Major Needs in Red
Depth Needs in Blue
LT - Matt Light will probably re-sign. If he doesn't, Volmer could slide over and then RT would become a need. I don't see Light leaving our team though.
LG - Mankins hasn't played at all this year, and most people haven't even noticed.
C - Koppen. meh. Don't think we'll be tampering with this.
RG - Neal. Getting up there in age and struggles with injuries. Definitely needs a replacement.
RT - Vollmer has looked great so far.
Our entire OLine could use some depth. Not an immediate need, but we'll pick up a couple OLinemen in the mid rounds. It's hard to say we need a specific position on Oline since BB moves them around so much, but it's definitely a spot where we need some youngsters to groom
QB - We already have one of the best
RB - An obvious need. Faulks career may be over, Fred Taylor can't stay healthy so he might be done as well, Morris has had that same issue the entire time he's been with us. Maroney is gone. So we'll be left with BJGE and Woodhead, two players who are better suited as 3rd down backs, or back ups. I doubt either could be a workhorse for a 16 game season. I expect a veteran Free Agent pick up, plus an early draft pick either in the mid-late 1st or with one of our 2nd rounders.
WR - Moss is a question mark. No one knows what will happen right now. Even if Moss does leave, we still have Welker, Tate, Edelman, Taylor Price... A good young crop of Receivers. After the wastes known as Chad Jackson and Bethel Johnson, plus the high ratio of WR busts in the 1st round, I don't think we'll be touching a WR early in the draft. If Moss leaves, we'll most likely pick up a veteran WR in FA.
TE - 2 young stars and a veteran already on our roster. We don't need to look at TE.
SS/FS - Already used two high draft picks on Chung and Meriweather in recent years. Plus we have good depth at the position.
CB - McCourtey has looked very good so far this season against some good competition, and he should only get better and better with experience. He could be a #1, or atleast a solid #2 CB. Butler, Wheatley, and Wilhite all look like busts so far that have been a huge weakness on our defense. Bodden played well last year, but we've seen what happens when he gets injured. Against pass happy teams that are so successful these days, you need a lot of solid Corners. Bodden and McCourtey should be a nice duo, but we'd always be one injury away from being torched all game. Don't be surprised if BB picks another CB if a good one (Peterson or Akumara) falls into our lap and there isn't good value elsewhere
ILB - Solid. Spikes and Mayo should start for many years. Guyton provides good depth. We couldnt find room on our roster for last years 3rd rd pick Tyrone McKenzie, so I doubt we'll take another ILB in the early rounds of the draft. If anything we'll pick up a veteran FA to help bring along the young players.
OLB - Pass Rush has been our defenses major weakness for a few seasons now. Going into this season with TBC, Ninkovich, and Cunningham was atrocious. Ninkovich is absolutely terrible in every aspect of the game and probably shouldn't be starting on any NFL team. Crable has gone a few seasons without seeing the field and has injury problems. Unless he shows something this year, he'll probably be cut again. Cunningham has looked decent so far and shown potential. He has ideal size and a high motor. I expect him to start by mid-season and continue developing. He's looked good against the run and pass. TBC has already proven he's a solid starter that can get pressure on the QB. He doesnt hold up against the run as well as you'd like though, and might be more of a depth/situational type player who got the starting role by default. He's also going to be 31 by the time next season starts. Even if TBC and Cunningham solidify starting spots, we will still need depth as Ninkovich and Crable are better suited for the practice squad. This is somewhere we go could early with our Top 10 pick from the Raiders if Robert Quinn is available and grades out well, or later in the 1st rd with someone like Ryan Kerrigan. This is probably our teams single biggest need right now.
NT - Wilfork was re-signed, and we recently used a high 2nd rd pick on his back up. Not a Need.
DE - T.Warren, G.Warren, Ron Brace, Mike Wright, Pryor. We have really good depth at the position and G.Warren has played better than most people thought he would so far. Brace and Pryor are still developing and both have done decent. Ty Warren should be back form injury next year. It's hard to tell weather this is a big need, but Belichick puts a huge emphasis on DLine so if the question even needs to be asked, then I'm sure he'll be looking at DLine in the draft. Brace will probably spell at DE/NT next year, and eventually take over the starting position when BB thinks it's time to let Ty Warren go. G.Warren is only a temporary fix at the other DE spot, that was vacated by Seymour and that's where we need help. Luckily, this is an extremely deep draft for 34 DE's compared to most years. There's a high chance that we go after a DE with our Top 10 pick from the Raiders.
