Is it the triad of Pioli, McDaniels and Cassel?

i dont see it getting any worse then those three, and for cassel we already have a replacement (Brady), for McDaniels i dont htink it will be too hard to find one, Pioli would be the toughest of those hits to take

we will see, but if we do lose the above three, dont each of them warrant a 1st round pick? and cassel even more?

could we have extra 1st round picks for the next 3 years?

The Pats will get nothing for McDaniels if he leaves. You cannot get compensation for a coordinator to take a head coaching job.

If PFT is right and there is a rule restricting Pioli from leaving, the Pats should be able to finagle a draft pick for him. The Pats should also get a draft pick for Cassel.

As for replacing them, other than Cassel I don't think it will be as easy as some might think. I think people will appreciate McDaniels far more after he leaves than while he is here. Pioli could end up being irreplacable too.

BB and Kraft believe in grooming replacements. I recall Kraft discussing his concerns in an interview, about this very subject. He said that he could never plan long range with the Tuna. Would he go or would he stay?

But in the case of Pioli, the groomed replacement has left and gone to GM the Falcons. Tom Dimitroff could have stepped in for Pioli, or grown into the Job, but he isn't here any longer. Judging by the Falcons success and great FO decisions, he would have been a good replacement.

I doubt that they have fully grown a replacement in the 11 months since he left, however.

I don't know if Kraft will do anything to keep Pioli, but this is faulty logic. There is no salary cap for front office personnel. There is for players.

BTW, the Pats had Samuel every year except this year. The Pats only had one year where they didn't have Branch or significant upgrades in Moss and Welker. All three of Samuel, McGinest, and Branch were with the Pats in 2005 and they didn't win a Super Bowl that year. In fact, it was the worst year post Super Bowl the Pats had not counting this year (eventhough the Pats had one more regular season win this year than 2005).

There is talk about Pioli coming to Kansas City. Of course it probably is Jason Whitlock's wishes. Does Belichick take over the GM duties along with HC? Does Bruschi move into a coaching position? Josh McDaniels is mentioned for the Detriot HC job. Why he takes it, nobody knows. Do we put the tag on Cassall with the purpose of trading him for players and draft picks.

Two completely different situations.


BB & crew have a specific philosophy regarding how to win in an NFL with the salary cap by placing a specific value on players, not exceeding and over paying for players, and avoiding dead money and poor salary cap positions. Your examples all involve players who were looking to be paid more money than the value placed on them by the FO.

Pioili's paycheck is not bound by the NFL's salary cap. If he leaves it will be due to desire to have more control, take on a new challenge, or possibly try things he was unable to do with the Pats. When a franchise like the Pats is successful, other will over pay if need be - whether it is for players, assistant coaches, or front office personnel.

And regarding the zero rings in that time, that is the same number that 28 other NFL teams have in the same time span. I wouldn't lump the Lions and Pats in the same group of NFL franchises just because they've gone three years without a championship.

I agree, but his duties were not as extensive as Tom Dimitroffs, as yet, I don't think. But who really knows?

Of those, only McDaniel would be a big loss, IMO.

Now, I'm not saying McDaniel is irreplaceable or even a great OC. But clearly we run a unique style of offense in New England.

I'd feel better if McDaniel left after next year when Charlie Weis will be looking for a job.

no matter how much we pay cassel, the guy would want to start, and MOST defenetely wont wait until Brady is gone/retires....

Cassel has shown us something this year, maybe we can reproduce it in kevin?

Cassel wants to create a career, a name for himself, a legacy in the NFL now...he will not be willing to play backup any longer, (especially not for more then 1 yr)

Cassel will leave us, sooner or later, and maybe hell come back in 5 yrs, but he will leave us

i believe it, but problem is, i think there is merit to what another person said that the guy who went to the Falcons may be that contingency plan...at which case this back to back losses of such high front offfince personnel could really hurt us
