Dan Pompei: Either OchoCinco or Haynesworth will be cut

"ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss isn't buying speculation that Albert Haynesworth or Chad Ochocinco could be released to send a message to the Patriots locker room. Reiss points out the obvious, that the National Football Post was simply passing along one person's speculation rather than a report. Ochocinco has already received a $4.5 million signing bonus in New England, and coach Bill Belichick has been pleased with Haynesworth's approach "by all accounts." This is a non-story. "

and this is the answer to this ric0ckulous speculation.

Ocho was given a 4.5 Million signing bonus. Cutting him holds a 150% chance of happening.

BB impressed w/ Haynesworth "by all accounts" and some one also stated that Dr. Pepper Johnson is also very pleased with the guy.

Pompei's speculation reminds me of the saying:

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

This was easiest one of the worst pieces of trash written this offseason. There are a ton of young creative journalists out there trying to find jobs in this market and we are blessed with someone who had the gaul to put his name on this? Amazing, it's stuff like this with an "unknown" source" "Hello Tomase" that gives mediots a bad name. Somedays I miss the old newspaper days where people were actually accountable for what they wrote.

The fact that it's an either/or pretty much inherently means that it's speculative garbage. Whether or not Haynesworth makes the team has absolutely nothing to do with whether Ochocinco does. They're not competing for the same roster spot. They'll both make it if they do well, and they won't make it if they don't do a good enough job to earn a spot. That's really all there is to it.

Here's a picture of the source (being pointed at):

what example would it make? that you bring key guys in who can potentially help the team, then cut them before they settle into the system?

I can actually understand speculation about either of these two players possibly being cut at the end of training camp back when the Pats initially acquired them.

The thing is, Pompei actually mentions that the anonymous NFL executive made that alleged comment prior to Haynesworth and Ochocinco restructuring their contracts - yet includes it in his column anyways!

That's a critical piece of information that he simply glossed over. It makes a huge difference in the likelihood of either one being cut. Once that happened the probability of either one being released became so remote that it was no longer worth discussing.

I really doubt it.

Haynesworth will probably be an integral part of our shift to 4-3.

And Ocho Cinco will be our #1 WR. Unless there's serious chemistry/communication issues with Brady, he won't get cut. He's a jester, but at the end of the day he's also a professional who wants to win.

Does anyone really need to be reminded that Belichick will cut any player who does not meet his expectations? Adding in the money and draft picks expended, the basic premise of what has been suggested by this anonymous executive is absurd. Either said executive is dumb as a stump or he is purposely floating misinformation in hopes of creating a problem for the Patriots. Which is also pretty stupid. Which sounds like the jets ...

By the way, isn't commenting on players under contract with other teams considered tampering? Maybe Commissioner Blockhead should look into this. Ha!

Hey, it's a tough world out there for the media. Lots of competing talking heads and writers need to get noticed in order to keep their jobs by selling their information. Couched in the terms he used, Pompei can conveniently say he had it from a usually reliable source who happened to be wrong.

Knowing the Pats and BB, this is a real wild story. BB doesn't tolerate anything that wastes time and prevents the team from accomplishing its goals. Bringing in FAs simply to cut one or two to send a message to the team is twisted logic in BB's world. Not only is that a waste of time in progressing the team, but the message it sends to prospective future FAs is bleak.

Just curious, I'm thinking, how many freshly signed FAs (signed for that particular season) have the Patriots simply cut only to send a message and not because they couldn't fit in to the scheme? Right now, I'm not coming up with one.

Dan Pompeii had too much ash dumped on his head when Mt. Vesuvius erupted. Belichick does not waste time with guys to send a signal to other guys. If a guy needs to get the message to do his job, and doesn't, Bill Belichick cuts the guy who isn't contributing or learning the system, not some other guy.

Joey Galloway is the most recent example of a reclamation project where the receiver just wasn't where he was supposed to be when Brady released the ball or looked at him in the progression. Belichick did not bring Galloway in to send a message to somebody else. They thought he could help. He couldn't, so they dumped him.

Somebody ought to fire Dan Pompei at the Chicago Tribune to send a message to the other reporters that idiots will not be tolerated.

LOL... thats what I thought when I read this thread title... LOL...

Its funny what people write to try and get people to read it.

Ocho is making 1 million this year. Yea lets cut him. Good one.

it wouldn't surprise me one bit if bb cuts Haynesworth. when was the last time the fat slob actually participated in practice?

Please show me the last time that BB cut a player within a year of said player re-structuring their contract.

no chance Ocho gets cut, IMO. None. However, I've been saying for a while that Haynesworth could very well get the axe.

C'mon you guys....ANONYMOUS NFL SOURCE??????

Is this the same guy who reported that "the players hate their coach"? I don't think BB traded for AH and OC just to play mind games and then turn around and cut one of them just to 'make an example' of them. This is the stupidest story I've heard yet, and I've heard a lot of dumb things reported by the mediots.

Take this story for what it is worth, Dan Pompei of the National Football Post says that he is hearing that either OchoCinco or Haynesworth will be cut before the season starts to set an example to all the players:

NFP Sunday Blitz | National Football Post

It looks to be pure speculation and pure BS, but I figured I would pass it along. I don't think Haynesworth is a lock to make the team, but I doubt that Belichick will cut him just to send a message to the lockerroom.

Granted, we heard the same rumors in 2007 about Moss too.

theres a first time for everything.

so you're saying Charlie Casserly will STOP floating these false rumors every year, dozens of times a year????

great news...never thought this chipmunk brained hater would ever let the BB hate go...good for him...way to go Charlie!!...oh...wait...:wha:

C'mon you guys....ANONYMOUS NFL SOURCE??????

Joker -I hate Casserly as much as the next person, but the article said "One NFL Executive. Casserly isn't an NFL Executive.
