Would you agree or disagree with trading a second this year for another first next year, keeping in mind that its very likely 1sts in 2011 will be very helpful to the cap, and that 2011 may never happen if their is a lockout?
I can see both arguments, and while I love the idea of stockpiling 1s for the new expected rookie pool, I think I'd rather keep the pick and/or use it to move around this year.

Considering we have 3 2nd round picks I would go ahead and deal one for a 1st next year. From what I have read on here is that next years draft class isn't deep outside of the 1st round.

Nope, next years draft has been widely described as much inferior to this year's. Some of the "experts" have compared this years second round to next years middle to end of the first round.

If that is the case, you would in essence be trading from one spot this year to a spot of equal value next year while losing a year of playing time. Sort of like trading this years second for next years second. That doesn't make sense.

Golden Tate because I think he grades as a first rounder. Other than that there is noone worth trading up for imo.

We are pretty lucky to be able to be in the position we are in. Still plenty of good players if we stand pat.

Trading back? I hope not. Still plenty of talent on the board. Disagree.

We need players now. No other way to put it. I'd trade next year's first for a second this year before trading for a 2011 pick.

I disagree.. two first round picks are enough. I'd rather have the picks spread across the years so the pipeline flows consistently, because it's either 2 years (for the talent jump) or 4 years (for the system jump). By the time we know if next year's two first round picks can do the system well, Brady will be in the twilight of his career.

Ditto. 10char

Possible people coming out next year:
Julio Jones
A.J. Green
Michael Floyd
Jonathan Baldwin
Patrick Peterson
Cameron Heyward
Greg Romeus
Mark Ingram
Gabe Carimi
Noel Devine
Jeremy Beal
DeMarco Murray

Yeah, I would love to get any 3 of these players.

Nothing more needs to be said.

....Although I will add: which would be worse--having 3 1st round picks in a season that doesn't get played, or only having 2 1st rounders in a year when you can sign them for reasonable money? I thought so.

We'd still have their rights eventually.

I'd be open to a time-shifting trade, depending on which 2nd it was and how good the team is likely to be next year.

OTOH, to play Devil's advocate for a moment—would you rather get the player now and have to sign him to a four-year deal, or wait until next year and get him for possibly* five years?

*The new CBA might limit contracts even for first-round players to four years; the NFLPA had originally suggested that all rookie contracts be limited to three years in exchange for a rookie wage scale.

Yes, I would do it in a heartbeat.
