Great signing, you can have enough D-Lineman, especially a veteran with prior success.

If he checked out physically i would be fine with Easely in the 2nd but i wouldn't use a first on any prospect with 2 torn ACL's.
Agree with this. I wouldn't target Easley before the 2nd round.

I was reading Rob Rang's latest big board and he stated that Easley could surprise some and be drafted in the late 1st or early 2nd rounds because of the lack of 3-techs in the draft.

I bet if he tries hard enough, he may compete for the oscar this year

Easley was in beast mode last year after surgery for a torn ACL. I can understand the apprehension about him, but he's going to be wearing braces on both knees now and, when healthy, is exactly what we need out of a 3-tech sub-rusher.
I'm sorry, a torn ACL in both legs before he even plays an NFL game, no thanks. I will praying heavily we don't draft him. Don't we have enough injury problems ? And who's to say he would even play this year, his odds may be the same as Mark Harrison's were last year. So we'd be drafting for the distant future.

I feel the same about this I felt almost a month ago. Meh. Would I like him here? Sure, he is a decent enough vet and rotational guy. However to me he is merely a place holding to not lose to bad while either Nink or Jones are off the field. He is the bare minimum we should have had in the first place.

I think a DE is still in play in this draft. But if we don't take one I would not mind as long as we improve at DT. I want at least 1 DL man taken though in the top 4 rounds.

More likely another Razzie. Have you SEEN "After Earth"? He sure earned that one.

That was a stinker, I agree. But come on, he wasn't even trying on that one lol,. At least on the Pats he won't be forced to pair up with Jaden Smith(GOSH) and M. Night ****maman, so there's hope

So who is your player of choice as a 3-tech interior sub-rusher?

The team is very high on him and there is a lot of buzz surrounding him and the patriots. I wouldn't be surprised if our first round pick is easely.

Andre Carter looked like Garbage last season but it was his first year coming off ACL surgery, a lot of players take a full season to be fully recovered, I would not rule him out as another depth signing, he's certainly old and washed up, but a good player and great locker room presence.

I'd be happy to see Carter return, as of now. He's still an improvement over the waterboy they drafted in the 3rd round a couple of seasons ago.

This could be one of those signings that works out fantastically or he's cut in training camp prompting people on this board with their usual post cut comments of "I knew they shouldn't of signed him" etc, etc...

Love this signing!!! We needed depth at the defensive and spot. Welcome aboard Mr. Smith.

Yeah, Easley and Smith can chat about their torn ACLs. I want no part of Easley in the 1st OR 2nd round.

Easley looked very good at his pro day for a guy that had ACL surgery not too long ago. His potential is off the charts; he would have been on Aaron Donald's level if he had stayed healthy. Have you seen his first step? Its one of the best. He fills our need for an interior rusher. I believe it would really put our defense over the top with a good pass rush. He is so disruptive, has some great moves, and is probably the highest motor player in this draft.

That's why I said if we can grab him in the first half of the second round it would be ideal. Injury history is worth the gamble IMO.

Good depth signing, now lets bring in Carlton!

The Saints didnt sign Smith back up.

When Shaun Ellis signed with the Pats after the Jets sent him on his way, this board said many of the same things about Ellis. Ellis did very little in NE, but cash his 3M paycheck. 3M for 1 sack seems expensive.

Yeah, to me this is a meh signing, probably won't make it out of camp. IF he makes the team, he might get us 2 sacks the whole season. Total waste of money and a roster spot.

The Saints had 11.55 million reasons to cut Smith. This is the amount of bonus money and
salaries he was due to earn in 2014.
