The Raiders are the number one rushing offense in the league at 185 YPG and 5.5 YPC. The Patriots defense counters that with the 11th ranked rushing defense at 91 YPG and 4.3 YPC.
The Raiders are the 25th rated passing offense at 211 YPG and 7.1 YPA The Patriots defense is last against the pass at 377 YPG
The Patriots are 13th in Rushing offense at 102 YPG and 4.2 YPC. The Raiders are 25th against the run giving up 120 YPG and 5.8 YPC
The Pats are the number one passing offense at 442 YPG and 10 YPA. The Raiders are the 28th ranked pass defense at 289 YPG.
Clearly we have two teams that aren't very good at defense and get it done on offense in a very different manner. From a Patriots perspective I have to wonder the following.
1. Will we see more 3-4 this week since they will be looking to stop the run first.
2. Will Ridley get a shot at being the feature back.
3. With the Raiders speedy receivers coupled with the excellent running game mean more zone and less man.
4. The Raiders in spite of not having a great passing defense do have 10 sacks. Will the Pats be bringing another TE in to help with the rush? If Volmer is back does that mean more TE time for Solder.
The injury report is going to really impact this game. I think Chung is particularly important as the best run supporter in the secondary. If Albert can play at a high level that's also very important. He's been inconsistent when he's been in there so far. He cannot take plays off or we'll get gashed.
Considering the Raiders rush defense this is a good week to establish the feature back. I'd like to see Ridley get 15 rushes and then go play action off of that a lot. Much less open backfield spread formations.
