Because we have too many picks already and we've freed up the money.
Draft picks are like crack ... i want more of them.

I guess. But I can't really envision a trade scenario, even in a three way, in which we don't give up a high end pick.
Has there ever been a side in as strong a position as the Patriots are going into the draft before? 8 picks within the first 4 rounds is simply enormous. The problem is he hasn't received anything and by our position, we are the "marketmakers" for the 2011 draft.
The problem is Smith is a ahole.
If this goes down, I would bet we get Branch via a three way arrangement. Seattle has alreadt played Seattle so there is no problem there.
Let's be realistic here. The Pats have amassed enough picks to trade for almost anyone and still have a crapload left. It's the equivalent of the Yankees payroll. If they can get Jackson, I say do it. The possible rewards outweigh the risks.
The picks it would take to secure Jackson's services can be used to finish a rebuild of the front seven and the interior O-Line. I'd rather do that than give up the picks for Jackson, personally. But, then again, I'm not running the team.
Because this one is better and much younger?

Mankins is the wild card.Seattle does need oline help. They haven't been the same since Hutchinson left.
I am thinking Mankins/Jackson to Seattle for 2nd/3rd and Branch.
That 2nd and 3rd to San Diego.
For us, it's basically Branch for Mankins.
Many variations are possible.
