Stallworth and Gaffney at least offered something in that department. Outside of Lloyd, what regular has that take it to the house ability?
I don't see it that way. I cant remember a rookies wide out that has picked it up as well as Ebert. Granted nothing earth shattering here as far as play on the field. But considering all the nfl vets that come through and cant pick up the playbook, that says a lot about his intelligence. Id say I'm impressed and look forward to his progress whether it on the 53 or practice squad.
Branch 2002 number 1. Edelman maybe 2

Not sure if this has been talked about but you have to think about the gameday active roster when building a 53 man roster IMO. If the coaches saw that Branch had beat out Gaffney for the #3 spot, Gaffney is a #4 WR that doesn't have special teams value. With Slater and Edelman locks to play each week, that's 5 WRs right there. There's no way we can activate 6 WRs, considering the multiple TE looks we want to use each week. Do you keep Gaffney to be an inactive every week, or do you try to get a young player you can develop on the roster?
Cutting both Gaffney and Stallworth makes only marginally more sense to me than cutting both Meriweather and Sanders did last year. Let's hope that the results aren't nearly as bad.
I'd lean that way RT @Sully6827: Ebert on roster now, plays Wednesday, cut before season and Gaffney re-signed at that point is my guess.
That does not make sense. Plenty of other stiffs remain the roster that could have been cut in lieu Jabar Gaffney. One scenario via Bedard and a follower on Twitter:

makes sense to me......brady never like him all that much as a target the first time around......he just may not fit
also, I think what demps showed last weekend may have shaken up more than just the RB group.....I really think that between welker, lloyd, and branch, that they are going to commit to getting younger guys into the mix more......thye already have enough 31 year old WR's on the team.
