everybody weighs 309? maybe it was stuck on something?

One thing jumped out at me in the NOLA blog:

This year, Shaw said he feels the same way about Nelson, a Gonzales native who is a cousin of former LSU star Glenn Dorsey. Various projections rate Nelson (6-5, 238) between the second- and sixth-best tight end prospect.

"He's gonna run 4.4 at the combine; he's gonna shock some people; he's really good, " said Shaw, a former New Orleanian who runs his renowned program in Orlando, Fla. "This kid, he's really a great athlete, first of all. He wasn't using his stride like he should be. He reminds me of (Detroit Lions receiver) Calvin Johnson. He's rated as a guy who'll run 4.6, but I'm predicting he's gonna run 4.4."

In my last mock draft, I mentioned that Nelson could be for us what Ben Watson was supposed to be. If he runs a 4.4, he's no third/fourth rounder anymore.

That and DHB might break 4.2. While he's my favorite WR in the draft, that's based on game film. I had no idea he was that fast. Doesn't Deion have the combine record at 4.19?

I read where someone else from recent Combines actually beat Deion's record, but couldn't tell you who off the top of my head. Those comments on Nelson, especially after he pancaked Maualuga, had me readjusting my thinking too.

Oklahoma OL are Mayocked: Tulsa World: Ex-OU linemen might hear bitter truth

I've never understood why Loadhoad has been regarded as a Top Prospect for two years now. Every time I watch him in a big game, he gets beat like a dog.

Doesn't Deion have the combine record at 4.19?

No. Deion was reportedly timed on one stopwatch at 4.28 during one of the New Orleans Superdome Combines (1984 or 1986).

Bo Jackson has the fastest verifiable time of 4.12 back in 1986 -- also at the Superdome.

Last year, Chris Johnson clocked a 4.24, breaking the record of 4.27 held by Stanford Routt (who?) in 2005. His record being the fastest of this decade.

Ol' Stanford is a Raider, host to the fastest unknowns inside feetyball.

Utah CB Sean Smith says he'd have no problem playing safety in the pros.

"I actually wanted to play safety before I moved to corner (in college)," he said. Smith compares himself to Nnamdi Asomugha. A borderline first-round pick, Smith will appeal to teams that value position versatility in the secondary.

To Sean Smith fans here... that's a juicy little tidbit.

SI's Don Banks is convinced that the Lions will not draft a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick.

Banks points to the Lions' many needs, "the boom-bust factor at the top of the draft," and coach Jim Schwartz's preference for building the team with strong offensive and defensive lines. We would add that there isn't a quarterback worth selecting No. 1 overall.

This gives some support to my pet theory - the Lions draft Jason Smith #1 overall, then offer their #20 pick to the Pats for Matt Cassel.

If Schwartz wants a 3-4 defense, or even a 4-3 I guess, BJ Raji could be the surprise pick.

Stafford certainly wouldn't seem like the lock at #1 that most want us to think.

I know LB going #1 is unheard of, but Curry would give Detroit some flexibility.

Cornelius Ingram-TE- Player Feb. 20 - 3:41 pm et

Florida TE Cornelius Ingram said Friday that he hopes to be drafted by the Patriots.

Florida coach Urban Meyer has close ties to Pats coach Bill Belichick. With the Pats souring a bit on Ben Watson, they could be targeting a mid-round tight end in this year's draft.

Some new notes - 2/20/09

Another receiver to remember …

Clemson's Aaron Kelly. He's 6-5, 193. Said he's hoping to run a 4.4 in the 40.

I asked him which receivers he compares himself to, and he mentioned Plaxico Burress and Randy Moss. "Any of those tall receivers," he added.

Could he see himself lining up on the opposite side of Moss one day?

"Oh, I'd love to," he answered with a huge grin. "I'd sure see a lot of single coverage in that offense."

And Kelly confirmed that he has had some preliminary discussions with the Patriots. Keep an eye on him.

Some Bench Press Results - Offensive Linemen & TEs

Code:
Michael Oher - 21
Seth Olsen - 23
Anthony Parker - 24
Augustus Parrish - 21
AQ Shipley - 33
Jason Smith - 33
Fenuki Tupou - 24
Kraig Urbik - 29
Louis Vasquez - 39
Jason Watkins - 18
[B]Eric Wood - 30[/B]
Travis Beckum - 28
James Casey - 28
Jared Cook - 23
Shawn Nelson - 19
Brandon Pettigrew - 22
Eric Wood would be a worthy Pats target.

28 reps by James Casey isn't too shabby. I have a feeling his athleticism will definitely turn some heads this week.

Umm, aren't we hoping his athleticism doesn't turn heads?

Hoping, yes. I'd love it if he flies under the radar. But I don't think it's going to happen.

Some interesting numbers up for the OLs today at the combine:

- William Beatty measured in at 6'6" 309#, up 18# from the Senior Bowl and the same weight as Michael Oher, Eugene Monroe, Jason Smith and Eben Britton. He had 34 3/4" arms, the 3rd longest of any OT (2nd among elite prospects after Andre Smith at 35 1/4"). And he put up 27 reps in the bench press, less than Jason Smith at 33 but considerably better than Eben Briton at 24, Eugene Monroe at 23 and Michael Oher at 21. He's off to a very good start at the combine, and certainly looks more like a solid LT prospect than a lightweight developmental prospect with good feet. The strength numbers for the other OTs seem rather disappointing, although last year Jeff Otah did 27 reps, Gosder Cherilous 24, and Chris Williams 21.

- Among interior lineman, Trevor Canfield and Karl Urbik put up a respectable 29 reps each in the bench press, and Eric Wood put up 30. Max Unger only managed 22 reps.

I'm not personally too impressed with combine numbers, but its interesting to see. Someone like Beatty, who has a reputation for being a finesse lineman, was able to do fairly well even with long arms compared with a Michael Oher.

Love the kid, but he's more of a big WR than a TE.

That said, he's got speed, athleticism, and fantastic hands. If the Pats are looking for a pass-catching TE in the middle rounds...

Gotta love that my two favorite lineman performed well in the bench press. Jason Smith is going to be the best OT out of this class, but I'm really warming to the idea of Beatty at 23.
