NE interested in Ricky Williams?

I'm not surprised if the Pats are/were interested in Ricky. BB has always liked him and Ricky is one hell of a baller. Certainly, I know Ricky wants to play for the Patriots. I had a chance to talk to him this summer(he spent the summer in Cambridge visiting with his daughter Marley) and he seemed to be in good spirits and ready to go.

I don't think, barring an injury, that he'll suit up for the Pats. Who would they cut? Maybe if this was earlier in the year when Sammy was not as known a quantity, BB might have bitten, but now there isn't as pressing a need.

Don't Rule out next year, though.

It's not a cap issue - he'd be a veteran minimum guy anywhere this season. It's that you would likely have to trade something for him, and his track record screams I never do really learn my lesson. One more failed test and he's out, which means you're out whatever you swapped for him. And desperate teams would probably swap more than a 6th for that shot making it more than a harmless no cost flyer for a team that doesn't really need him.

I think the expectation is that the Dolphins will release him (this is what they were saying on Mike and Mike this morning). I can't see him bringing much in a trade. What are the Dolphins going to do? Insist on a 5th round draft pick or keep him on the roster?

What about that kid from Navy who was playing last night? Couldn't he be cut?

he didn't exactly rip up the league with the Argonauts:

Concern for Maroney is warranted, but not to the point of panic. Whether or not you agree with laws against marijuana, they exist, and the fact that Ricky consistently chose to break those laws despite the risks to his playing status says all I need to know about him.

btw - the fins hate him because he bailed on them so late in the preseason that they couldn't find a free agent (or draft a rookie) fit to replace him. Not that that wasn't enjoyable from a Patsfan perspective. :)

Eh, if he can be had for a mid-to-late round pick, I'm all for it. Always been a fan of Ricky. He's not a bad guy.

Well, that is their MO of late. If he does get reinstated it likely won't happen for a few more weeks, he will have to pass a Miami physical, and he will likely come with a roster exemption they could use to drag things out while desperate teams become more desperate. The last thing Cameron would want to facilitate is seeing another Miami castoff succeeding here...

I think the Pats might be interested in Rickey for maybe a late round pick but there are other teams more desperate for his services that will offer more, Tampa Bay comes to mind.

he could be a 3rd 4th rb....what would the pats have to lose..pay him practically nothing.and he gets a chance to prove himself.

Like that would work.... oh wait a minute it already has with some receiver they got for a 4th rounder.....

They could always feign interest to drive the price up...but why help Miami???....

This is secondhand so correct me if wrong, but my buddy told me he heard BB on WEEI this afternoon say that the Pats had intended to contact Ricky or his agent but were told by the NFL they had to wait until he was officially re-instated. If so, that sounds like "interest" to me....

Ricky has come out and admitted in the past that football is not important to him.

How can someone like that ever fit in with the Pats philosophy? There is NO way. It's not in his heart and being.

There are other reasons to be part of the discussion...to drive the price up, to scout him, etc.

He is not Patriot material.

I find it hard to believe that BB would ever breath a word of it.

Not saying your friend didn't think he heard that, but I would have to hear BB say it himself before I believe he would ever let on about something like that ahead of time. In a million years...

No thanks on Ricky W.

What has Ricky cost teams that have had him? He cost NO an entire draft, from which I believe they have yet to really recover from. He cost MIA several years of rebuilding too, as they seem to keep winding up needing RBs.

Just say no to the dope.

Just like we grabbed somebody that only plays we they feel like it (MOSS)

He was a bust here with the Argonauts last year. He looked slow and was injury prone. I wouldn't touch him.

If we can get him cheap and he can run at 80% of his prime, we can give him a shot. Why not? Past behavior? Since when do we care about that? It's his behavior from today on that matters. Some of my best friends smoke weed...not a problem to me.

I remember his rookie year he only gave interviews with his helmet on in the locker room. Weird dude. A

Didn't he break his arm in Canada? I don't recall him being injury prone at N.O. or Miami.

Maroney, Morris, and Faulk are doing just fine
