Rob Gronkowski not expected play Sunday

I would love to know why Dr. Andrews or Dr. Jupiter won't clear Gronkowski. On the surface it certainly doesn't seem to make much sense but I am sure they have their reasons. The question is what needs to happen before they can clear him? Given the amount of time that has passed since his last surgery, the lack of infection, and the fact that he has been practicing routinely then my guess is that there is a bigger problem. I'm not expecting him back anytime soon.

Don't know the medical facts, not a doctor, haven't seen the x-rays, but I'd say the reason Dr. Andrews hasn't cleared Gronk to play is because he doesn't have to. Makes no difference to him if Gronk plays or doesn't so if Gronk doesn't want to play (or members of his team don't want him to play) then Gronk doesn't play. I'm guessing that when Team Gronk says it's time to play, Andrews will clear him.

Like Tesla stocks, you can't hold on to them too long. We should seriously look into trading this guy. He plays like 5 games a year it seems. And now, it's starting to look like a Moss situation where he plays only when he wants to.

Take a look at the play on which he rebroke the arm against Houston. His arm barely grazes the ground. That was three surgeries ago and multiple infections ago. This guy's arm is swiss cheese and he knows it. I'm dubious whether time will help this situation any.

It didn't graze, he put almost his whole body weight on it, and with momentum, it was gonna break. And it broke where the plate met bone. It didn't break in the same spot.

Could be Andrews is gun shy after the RGIII debacle. Also, as he wasn't the surgeon in this case, he has no vested interest in getting Gronk back on the field in a timely manner.

Andrews has nothing to lose and lots to gain...specifically a cozy relationship with an agent that steers clients his way. Being the "players doctor" has value. Andrews is Mr Second Opinion. And he seems to hold power over all sports teams because his reputation is perceived as beyond reproach.
He's not the only doc that specializes in this field...but he is the only doc who gets automatic media coverage...and that can be very useful. Case in point....Gronk. Would people be as quick to side with Gronk if we were quoting Dr Nobody.

Oh god... we're gonna get creamed by the Saints! :bricks:

From breer.
@AlbertBreer: Patriots players and coaches have noticed with Gronk not just that he's healthy, but his playing strength is back. That's led to questions.

All his weight landed on his arm.

Next week, it's likely the Pats and Jets will be playing for 1st place. Belichick likes beating the Jets no matter what the circumstances. If Gronk doesn't play next week and they lose to the Jets, all Hell's gonna break loose.

As many have already pointed out, he landed directly on the forearm with all of his weight. I'm not sure what you were looking at. Sure seemed like a lot more force that what broke the arm initially.

GP by season

'10- 17 (Patriots played 17 games)
'11- 19 (Patriots played 19 games)
'12- 11 (Patriots played 18 games)

But yep he only "plays like 5 games a year".

I bet you were one of those people that would have been ok with the Pats trading Brady after '08.

It is a glancing blow. It impacts the ground for a split second as he rolls; it's not like it is under him and his weight comes crashing down on top of it. I'm not sure this is worth arguing though--I don't think you can argue that is a completely routine play on which no one would healthy would even receive a scratch or bruise.

All his weight landed on his arm.

If your arm hits the ground as you are rolling "all of your weight" does not come to bear on your arm. If he fell straight down and landed on the arm I would agree with you, but his momentum was such that it was a glancing blow. Watch the video again.

Ok so go break your forearm, get surgery, then a little over a month later go run full sprint and try to catch a ball and land like he did on a similar surface.

Until you do that don't try and act like you have any idea.

Just because he rolled after his forearm hit the ground didn't lessen the impact of the forearm hitting the ground.

My simple point was that it was not a hard blow by football or any other standard, and it broke his arm. Starting from that precarious foundation, there have been multiple additional surgeries, at least one of which brought significant complications. I'm no doctor, but this sounds like a dire situation indeed.

Did you stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night? Yes, you are exaggerating. In other news, the sky is blue. We have to put up with you pretending to be a football expert, please spare us your medical expertise. Before you ask, I do have a medical degree.

Can you think of something to avoid sawing Gronks right arm off?

His whole like is ahead of him.

guys listening to post game with troy brown? they all hate where this is headed when aikmen tonight said basically who the source was...tom brady
