NFL admits to screwing Hobbs

Justice demands that the Colts lose the Superbowl. Go Pats:rocker:

Eugene Wilson on the corner, a position he played in college.

Sanders and Rodney at safety with Hawkins rotating between safety and nickle back. Hobbs rotating as a nickel and kick returner, although I like Maroney even better on the KO returns.

And,dont forget, Tebucky Jones is still onthe roster.

maybe the fact that they put eugene at safety and corner at training camp played games with his mind. but i'm not down at eugene at safety like other people are.

a rule is really only a rule if it is enforced.

Over the past season alone I have seen many pass interference calls in which there has been mention that the defender did not play the ball and that the defender did not turn his head. Why was there uproar until now?

Are we going to have to be like the Colts and go to the competition committee to suggest added enforcement to this rule?

that how change happens. it really has to make you wonder if there is in fact a true bias against the pats. as a fan it's hard to look at it objectively because i'm obviously rooting for the pats.

These fans who keep whining and crying about a few close calls on Sunday need to give it a rest.

You're embarrassing yourselves.

Sack up and act like a man.

Watched it again last night on the NFL network.

Not only was Hobbs amazingly adept at NOT making contact with the receiver whatsoever, he seemed to know EXACTLY where the ball was - he actually batted it down with his arm while facing the receiver. Watching the play, I have no doubt he would have turned to face the ball if he had time.

This doesn't make me feel better at all. If anything I'm even more PO'd. It didn't take a genious to figure this one out after watching it on instant replay.
I go to work with 49er and Raider fans and that was the first thing they pointed out to me when I went to work the next morning. Not to mention the non-call PI for us. Ofcourse the Raider fans had to add in "we deserved it after 01."

Screw it,I'm sick of talking about it.

I amnot down on him at safety either, but considering that he was drafted as a CB, and moved to safety, he DOES have the experience at corner....

And, with the emergence of Sanders, and in some way, Hawkins too, and Rodney saying he will be back, and better than ever...moving Wilson may solve the problem, internally, and allow the FA and draft an opportunity to go LB and/or WR.

at least for one year then they need to somehow sign him to an extension. definitely need depth back there tho

exactly ...he was reading waynes eyes and hands. positionned his body perfectly. it happened so fast their wasn't much time to turn his head.

I think you are confusing this play with a play where if you make incidental contact and do not turn and face the ball to try to make a play on the ball it is pass interference. If you make incidental contact while trying to play the ball, they do not call interference.

If there is no contact, there is no penalty. That is how they always enforce it. They missed this one.

They "missed this one." What a lovely way to put it. Oooopsy. :snob: Gimme break. Two years in row that Pats post season ends in a game with a 100% no doubt about it made up PI call. Just absurd.

ya makes me sick to rewatch the game. i can just imagine how disappoitned the players and coaches are. I could totally understand if they wouldn't want to watch the superbowl

Bittersweet, to say the least.

so many things went against us (this 'bad call' too) that, correctly,:

yes-bittersweet to say the least...

still today i really think that the game could have been closed by us before...

sad, pity...

and this further article confirms it - it could have been a third and seven and not first down on 1 yard line...some difference...
yes...a bad call...

The NFL has changed their tune. Supposedly we are all blind and the NFL has a view that shows that Hobbs DID, in fact, make contact with Wayne, per Greg Aiello.

http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2007/01/28/nfl_hobbs_call_was_correct/

Mike Reiss said:
Aiello said the penalty was the correct call because there was contact made by Hobbs. Had Hobbs not made contact, there should have been no penalty called for "face-guarding," which was the explanation given by CBS announcer Phil Simms

This is pathetic. Hobbs did NOT make contact with Wayne on that play no matter what Aiello says. He's LYING. Plain and simple.

This makes more sense. I never expected the NFL to admit to screwing up a call that affected the outcome of a game. This fits better with my expectation of the NFL...(i.e. Had the Colts beaten the Steelers, I'm sure the call on Polamalu's interception would have been a "good call" as well).

The NFL has changed their tune.
The "NFL" never said the call was wrong. One ref said so and he was not speaking for the organization, He was yakking to a beat reporter.

The only press release by the NFL is that the call was correctly made.

Whether contact was made or not, or whether the right call was made or not, the NFL did not change their tune because they neer said they got it wrong to begin with.

Sure they did. One one hand they say there is no face guarding, then they make us some BS that Hobbs touched Wayne when it was CLEAR that Hobbs didn't touch the guy.

If there is no face-guarding, then how could it have been called that way? Especially since it was clear that Hobbs did NOT touch Wayne on that play.

OH, and while that Referee may NOT have been speaking for the league, he IS a league official.

Of course, the NFL would not make a damaging admission that would cast doubts on one of the Superbowl teams. Might turn off the viewers.
Go Pats:rocker:
