DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION The official: Day 2 Patriots Draft Thread

Sporting News had Tate ranked as the 20th best player in the draft. Not receiver, player. Their comparison was Terrell Owens. And he's a heck of a returner. If anything, he steps in immediately as the team's kick returner.

Bottom line: Going into the 2008 season, Tate was viewed primarily as a return man, but he stepped up early in the year to emerge as a legitimate NFL-caliber receiver. Unfortunately, he played in only six games before injuring his knee, and he underwent surgery to repair his right MCL and ACL. Tate must prove his knee is healthy and convince teams he can return to his pre-injury form in order to remain a high draft pick. He has the tools to rebound from his injury and become a productive big-play receiver and return man in the NFL.

I don't like the pick. We could have picked him up later. But what do I know?

NFLN seem to like the Tate pick. What was ESPN's take on it?

well..no one ever criticizes the pats picks. as eisen pointed out , if the raiders had taken tate there would be lot of questions but BB's track record allows him to do such.

They're talking about his "character issues". Herm says Moss will take him under his wing just like Chris carter took Randy under his

due to injury, this is basically like trading for a 2nd round pick next year.

If we stick him on PUP/IR, get him fit, focused and mentally straight he could be like a free day one pick next year. Esp with Galloway and Moss getting on a bit

BTW. How do you know Richardson will get cut? Richardson played on special teams last year and was solid. Injuries do happen.

2007 was one of the worst drafts, talent wise, ever. So, no, I don't believe he has a point. Good for you that you do. So what.

The point is that the Patriots are going to draft players they believe will help this team. And I am saying that the players they draft will be given every chance to make this team.

I don't, it's a prediction. I was a fan when I saw him in a previous preseason, so I watched him when we were forced to use him this year.

I watched him being awful, what can I say?

Of course anyone can make the team, we have many free agents. Actually, I bet we have more free agents than 5th to 7th round picks, so interpret that as you will.

I don't think we'll lack for special teams candidates, but if he's outstanding there, that would be his only route IMO.

I love the pick! I've seen this guy make some ridiculous catches. Smoking pot doesn't concern me that much. He's gonna be our no.3 for the future.

If what Mayock said is true, then I could see the Pats sticking him on the IR for the year and letting him do film study and work with the receivers coaches and Brady in that way while the strength and conditioning staff gets his knee in shape and add about 5-10 lbs to his frame.

BTW, if he ends up be a Terrell Owens, got help us.. Cause that guy is a cancer that just can't be cured....

still no LB choosen; will be used on 89 or 97 ? let's see...

To be fair, you don't really know that. Four WR's just went in a row.

In a draft so devoid of talent, I don't really think it's that big a deal.

This could end up being a huge steal. He is supposedly BETTER then the 1st RD Giants counterpart, Hakeem Nicks.

Profootball Weekly had Tate ranked 7th for WRs in their draft guide

After pick 97, the Pats aren't slated to pick again until 170 at the end of the 5th round. Tate would probably be off the board by then...

Excellent pick talent wise. We'll see about the off field stuff...
