Lombardi: The Jets want Brandon Marshall

I know it's a year removed, but I feel at the WR position it takes a good year to build rapport with your QB. IMO Marshall would be the guy that solves that issue.

We don't need 2 top-level talents (with large contracts) on the roster in 2010 though. So if they drafted Moss' replacement this year (or Tate turned out to be it), then they'd still get at least a year with Brady before 2011 of which Moss' future is unknown.

Yeah, I just started following the patriots because I figured it would be so much fun to watch all these horrid drafts, and wasted picks.

I'm not trying to be a ****, but I'm getting a little sick of all the condescending posts by some of these supposed "pats fans".

This is no longer 2001-2006, and defenses have caught up. If you think fielding second rate WR's is going to cut it I think you're wrong. Moss was a risk when they brought him in. That appears to have worked out ok. When he leaves at the end of the year there is no one to take his place. Except that Marshall is under NO requirement to sign an extension with the Pats. All he'd have to do is sign his tender and show up to play. And guess what? A new CBA would make him an unrestricted free agent. And the Pats would have to use the Franchise Tag on him. Do you really think the Pats want to have to do that? And that is even if the Franchise tag is in the new CBA..

As for what you are getting sick of. I'm sick of people thinking that someone like Marshall will magically fix all the problems of the Patriots offense. You totally ignored the issues I brought up about Marshall. TOTALLY. Yet they are issues that were there LAST YEAR.

And, honestly, I don't see the Pats giving the guy a 4 year deal with everything that's been going on with him. They are more than likely to give him a 1+ prove it contract, which is something that Marshall isn't likely to go for. Then what?

I -think- the trade rule is about UFA, preventing a team from sign-trade to get around the limitations of UFA's top 8 teams are allowed to sign.

You may see no reason not to spend high as a fan, but that doesn't mean there isn't a valid reason to operate with fiscal responsibility and stick to a proven model.

I'm sure someone will provide the link (I'm too lazy) but if I recall correctly the rule states that a top 8 team cannot trade for a UFA that they would otherwise be unable to sign due to the provisions in the article. It's a rule so that another team can't sign and then trade a player to a top-8 team that couldn't sign that UFA otherwise (due to the other top-8 rules regarding UFA's). Basically just closing a potential loophole regarding obtaining a UFA

First, if the Patriots signed him to an offer sheet they determine the length of the contract, and he agrees then signs. I agree it's a long shot at best for BB to offer the years that it would take to get him here, but if they are serious about bringing him here they have to roll the dice and sign him to at least a 4 year deal.

As far as the issues you brought up with BM. I'd say alot if not all that will be cured with a new contract. That's all he wanted last year, and the Broncos weren't willing to do it. Once a team shows they are willing to commit to him long term for fair pay, IMO he'll reciprocate the favor. I am well aware of the risk involved, but sometimes some players warrant that risk. Hell, we could at the very least bring him in for a visit and talk with him. What would that hurt?

That was my interpretation also. No UFA can be signed unless one is lost of similar value, nothing to do with RFA's or trades.

I think we can safely assume that what has been reported about the Jets and their desire to deal for Marshall are all safe indications that they can pull this off if they can put something together to make our little friend Josh happy.

That aside, again, and let me ask you DaBruinz this time before I repost that crickets picture again due to no one having any response to my simple question of what the Pats should actually do to stay up with the top 5 teams in the conference.

Assuming the Pats continue to sit on their arse as other teams bring in Marshall and TO, knowing we don't have a damn TE or even a decent ground game to rely on. And one other thing, now that Vince has his kid's college education expenses well in hand and Mrs. Vince is happy, don't you think Vince will monitor the lockeroom with an iron fist. If he so much as sees one joint being rolled by this rotten apple Marshall in the lockerroom, don't you think he'll address it ? Isn't that part of what we've paid him to do ?
