So I'm watching the YouTube videos of the Kent State wrestler Jermail Porter who we signed as an UDFA and I'm wondering: are they thinking of him at guard or at tackle? He looks a lot more like a tackle, doesn't he?

6'6", 312 lbs, he doesn't have Stephen Neal's build at all. He looks more like Marcus McNeill. Super-long arms and he's a little high-cut.

Also, check him out playing the role of Larry Nance in this "Great Moments in Cleveland Sports History" video:

The odds are that he won't survive the weekend. He did not even

play high school football.

Sure, but they knew that going in. Porter isn't competing for a spot on the 53, he's competing for a 100% developmental spot on the PS. He doesn't have to show football skills to survive rookie camp, just raw potential, good attitude, and a sharp learning curve.

Right, they're not thinking of him for the 53-man roster. He's practice squad all the way for at least a year. I'm just wondering what position he'll play.

It's definitely cool that he went to the same school as Antonio Gates. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky. And it would be much better to get lucky at tackle than to get lucky at guard.

Like Neal? The kids 6-6 312. Redshirt (IR) him. Could be a nice sleeper who for whatever reason went wrestling instead of football or basketball. There's some kind of good story behind him as a hunch. We'll see.

If you IR him, when does he learn to play football??

This kind of kid is the entire purpose behind the practice squad.

But we're the Patriots, and our guys rarely clear waivers. Maybe there's an apartment availeable somewhere near Andre Tippet or Steve Nelson. Does Hannah still live around here?

Neal played football in high school, he hasn't played any football.

He has a huge learning curve against him as he has to learn a new sport from the inside out, even with the bump he gets from having the hand skills and strength from wrestling he has a big hurdle to get over...at least Neal had some football knowledge to build upon, he has not other than what the average fan knows.

Right on Revere. A lot of forum members will soon suggest that

the Pat's scouts attend WWE Raw Smackdown to recruit players.

No one is going to put a guy who's never played football onto their 53 because he once learned from the Patriots. They have their own players and developmental guys they're working with.

Grocery bagger at Safeway

Good honest answer. I would rather see Dante spend his time

teaching Bussey, Ohrnberger, and Vollmer the Patriot's blocking

schemes than have to teach Porter how to put on his shoulder

pads.

Isn't that what interns and assistants are for?

Maybe. Cross your fingers and leave a post three years from now when he makes his first start. How did the WWF guy do? Brock Lesnar? Oh, I remember now. Nevermind. Neal took some time to develop, if I remember right. And I remember conversations just like this when he came out of CSU Bakersfield.

Did they definitely say he is going to play OL? Maybe they try him out at DE?

Watching the wrestling clips, he wrestles like he's a Tackle.

I think Mangini would.
He tried signing a wrestler last year I think.

Plus this year in the draft, he wanted to pull a BB and kept trading down. Mangini who taught you that? You know he had that smug look on his 'I got fired by the jets' face.

All kidding aside, I think Mangini would.
