JETS SUCK 2023 EDITION (JOKER CERTIFIED): HARD KNOCKERS

I know we have been on the wrong side of a few articles like this lately so here's one about the Jets to make ourselves feel better. This paints Saleh as incredibly whiny and insecure and basically confirms what everyone already knew about Woody Johnson. The way this reads is the GM Joe Douglas is the source. They apparently had zero confidence in Wilson yet didn't bother to make a trade or bring in a veteran (like Flacco who was there last season) but of course Douglas sat idle.

“Hackett struggled to adjust the offense to the team’s new reality. Multiple coaches and players described Hackett as lacking in attention to detail. For most of the season, Hackett would meet with offensive line coach/running game coordinator Keith Carter and passing game coordinator Todd Downing during the week but wouldn’t get together with the rest of the offensive staff until the “last minute” of game prep.” “But behind closed doors, the vibes weren’t always positive, especially when Saleh would see negative press reports. He would often bring up how, in his mind, the Giants don’t get as much negative coverage as the Jets, calling it unfair. In the aftermath of Rodgers’ injury, Saleh bemoaned his bad luck. Throughout his tenure, he has often wondered aloud if he was doomed to the same fate as Vic Fangio, a brilliant defensive coach cursed by misfortune at quarterback” “Woody Johnson is known around the building for being active on Twitter, consuming criticism from fans and media alike. According to team sources, Johnson often shared those opinions with Saleh in conversations about what wasn’t working on offense. Publicly, Saleh avoided criticizing Zach Wilson or even acknowledging his struggles. Privately, the coach pinned many of the team’s offensive issues on Wilson, the line and the receivers and told people getting to eight wins with Wilson at quarterback would be a “miracle.”

“Things went sideways for Saleh after the report about Wilson’s reluctance to return to the lineup. “That’s a problem with the organization,” Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “We need to get to the bottom of whatever this is coming from and put a stop to it privately, because there’s no place in a winning culture … and this isn’t the only time. There’s been a bunch of other leaks.” That sent Saleh into a tailspin. The coach held a meeting with his staff two days later where he asked the leaker to reveal himself, according to multiple people in attendance. “If you come forward now, you won’t get in trouble,” he told them while threatening to take their cell phones. Staffers were bemused by Saleh’s obsession with the Wilson story and his reaction to it.” Of all the jaw dropping revelations in this article, this a shocking indictment against Saleh’s leadership abilities. Horrendous. He has absolutely no direction.

No big surprise, right? He had that big blow-up with Joe Bonigno which was spun about Bonigno betraying Bim's trust. but to me the key takeaway was that Bim was/is the leaker that A-hole was looking for.

This all was totally public, but then Wood **** decided to bring back the band anyhow. That's all you need to know about what a messed team da Jete are.

Just the facts, baby, from:

In the words of one Jets coach, “It’s just such a [bleeping] mess. Something has to change.”
...
“Rodgers isn’t the assistant GM. Joe Douglas is the assistant GM.” This was very evident from the moves the Jets made during the offseason. They signed Allen Lazard to a four-year, $44 million deal despite his poor route-running and porous hands that were abundantly apparent on film. They brought in Dalvin Cook, Billy Turner, Randall Cobb, and Tim Boyle at Rodgers’ behest. Most importantly, they added Nathaniel Hackett as offensive coordinator to woo Rodgers to New York.
...
Perhaps the most catastrophic parts of the article refer to Hackett. He repeatedly stated, “That’s what Aaron wants” and allowed plays to be entirely reset for Rodgers.
...
Through the adversity of the entire season, Saleh’s talking point was, per the report, “What do you expect? We lost Aaron Rodgers.” Many within the organization were unimpressed with how Saleh fawned over Rodgers.
...
When the Jets benched Wilson for Boyle during their Week 12 loss to Miami, Wilson knew his time with the Jets had come to an end. Saleh told Wilson that he would be benched for the rest of the year and traded after the season.
...
However, Saleh then changed his mind and told Wilson to start preparing for gameplay once more. After the loss to Atlanta, Wilson said he did not want to return to the lineup because of what Saleh told him and the chances of getting injured behind the Jets’ poor blocking. Saleh sent Rodgers to talk to Wilson but nothing changed. Their relationship had soured after Wilson lost contact with Rodgers following the latter’s surgery. Wilson decided to play again only after The Athletic leaked his reluctance to start once more.
...
Johnson has already given full backing to Saleh and Douglas for 2024. The Jets just fired assistant general manager Rex Hogan, the fall person for a systemic issue. Perhaps replacing Hogan will help with some of the Jets’ personnel decisions, but it will not fix the culture of ducking responsibility that permeates the organization. One noticeable aspect of the report is that it contains little criticism of the front office, perhaps indicating the source of the leaks.
...
As for Hackett, the Jets seem to be praying that Rodgers will be enough to fix those issues. That’s a risky proposition for a quarterback entering his age-41 season and coming off a torn Achilles. Though Saleh is aware of the issue, he (or Johnson or Rodgers) seems unwilling to take a stand and solve it.
...
This paints a bleak picture of the Jets’ prospects in 2024. Perhaps Rodgers can right the ship, as Garrett Wilson asserted. Or maybe next year will simply be 2023 2.0, even with Rodgers at the helm.

So, in summation, Woody uses what he reads on Twitter to beat Bim and his GM up. Bim resents being crushed by the press. Hackett is incompetent.

Everyone is focused on saving their jobs. No one with any juice is focused on fixing the team.

Woody's focus on Twitter means they'll draft more shiny new toys and continue to neglect major problem areas such as the offensive line.

Can you imagine someone dumb enough to manage a multi-billion dollar asset based on what they read on Twitter? Well, now you don't have to imagine one, that person is Wood **** Johnson.

All good, as far as I'm concerned. Carry on, Woody!

I'm looking forward to this coming Jete season almost as much as New England's. A bumper crop of dark comedy awaits.

I swear, as bad as things were here this year, they ain't Jeteian. Hitch your whole season to Rodgers. Blows up. Do it again. What could go wrong?

A cautionary example to avoid rookie savior quarterbacks picking No. 3. ;)

Favorite quote: (On Rodgers) "He has strong opinions on the way the team is built and we are digesting exactly how to interpret that," he said. "You need an interpreter a little bit there, but I couldn't be more impressed."

Billionaire owner hands keys to team to Rodgers because he doesn't understand what he's talking about. Was an ambassador to the UK because he understands English. Can't figure out why BB ran the **** away from working for this guy.

Woody is the exact opposite of a self-made man. He and his brother inherited their wealth and have been flying blind through life from the start. Thankfully, for us, that extends to the Jete. The fact he "couldn't be more impressed" with Rodgers' nonsense speaks volumes. Reminds me of when Punky was drafted No. 2 overall and Woody told him on the phone that from the team's research he felt he knew him better than his own children.

Yep, the actual 'Born on 3rd, and think they hit a triple'.

Impromptu on-the-record Woody interviews are gold, you KNOW he will say something outrageously stupid. In just a few sentences he essentially handed the franchise over to Rodgers, told Bim and Douglas it's playoffs this year or else, then tossed Punky under a fleet of speeding buses.

There will be some very tight sphincters in Florham Park this coming season led by a huge, loose sphincter (Rodgers). If only Hard Knocks could do a sequel.

They could always make Punky the Interpreter.

There's a lot of Rodgers talk going on here. Feel like I am slacking.
