Lombardi: The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Boy, what a scumbag!!!

Great post! Although someone here will try to spin this in a negative light.

Actions speak louder than words. When words are directly contradicted by actions, then words become meaningless.

Talk is cheap and the road to hell is, as they say, paved with good intentions. He hasn't been a good teamate when it comes to doing his job to the best of his ability. He caused problems for Shanny before Josh ever arrived on scene. If they felt he could be trusted they'd have extended him in Denver long ago. Trust is earned, not demanded. He appeared intent on playing the poor Brandon card when he testified. The jury wasn't impressed. That's why they convicted the man he consciously chose to mess with of murdering an essentially innocent bystander.

I have the feeling a lot of you are in the 18-25 demographic that hasn't fully grasped the concept of consequence yet. Marshall could have had his deal a couple of seasons ago. Shanny is nothing is not a sucker for talent. He'll even enable them within reason. Ergo the lie detector bs. But Marshall even wore Shannahan's tolerance thin. He pulled disrespectful and disruptive crap on his new HC entering last season. He ended the same way and was benched as a result even though it possibly cost them a playoff spot. That is the kind of talent that is worthless because you can't count on it when you need it most.

First off I am beyond the 18-25 demographic, and have a perfect sense of consequence.

Lets see where to begin. Sure Marshall has a history, but you know what our very own RM has just an impressive rap sheet. Lets see it all started back in high school when he was jailed for 30 days for assault charges, and while serving his sentence he received another 60 days for testing positve for marijuana. Then in 1996 he was charged with domestic battery on the mother of his 2 children, those charges were eventually pled down as most are. Then in 2002 there was the infamous nudging of the female traffic cop with his car in minneapolis, oops and he had weed in his car then as well.

Now lets get into the "now that's the talent you can't rely on" stuff shall we? When with the Raiders he walked out on his team, and hit the locker room with time left on the clock.

This is also the same guy who takes plays off when the play isn't designed for him, and let out that ever so infamous team unity quote of "I play when I want to play".

Hmmm...It's quite interesting that so many fans are so quick to damn Marshall for his actions, and believe he will never turn around, and he doesn't deserve a fresh start elsewhere, yet here we have our very own former malcontent, with quite a history himself. Yet I hear no one here calling Randy a scumbag or a loser or a wife beater. Quite amusing how that all works.

If anything some people might want to at least try and be consistant on their beliefs.

Well it appears to me he has not been involved in any trouble since this article, so I'd say his actions are speaking to back up his words at this point.

Mo would you have preferred Boldin?

Not for $20M guaranteed...

I think it's time we get back on the horse and start developing our own WR's. We just gotta scout a little less for prototype measurables and a little deeper for intangibles like football instinct and drive. That they located Edleman late in the last draft is encouraging. I'd be happy if they fill the gaps with guys like Reed or Mason would have been fine and Branch still might be. People forget Gaffney was on the street and didn't show up here until mid season in 2007. He had somehow disappointed universally since the day he was drafted, but it turned out he had good football instincts and was committed to proving it. Brady doesn't need superstar divas to win. He just needs reasonably talented and committed teamates who do their job and whatever it takes to win, say like Welker does or Branch and Brown did in their day. Kinda like what Manning and Brees had to play with this season on their way to a superbowl one of them was gonna win... Not a Marshall or a Boldin or even a Moss on either of their dance cards. But each had 4 guys who run clean routes and get open quickly and catch the damn ball.

Mid-2006, actually.

The Jets get to one flippin AFCCG and Patriots Nation needs a binky and a nap. I don't care if they sign the ghost of Walter Payton and Mean Joe Green all rolled into one. They are the Jets after all. Me personnally I can't wait to see them play with the pressure of all the expectations everyone's going to put on them. I can almost hear the mediots drooling over themselves about the mighty Jets. Their gonna melt..... Write it down.

Flyer=:halo::halo::halo: Bullsh*t--you're full of it.

Legal trouble? I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me. Google it if you want.

Aside from legal issues, did you happen to catch that little clip of Marshall openly defying his coaches and making fun of the organization in TC last year. Happen to hear about how he almost single handedly tore the Donkey's lockerroom in two after the Cutler trade and all season long? Jesus H, we're not talking about a Palomahu here--this is someone [who I grant you is one of the top 5 WRs in the league right now], but also is borderline TO-level batsh*t crazy and immature.

That's not true.

Oh I hope this doesn't happen..............

Sunday at the Post | National Football Post

The Jets are having internal discussions regarding restricted free agent Brandon Marshall, sources tell Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post.

Lombardi says the Jets would "love to put together a package of players that might entice the Broncos and still keep their first-round pick." It's hard to see the Broncos giving up their petulant star without getting a top pick, but Marshall would be a nice fit opposite Braylon Edwards. This news also sheds some light on what the Jets think of Jerricho Cotchery. Mar. 14 - 9:52 am et

NY Jets coach Rex Ryan has lap-band weight-loss surgery | - NJ.com

Jets coach Rex Ryan underwent lap-band surgery on Saturday at NYU Medical Center to help him fight the battle of the bulge and was relaxing at his New Jersey home Saturday night, team spokesman Bruce Speight told The Associated Press Saturday night. Ryan weighted 340 pounds when he was hired by the Jets in January 2009 and gained at least 30 pounds last season. The 47-year-old often directed fun at his ample midsection but the final straw may have come last month when cameras caught a shot of his considerable belly when he was changing jerseys during a Florida-Carolina NHL hockey game last month.

This is the pic that made Rex decide to shrink his eating habits after looking at it...

Well it appears to me he has not been involved in any trouble since this article, so I'd say his actions are speaking to back up his words at this point.

He acted out in TC and was benched for the opener and again for last game of the season for missing meetings (plural).

Randy is a poor comparison. What happened to him in HS was racially motivated and he was a HS kid at the time. He hasn't gotten anyone killed yet (although Brady might be one of these days if he has to keep targeting him...). And what happened with him in Oakland, though his own fault for shooting his way out of Minnesota in a slightly better analogy, wasn't about getting his, it was about getting the hell out of total and epic dysfunction. He's not my favorite player to retain because I don't think he's mentally tough enough to fight through whatever befalls him to win. I enjoyed 2007 but I think it was an anomoly we won't see again no matter who we sign to play opposite him. Some of that is on him, IMHO, and some of it is on the FO for not recognizing what happened in the 19th game of 2007 wasn't entirely a fluke.

Marshall hasn't ever operated in a dysfunctional system, although both he and his self absorbed QB tried to create total dysfunction out of the gate in 2009. Both just wanted a big contract (and Cutler was po'd because the owner didn't consult him on FO changes...). Josh gave this kid more chances than I would have and the kid still screwed up by reverting to form down the stretch. You find a lot more out about players when you're losing than when you're winning. Denver was still in the playoff hunt and Josh had to bench him. If Bill is ready to move on from a guy like AD, he's not about to add a kid like Marshall who doesn't share his HC's or teamates committment to football.

He looks a little smaller in this pic. then I remember him looking when they showed the clip on ESPN.

Either way that is extremely disturbing. LOL!!!

So was Moss, and where is he playing now?

Sorry, strike two.

Moss has never been considered anywhere near T.O. level emotionally unstable or Brandon Marshall level entwined in the criminal underworld. No player who has played with Moss has ever questioned his desire to win or that he is a leader in the lockerroom.

I agree that everyone here who is adamantly against Marshall and claims he is dirt (and bat**** or whatever else some of you are saying) had damn well better start keeping their beliefs consistent.

Some of you hate Marshall and whatnot and then want Owens (worse locker room problem and it's not close) or have nothing but positives to say about Moss.

I love Moss for the record, sometimes it just takes a player to be in the right atmosphere or maturation. Marshall is an ELITE talent, so it would be worth it.

How bout you find it then since you're having such a difficult time believing it.

They talk about the restrictions repeatedly on nfln. I'm sure if they were wrong they would have corrected it by now.

So, in other words, you aren't willing to support your argument by providing proof. Gotcha.

I honestly believe he acted out because they brought in a young coach who traded his QB, and it severely p***** him off. I must say he went about it the wrong way, but I don't blame the guy in the least for being po'd

What do Marshall's off field problems have to do with his commitment to winning? Just cause he comes from the ghetto and his family is poor so he wants a new contract doesnt mean he doesnt want to win.

No, he didnt handle the contract situation correctly, but it's inappropriate to claim he doesnt have a desire to win because he acted out by wanting a better contract (that he deserved based on play)
