Box, I agree with you about some of the 10 yd split numbers. I was using the 3-cone as one example, but there are clearly others.

It's interesting that if you look at most of the top pass-rushing DEs and the top LBs that their 10 yard splits are almost identical even though their 40 times vary tremendously: 1.56 (Michael Johnson), 1.57 (Aaron Maybin), 1.58 (Brian Orapko), 1.58 (Connor Barwin), 1.58 (Clint Sintim), 1.58 (Brian Cushing), 1.59 (James Laurinaitis), 1.59 (Everett Brown). It's remarkable to see 8 top prospects separated by only 3/100 of a second. Clay Matthews is the clearest outlier at 1.49, and Aaron Curry ran a 1.53. There are some outliers on the slow end like Rey Maualuga at 1.62, Larry English at 1.64 and Robert Ayers at 1.66, who may have a little less burst.

More interesting to me than their 40 times. Again, not a substitute for watching game film and other analysis, but an interesting exercise nonetheless.
It's very difficult to do, but people need to pay attention to the NFL Network talking heads at the Combine, with the exception of Mayock and Davis they aren't likely to say anything informative, but when Rich Eisen starts name dropping as the camera pans the stands it's an education about where the scouts and coaches are watching...like the DB 40 coverage and Tom Coughlin sitting there at the 10 yd split with his old stopwatch taking notes.

With that said, Day Two CB Lardarius Webb...he showed truly could make-up speed in Texas vs. The Nation, nice numbers, needs some technique refinement.

Vontae Davis CB did 25 reps on bench...dang.

Yep, that's Vernon's little bro all over. The kid's built like a safety, runs like a CB, but he makes me squeamish.

Vontae Davis displayed surprising athleticism at the combine. And he was also a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, so it's not like he doesn't have the college production to back it up. If anything the criticism seems to be that the game comes too easy for him, so it is unknown how he will step up when he gets to the next level and has to face tougher competition.

With all due respect, Vontae Davis' athleticism at the combine was anything but "surprising". He was well known to be a physical specimen from a family of physical specimens, and if anything people expected him to light up the combine even more than he did.

The biggest strike that I've seen is that he was inconsistent at Illinois, and was even benched last season. BB prizes consistency from his key players above almost all else. I don't see him being an option.

I think Vontae may end up suffering from a case of RMS (Reverse Manning Syndrome). Teams will remember how big bro's all-world performance in spandex didn't translate fully to the field, and project that onto li'l bro.

I am.

It looks like another update was done today. I don't have a clue just what the update was.

Also, those must be Combine figures. Noticed the players that we know did not work out at the Combine all have blanks by their names

In case anybody else was as slow as me to notice this, if you sort first by a measurable then by position, you get the positions sorted by that measurable. Geekvana.

I had no idea. That should be good for another 30 or so posts of analysis on this thread.
