Pats offering #23 & #47 to Jax @ #8 According to Peter King

Why would Jax leak the fact they're getting dog**** offers for the 8th pick?

Perhaps to let other teams know that a decent offer could still get them pick #8.

I wouldn't be thrilled with Jackson BUT I do see the value of a good backup for Warren and Seymour and a guy who could legitimately replace Seymour assuming he leaves next year.

DL or OT and I'm all over it.

This is a fake leak from jacksonville (who like Lombardi says is desperate to trade down) to try to garner interest If they can make ppl believe New England wants to trade up, the other teams will think, "O, then it must be a good idea, we should offer more" to get our guy. I don't see the player there.

Sure it's possible, but do you have specific reason to believe it or are you guessing?

Yep. I think this is a smokescreen from JAX trying to garner an offer from another team. The thought process is likely to extort a ransom from Snyder. Snyder would likely think this is BB trading up for a king's ransom for Sanchez and deduces it is likely easier to deal with JAX than BB.

Then again...they could be going for Andre Smith.

Teams would already know that based on the fact Jax hasn't traded the pick yet, despite being "desperate."

Just updated on EEI that JAX has turned down and now GB is a player.

2 things come to mind:

1. How the hell would Peter King know this?

2. If true, then are they targeting a pass rusher or and OL?

Thoughts?

He knows because the Jags want him to know. They know they are the pivot point around which the top half of the draft revolves. The more interest, the higher the asking price.

I believe the Pats would ask about what it would take to move to #8, but highly doubt they would actually pull the trigger on that deal. The Pats saw enough of a difference between picking #7 and #10 to risk losing Mayo (probably a low risk but it was greater than 0%). That means the Pats see a significant difference in cap impact between #7 and #10. Why is the cap impact acceptable now when they have several key contracts on deck? And no, they can't assume an uncapped year.

If the Pats do go to #8 or around that area, they are likely looking at one of Raji, Jackson or Curry IMO. Raji and Jackson for position scarcity and Curry as an elite player at a position of need (ILB for the Pats). I wouldn't be upset with any of those players, even at a higher cost than just #47. I just doubt it will happen.

It has to be an OT. I have Raji, Sanchez and Jackson already gone. Crabtree is falling like a rock, between his foot surgery and his prima dona attitude.

I just can't see the Patriots taking the big risk on Andre Smith. I know his tapes look terrific, but if you are going to lay big money out in a guaranteed contract, it's not going to be to a player is in terrible shape, blows off the combine nad test mediocre at his Pro Day.

Curry is also falling, but I don't see the Patriots moving up for him. A more likely scenario is that Washington and Daniel Snyder get frustrated by not getting a trade done to acquire Sanchez and drop down from 13 to acquire more picks. Jemkins is there.

It sounds like we are desparate to move up. #8 and #9 are the best options.

Reports now are saying that jax turned that offer down and the pats are now trying to swing a deal for #9 with green bay

Not to be facetious, but if they're making lowball offers, are they really desperate to move up, or are they just trying to take advantage of a big opportunity?

you sure those tools at WEEI arent just playing games with their listeners

This sounds likely/possible, but probably won't happen until after the #7 pick is chosen.

Hey, this may sound crazy, but... maybe they're after Maualuga?

I know everyone seems to think he might fall quite far, but remember how high the Pats drafted a guy (Mayo) who most thought would be there in the teens. Throughout this whole draft process I've kind of had the feeling that teams were talking down Maualuga in the hopes that he fell.

If not RM, then Jenkins, Curry, or one of the tackles seem like the possible targets. I'd love it if it were Curry.

#8/9 gives you the guy who falls, really. You're looking at a number of guys.

1) Curry
2) Orakpo
3) Raji
4) Crabtree
5) Jackson
6) Monroe
7) J.Smith
8) A.Smith
9) Jackson
10) Jenkins
11) Maclin?
12) Brown?
13) Maybin?

Consider that Stafford will almost certainly go before the Patriots pick. You have your choice of at least 5 of these guys at #9, 4 at #10.

Are you really suggesting that we would move up to 8 to try to get Oher? Monroe and J Smith will very likely be gone by 7.

agreed unless a player was involved as part of the deal.

#23 & #47 isnt nearly enough to get into the top 10 imo
