Alex Carrington turns in solid workout | National Football Post - add a Rumored Interest to the list

With the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens' defensive line coaches looking on, Arkansas State defensive end Alex Carrington made a solid showing at his Pro Day workout.

According to NFL.com, the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder ran a 4.93 with the wind and 4.97 against the wind in the 40-yard dash.

He also posted a 33-inch vertical leap, a 10-2 broad jump, a 4.81 in the short shuttle and a 7.64 in the three-cone drill

...

Carrington reportedly excelled in drills.

...

He's projected as a second round or third round target by draft analysts.

We're told that Carrington has drawn interest from the New England Patriots.

I've been wondering about him missing from the prospects list. He's too good a player to not show interest in -- especially when he's ranked in an area of the Pats 4 picks.

Re: Updated: 4/12/2010 (149 total prospects)

Is there any knowledge of the Patriots having interest in Toby Gerhart?

I haven't heard anything, no interviews, no pro day attendance, no private workouts, no visit.

Do you really think Belichick is not interested in this guy? I think he'd make a VERY solid pick at #53.

There's no question they'll have interviewed him at the Combine, and we were at Stanford's Pro-Day, but we can only list what we hear about.

Until it's confirmed, sadly we can't add him to the list. Don't be too disheartened though, this time last year there was barely a mention of Darius Butler, other than draftniks mocking him to us and the Pats apparently loving him at his Pro-Day - even though there was no mention we paid any particular attention to him at the event. We seemed more interested in Cody Brown and the QB they had, aaaargh, forgot his name. Lorenzen is it?

I figure three sources is better than one.
I edited Box's list to give me an idea of where the visitors might be drafted. We
have six(6) first rounders, eight(8) second rounders, four(4) third rounders, one
(1) or two(2) fourth rounders, tree(3) fifth rounders, and a UDFA. These third
rounders would probably be targeted by us in the second.

Trends: Five of the six first rounders have a body doubles draftable in the second
round.

Dez Bryant-->Arrelious Benn
Brandon Graham-->Jerry Hughes-->Wooton
Dan Williams-->Brian Price-->Alualu
Ryan Mathews-->Montario Hardesty
Kyle Wilson-->Dominique Franks
M. Pouncey-->???

Then we have:
Ty Alualu-->Arthur Jones
Hardesty-->Charles Scott
Benn-->Decker
Franks-->Coleman
Wooton-->Te'0-Nesheim
Butler-->Chaney

The guys that don't fit the trend are Tebow and Pouncey. Maybe because they are

more unique.

Some draft scenarios would go like this:

22. Ryan Mathews
44. Jerry Hughes
47.Arrelious Benn
53. Dominique Franks
119. Arthur Jones

22. Dez Bryant
44. Ty Alualu
47. Montario Hardesty
53. Dominique Franks
119. Daniel Te'o-Nesheim

22. Kyle Wilson
44. Brian Price
47. Corey Wooton
53. Arrelious Benn
119. Charles Scott

I think this is their strategy; target specific players at specific spots and fill needs with value. Keep in mind there are eight more players that are not on this list yet.

GREAT post all the way through. Out of the three scenarios you presented, this is by far my favorite. I like each player except for Fanks. I'd prefer to trade back and either acquire a 1st or 2nd next year, or a couple 3rd this year. If we insist on going secondary with that pick, there are other players I prefer, although they may not be on the Patriots radar. Otherwise we should probably continue to bolster the lines, whether offensive or defensive. Perhaps a TE? Etc. I think secondary is the least of our worries, and would rather take a developmental player later on. We have our starters set for the next few years, thankfully.

I think this is their strategy; target specific players at specific spots and fill needs with value. Keep in mind there are eight more players that are not on this list yet.

Interesting post. I've been thinking in the same mindset, as far as their strategy goes.

A few things though. First, unfortuantely, I don't think Hughes is going to last into the 2nd round. Green Bay, Arizona, and New York Jets all are teams very interested in him and very much in need of pass rush help. Unless we take him at #22, I think we're going to need to trade up from #44.

The reason I'm saying this is that I just don't see the Patriots waiting to fill the OLB/pass rusher need beyond their 2nd pick.

We also can pretty much guarantee atleast one trade by BB, if not two, in the first two rounds.

BUT, if we didn't trade, and Hughes did slide (there certainly is a good chance he does, I just know that after Kindle and Graham are off the board, Hughes will be the next pass rusher to go) this would be my draft.

22. Ryan Mathews
44. Jerry Hughes
47. Tyson Alualu
53. Damian Williams/Brandon Lafell/Andre Roberts/Eric Decker
119. Dennis Pitta

Only because we missed these tidbits that were published back on 3/31/09: UConn Huskies Football News Blog - Desmond Conner - Hartford Courant

Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who has been hanging out quite a bit today with UConn coach Randy Edsall, whispered a little something in Edsall's ear just a few minutes ago.

Edsall said he asked to see Lorenzen as a safety. And right now, he's working with Darius Butler and Dahna Deleston and Belichick is right on top of the drills they're running, has taken off his coat and everything.
Boy Belichick has really camped out over by the DBs, who have now turned around to play receiver.

If we had known this at the time, most of the board would have inked Butler as a likely pick.

Re: Updated: 4/12/2010 (149 total prospects)

Franks is a similar athlete to Wilson. Close height, weight and speed. Wilson didn't do the agility drills at the combine and Franks didn't do them at his pro day so its hard to compare. Maybe TEs have visited already or will visit. I really don't think we will draft an OL in the 1st or 2nd unless it is Pouncey.

Reamer said,
I like each player except for Fanks.
