As I said, I'm torn. I trust Belioli, but I think this pick sucks. My guess is that Belioli's superior knowledge makes this the right move, and that history will prove that. It doesn't mean I have to like it right now.

You're spot on, here, really. It's all about me refusing to acknowledge that Belichick knows than I do when it comes to this stuff, despite my explicitly noting that he knows more with the words "superior knowledge".

Well the pick of Mayo WAS horrible, because the Pats didn't win the Super Bowl last year! ROFLMAO!

:D :D :D

Different situations, different parameters. Have a nice evening, I'm going to watch the game.

Don't get carried away ... Bill also picked Maroney in the 1st ... :stars2:

Just kidding .. .relax ... take a deep breath.;)

Unless the Patriots win the Super Bowl this season, it was a bad trade. The time in between doesn't matter.

this is so incredibly dumb, and reminds me why I'm so happy we have smart, non results oriented, long term thinking people like BB and Theo running the local teams. thats why these people have jobs running pro teams and you are at home talking about nonsense absolutes

It helps that Seymour hasn't done much since his first game. Which is weird. I thought he'd have a huge year playing for Oakland in a one-gap system.

But I liked the trade when it was announced, and I still like it. I'll love it when Oakland can't re-sign Seymour and goes in the tank next year and we're looking at a top-5 pick.

I know some people say you can't predict the future, but as long as Al Davis is in charge, I feel pretty comfortable with our odds.

He still has his strength but that speed that made him great is gone. without that he's a better than average DT who is very intelligent and crafty. He gave us some great years ... his best years.

At the time of the trade I thought it was a great deal for us. Now, a month in, its looking even better. Oakland is still awful and dysfunctional with little if any long term plan for the franchises future. It looks like we'll be getting a player in the 3-8 range, in what is quite possibly a rookie slotted salary structure.

Agree, but we really need to be cheering for Oakland THIS year. If the opponent rotation continues in 2010, the Raiders get:

Home: Jacksonville, Tennessee, St. Louis, Seattle, AFC East
Away: Houston, Indianapolis, Arizona, San Francisco, AFC North

While I think it is unlikely the Raiders catch the Broncos/Chargers, we really need them to stay in front of the Chiefs this year. Miami/Cincy smells like 2 losses more than Buffalo (on a West Coast swing after the impending T.O. emotional homicide of the organization) and Cleveland (with Mangini likely still "in charge").

I love the trade, especially since Jamarcus Russell will be the long-term qb of the Raiders, which obviously means a top 5 pick for us. We can definitely trade with these guys again as long as Russell is there. Seymour was a great run stopper, that was what I remembered him most for. But was he really the difference between a Super Bowl win and a loss? I think that deserves a "C'mon MAN!"

This is exactly right. Great point. We don't want them to have such a terrible year they finally decide to really shake things up and who knows.. hit on a winning mix for 2010?

Just when I think you've posted the most ridiculous thing I could ever imagine, you once again cause me to expand my thinking.

Seymour had me at "hello" ... now Mayo does.

Given that I wasn't the one posting the thread, perhaps you should take it with that person. And you're right, I've never liked the trade. That hasn't changed, and it won't unless the team wins the Super Bowl. Anything else and this is a bad trade.

I try to stay away from your personal vendettas against certain other posters, however, this is just over
the top...........you need to either dial it down or get yourself to a serious anger-management class.

So far so good, but it's still early. We'll see how this defense looks in January.

On Oakland's end though, it's already proven to be an awful trade. Of course I'll be wrong if they somehow turn it around and become a playoff team. But it's Oakland.

letting him go and gaining a compensatory pick, which would likely be a 3rd round pick, versus a first round pick 2 seasons removed.

Why do you assume the Patriots would have gotten a comp pick? That would have only happened if the Pats lose more eligible players than they sign.

I'm warming up to it, since we seem to rarely, if ever, line up in the 3-4. With the trouble that Ray Rice and Fred Jackson have given us, though, I'd be lying if I said that I don't miss Seymour's presence quite a bit. If we fall just short of the SB, it'll suck even more for knowing that he was why.

When a guy like Seymour loses, you make sure that you get a comp pick for it. Not to mention that, by virtue of having such a talented roster and so many impending FAs, it's almost a foregone conclusion that they would anyways. Pats don't spend big money on high-priced FAs, which is why they get comp picks pretty much every year.

I thought Oakland played the NFC east next year??

All I gotta say is that Jamarcus Russell is horrible. Let's hope he sneaks in a couple of decent games near the end of the season, so the Raiders keep him at the wheel in 2010. He's completing less than 40% of his passes. I'd be shocked if the Raiders pick were outside the top 10 when the 2011 draft rolls around.

They play the NFC East this year (Giants and Eagles on deck). The current opponent rotation expires this year so who knows what may happen. Unless something weird happens like realignment or expanding the schedule, it is likely the current rotation will continue. AFC South and NFC West are kind of a mixed bag...usually 50% good and 50% suckish. Give the Raiders a schedule with the Bills and Browns as well and a surprise .500 season would be at least viable.

It was a must do trade anyway you look at it. Our run defense is lacking though.

I know, Mayo has been practically invisible :)
