OT: Joshua Cribbs demands trade

i'd like him on our team... we just have no idea what the cost will be other than the agent recons 2.4 mil per season is a good starting point and the browns offered him 6 years at 1.4 or 1.5 per year

Clearly I am not BB, but I would throw a 2nd round pick and 2.4 mil per for 3 years at him in a heartbeat.

I'd love to see Cribbs play for the Pats. Make it happen!

Cribbs is a player UNDER CONTRACT who is not interested in playing for the browns anymore. I have little use for such players.

He has 3 more yrs in his contract, and for CHEAP.

Unlikely Cleveland will trade him, unless it is 1st rounder +.

Love to see him in a Patriots helmet, but is a pipe-dream.

Normally mg I am in total agreement, I hate it when players whine about previously signed contracts. In this case though, Cribbs is getting a raw deal. Yeah he signed a long term contract, but the Browns organization should realize what an asset he is to the club. And from what I have read, he is not asking for a lot of money IMO.

He is a WR.

Cribbs receiving stats this season...

20 receptions, 135 yards, 1 TD. He's not a WR. He's listed as a WR, but he isn't one. He's a wildcat quarterback and a punt returner. Personally, I'll pass. He's yet another project and would be paid too much to do what he's best at, return kicks.

Getting Cribbs would just be a waste of another draft pick. In the short time Tate was active he averaged a half yard less than Cribbs on returns. The Pats already have their return man for next year, Brandon Tate.

Well you know what's funny? He was QB in HS and college, and got turned into a WR in the NFL. Gee, doesn't that remind you of something?

Hard to gauge whether he can play receiver when he's got a couple of chumps rotating into the QB position trying to throw the ball.

He's a returner with three more years on his contract and has been offered $1.4M a year by the browns. He has had a great year. If he had a lousy year, would he be offerring money back?

Indeed it does. However, Edelman's body of work is more impressive. Cribbs couldn't get open that much in a system that saw Braylon Edwards, their number one threat, get shipped to New York. Now, maybe that's Cribbs' fault, maybe it's Mangini's fault, or maybe it's Quinn's fault. I'm not sure. But, going by the numbers, I'm not sure if I want to invest as much as he's asking for in what would most likely be a project. Would our wildcat be sick? Sure. But not for what he wants.

Has any player is sports history given money back due to performance? none that I can think of. Its a gamble that that goes on in every sport, not just football. Some athletes pan out and are worth their contracts, some aren't.

You can never have enough play-makers on one team. I say, if he's available via a trade, try to acquire him. He isn't a free agent until 2013. But if he's griping about his salary when he's already under contract. Then... Never mind.

Shame. Players such as him, Sproles and Leon Washington are weapons. They can always help a team in some way with their versatility.

Under new direction (Mike Holmgren), the Brown's front office has reportedly offered Josh Cribbs a feeble raise to just $1.4 million per year, which Cribbs and his agent apparently scoffed at.

"If they had offered even something like $2.5 million per season we could have worked with them," Cribbs' agent, J.R. Rickert said.

No longer a one-dimensional threat, Cribbs appears to be well worth the money he and his agent are asking for, and they are intent on getting it.

Agreed. The six or seven times I have seen Cribbs play over the last few years he has been an impact performer in the return game, on special teams, and at times from scrimmage. He is a true football player in the Troy Brown mold--undrafted yet always productive player who tackles on special teams as well as returning kicks--and I do not see the risk in paying him 2.5-3.5 million dollars.

The comparisons to guys like Hester and Dante Hall are not valid, in my opinion, for a few reasons. 1) Cribbs is better than them. He already has more TDs on returns than anyone IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL. 2) Cribbs is built like a running back, whereas Hester and Hall are not big enough to take the abuse that return guys take on a regular basis. 3) Cribbs was a QB in college, whereas Hall and Hester were basically always JUST return guys. Cribbs is a much more natural overall football player.

He is an absolute impact performer in a number of facets of the game, and they can find ways to get him the ball from scrimmage, on reverses, on screens, etc. This is the kind of guy that Pats fans should love, I cannot imagine how he does not help the team get better.

By comparison, Springs's total cap figure is $2.75M for this year.
