's hard comparing him to the QBs of today by means of statistics.
You can compare W-L from most eras, and you can compare Namath to his contempories. And it makes him look slightly better than average.

He had hype going for him. He was charismatic and he guaranteed a win and the Jets won. That's what got him into the HoF, not his play. Did he even have a winning season after SBIII?

Not to take anything away from SBIII. It was terrific, and Namath played a good game.

But he was special the way Sanchez seems to be special. Superficially flamboyant. Works in NYC, but it wouldn't fly in Boston or Pittsburgh or Baltimore/Indianapolis.

to EIFMP: Your sig has Sanchez' 2010 stats? That is too lame for words. What is wrong with you?

YOU only talk negatively about him because he's a Jet, a team which you hate. Therefore, how can any Jets fan expect you to be even the slightest bit objective?

We can talk about woulda, coulda, shoulda... but it doesn't progress the debate in any way, shape, or form.

Tom Brady sucked in the playoffs last season. Simply put, he had a bad game. So if it can happen to a future hall of famer...it can be reasonably allowed that Mark Sanchez will not be great all the time (obviously).

Your hate & disdain for the Jets and Jets' fans prevents you from being objective. Any other rookie QB playing that well in the playoffs would get high praise. Joe flacco, in both his first and second seasons, wished he played as well in the playoffs as Sanchez did. Big Ben as a rookie in his first playoff season... wished he played as well as Sanchez did as a rookie in the playoffs.

We all know/have seen some all time great QB's throw up some stinkers and have terrible terrible games. But I guess Sanchez isn't allowed to go through growing pains right?

Let me know when you guys can be objective...then maybe we can discuss some football.

What's wrong with me is that I come to Patriotland looking for objectivity about the Jets in a 'The Jets Suck' thread.

No one want's to talk football...they only want to insult other people/teams/players and win arguments.

I'm out!

You got the first part right jackass....then the usual Jest idiocy comes through. Really? we want to insult the Jests in this thread?!?

bravo kiddo.

It was his very first NFL game!

Exactly. Hence the part about every game's importance. Had the Texans not worn their butter gloves, that game could well have gone in a completely different direction, and the "feel good" playoffs would never have happened for the Jets.

I can be fair and objective about the Jets, too. You, however, seem to have missed the point of both my post and this thread.

let's bottom line this for jet fan. sanchez is the the right handed , limp-wristed version of matt leinart with less moxie and a sesame street playbook.

name me the last successful usc qb.

cassel ?

and the beat goes on ...

if ignorance is bliss, jet fan is a blister.

Not that this really needed a new thread so I will add it to the Jets sucks thread, but it looks like Cromartie might be damaged goods:

While talking to Thurman, he mentioned that Cromartie was rested for a few reps in minicamp because of a sore hamstring and “somewhat of a hip issue.” That’s interesting because Cromartie played the entire 2008 season with a fractured hip. No one knew it at the time, but he made the revelation shortly after the season ended. He said it happened in the opener.

Could that be a reason why he wasn’t as productive in 2008 and 2009? Will it be a factor this year? It bears watching.

Personally, I always thought the Cromartie move was way overrated. Granted this article is pure speculation and may not be remotely close to the truth.

Says you.

It was easily one of the best performances by a rookie QB in the playoffs ever. Possibly THE best. I'll have to look that up.

That's because he rarely threw and when he did, the defenses were expecting run. Credit the Jets for adopting the strategy that they would run, run, run, and then run some more and only use Sanchez's arm very sparingly.

We saw in the second half of the Conference Championships that when the Jets are down and they need to rely on Sanchez to air out the ball, they are doomed. In the second half of that game, he completed 11 of 20 passes for zero TDs and one INT. In their drives, they had one missed field goal, an Interception, three punts, and ran out of time on the Colts 37 yard line.

There is plenty of proof that Sanchez is incapable of being the focal point of the Jets offense. That doesn't mean he won't progress even as soon as this season, but the Mark Sanchez of last year (even in the playoffs) was at his best a game manager that you couldn't trust to lead drives with his arm and was best suited to hand the ball off 35 times a game and only throw 15-19 times.

No ****. He's a hall of famer, Sanchez was a rookie. :bricks:

Speaking of that Hall of Famer, I had the misfortune of watching Namath's 1st NFL game, a pre-season game in Lowell MA. He destroyed the Patriots. Bastid.

That doesn't make it good. Because your team got gifted a playoff spot in spite of your awful rookie QB and because you won a couple of games in the playoffs with minimal contribution from the QB doesn't mean that QB played well. Perhaps you should be touting the other 52 players(and the Colts of course) for giving your rookie QB a chance to even have statistics in the playoffs rather than thinking because they exist they are good.

So Sanchez played poorly in the playoffs? We've already been through the gifted playoff spot, and I'll agree with that.

Perhaps you should re-check how your QB performed.

If you go by passer rating, Sanchez's playoff performance against Cincinnati was the best since 1960 (as far back as pro-football-reference will go on the filter). Staubach had a higher rating but he only threw 5 passes. Personally, I'd say Sanchez played decent in the playoffs. Nothing out of this world, but not terrible either. He made some plays and helped his team to 2 upset wins. He had a great running game and defense helping him out big time though, and didn't have to throw much. His largest number of attempts in the playoffs was 30, and the Jets lost that game. He was pretty bad in the regular season, so Jets fans better hope his postseason play carries over.

He had one good game, one bad game, and one mixed. Couple that with his poor showing in the regular showing and that one good game looks more like an exception then a rule. Of course, Jets fans are going to want to say that the one good game was a turning point but that doesn't make it true. Overall, his first year was awful. Sure there was a bright spot at the end, but there were similar bright spots throughout the season. That doesn't mean it will be turned around.

Brady's postseason QB rating is far superior, despite that one awful game. Every QB has a bad game once in a while. I think you knew that was BS as soon as you said it.

Sanchez only threw 10 more times in the Cinci game than Staubach did when he threw 5 times. Sanchez did only complete 12 passes for 182 yards and 1 TD in that game.

Yes, he made the most of his opportunities, but the Jets smartly didn't give him many opportunities. The Jets ran the ball 41 times and passed only 15 times. They lulled the Bengals into putting 8 and 9 in the box on virtually every play which allowed Sanchez to not be pressured very often and his receivers to be mostly single covered.
