It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Compares To: MICHAEL ROOS, Tennessee -- Like Roos, Vollmer had little football experience until getting into college. He has a lot of upside, but will need a situation similar to that of Roos - finding a patient coach to help him develop. His grade is lower because of a lack of experience and concerns over his back, but if he continues his development he could be the steal of the draft's second day.
Positives: Prototypical height and length for the tackle position. Plenty of upside, and could gain another 10-15 pounds of muscle. Good strength to get into the defender's jersey and walk him off the line. Catches and locks onto pass rushers using his size and long arms, rarely getting ripped off initially. Uses his length and footwork to prevent speed rushers from getting his outside shoulder. Fair initial punch that knocks smaller ends off their path. Has quick enough feet to get inside the shoulder of his man on runs away from his side. Picks up inside blitzes well. Adequate getting to linebackers when he can line them up.
Negatives: Still a bit raw due to inexperience. Played left tackle for UH but is best on the right side in the NFL because he lacks the requisite lateral movement and recovery speed. His pad level is too high on most plays. Will lose the leverage battle and get pushed into the quarterback by stronger pro defensive ends unless he bends his knees and uses his hands effectively. Does not stay with his man if his quarterback scrambles. Could sustain blocks better by moving his feet, as he tends to simply push the defender and lose his balance. Struggles to adjust quickly to late blitzes and at the second level. Houston's pass-happy, spread offense did not allow him to line up with his hand on the ground very often. Must learn to explode from his stance in short-yardage situations.
Injury Report 2006: Missed season following back surgery.
Whether or not next season is uncapped, taking Ron Brace that high tells me that there is no point of keeping Wilfork.
How has it been a bad day for me? I certainly have no complaint with the choices so far and I'm intrigued by the opportunity now available in the third round.Your name was not mentioned -- so don't take it personal. I've had bad days also. :itsok:
I don't whine -- so be careful with your venom.
How on God's green earth does taking Brace communicate to you that "there is no point of keeping Wilfork"?

What is the point of drafting a DT that high only to watch from the sidelines most of the game?
"Spread like a virus" sounds a little strong.
I like Barwin. I still do. I tried to make arguments in support of why. Obviously, BB saw better value elsewhere. I don't particularly understand some of his logic, but IBBIT. No excuses.

As to venom, my word choice was quite precise in response to what you wrote; that we had a vigorous and informative (if sometimes too repetitive) draft forum should not merit the rancor I read in your words.
Though he lacks the athleticism to play left tackle as a pro, Vollmer has the size and length to develop into a starting right tackle in time.
The arguments were solid across the board about Barwin. Remember, he was #2 on my board after Brown. My angst over the matter had to do with his name seeping into threads that didn't involve him. Barwin this and Barwin that, etc. -- no problem with sound arguments presented by yourself and others. I try not to get personally attached to any one prospect as many have exhibited...and today we found out why. Too much disappointment on this board when we ought to just enjoy the process...
Maybe, I wasn't surprised by where he was taken, even if I felt he was the treasure of this draft class for we LB starved draftniks. As to the Texans getting him, is he a TE? SLB? DE? Either of the latter two combined with their current pass rush should make life interesting for Peyton. The draftniks did a great job unearthing a little known 2nd rounder who shot up draft boards. No need to argue about that, guys. Maybe we just had a 3rd round grade on him?
This OL that they Pats took is really risky considering he's coming off of back surgery. A tackle nobody has heard of, may very well turn out to be the next Logan Mankins.
