If you think McNabb is the guy, then this extension is fine.

Of course, if you think he's the guy, you can't bench him against the Lions with 2 minutes to go and the game on the line.

?????
A) Owners spend money to make money, not out of the goodness of their hearts.

B) With regard to the rest of your post, please post a reference to where the Redskins (who have no problem getting anyone to buy tickets) charges more than other teams. Last I heard, it was the patriots who charged the most and it was the redskins who haven't had an increase in average ticket price (excluding premium seating) since 2006.

===========================================

MG, you make it sound like Snyder is using his own money out of the goodness of his heart.

I live here. You should know that the "fan experience" since he bought the team involves turning the Redskin fan upside down and shaking vigorously until all money has fallen from the pockets. FedEx is a dehumanizing experience for these people - - it's quite sad and pathetic.

Snyder has bled this franchise and its fans dry like a Somali pirate. There is no discipline, no vision and no real future for the chaos of this organization. They bounce from crisis to crisis - - and it is all played out in the media, not unlike the Childress culture.

Ask a Redskin fan someday how much he/she enjoys the "Snyder Experience". It will open your eyes.[/QUOTE]

Right on both counts.

Shanny won't do that again if he values his job.

Oh yeah, the FedEx experience is right up there with Gillette.

Ask any Redskins fan about the sign ban, the 9/11 Family Commemorative Redskin T-Shirts the proceeds of which went 100% to Dan Snyder's pockets, the CHARGING OF ADMISSION for fans to watch training camp, the complete lack of security inside and outside the stadium, the ban on tailgates, the ban on media interviewing fans on the grounds of the stadium, the insistence on making player personnel decisions (until this year) .....on and on and on.

Look at ANY list by SI, ESPN, Sporting News, you name it, of the worst owners in sports and you find the same name year after year after year in the top 5. There's a reason why THIS happens every year like clockwork:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/05/08/nfl.owners/index.html

Perhaps in your book that makes him an okeedokee owner. But I live here, I have seen what he has done to a fanbase that is 100 times more loyal and dependent on a team than the New England fanbase will EVER be to the Patriots. Are they suckers? You bet. Is it their fault that they enable this kanker sore of a human being? Yes. Still, people this loyal and this tied to their team deserve not only decent performance but simple everyday RESPECT from the ownership they patronize.

So he hasn't raised ticket prices since 2006. Well so hasn't Peter Angelos of the Baltimore Orioles just up the road. If that's your criteria, then go for it!

Redskins tickets are 8th most expensive in 2010.

Donovan better watch out-- They'll be trying to trade him now--:D

Let me just say that there are a lot of coaches out there who would like to have McNabb locked in as their quarteback. We get spoiled at the top of the AFC with Brady, Manning and Roethlisberger.
I'll take Philip Rivers over Donovan McNabb right now.

The joke is in Dallas where talent just leads to losses.

The joke is in NY, where the Giants went 6-2 and then folded last year, and may be ready to do so again.

The joke is not in a place where the team was 4-12 last year and is in the playoff hunt this year.

Is this post a joke?

You call the Giants a joke and say the Redskins aren't? Because they're going to go from a 4-12 team to a 6-10 team? While spending like 170+ million (not guaranteed, but regardless) to do so?

Good one! They look great tonight.

I thought Mgteich's joke was Heeeeeelarious! :D

Gotta love Danny Snyder planning the big signing announcement right before the MNF game. His team sure did make a public relations splash!

It's weird, but ~ 8 out of 10 contentions on this board center on differing definitions of various colloquialisms.

Edit: even better, original commenter was joking.

Shouldn't Snyder run out of money at some point....unreal. How did this guy make his money anyway?

McNabb needs to refund snyder a little bit after that one

He sold the company he founded for a few billion dollars. I forgot what the company actually did.

Did they ever consider the ramifications of what happens if and when a salary cap is re instituted with the money given Haynesworth and McNabb?

Dan Snyder made his fortune from nothing (his dad was a writer) by basically convincing investors he could create and supply a market for anything. The ventures have often failed, but he's been able to convince investors those were just bumps in the road to ultimate success. He's diversified at this juncture thanks to the cash cow stadium that went along with the team he bought on entirely borrowed money. Worst case scenario for him now is he unloads the 'Skins at a profit (albeit not the windfall that is the case had you bought back in the day). But he's been making so much money off this team due to it's capacity (seating and suckers) and leftover profile as a storied franchise that even squandering it on FA he couldn't spend it all on the team. So he has funneled it into his other interests (radio stations primarily and other marketing ventures and he does want a English soccer team of his own to screw with too). I think most of his assets serve primarily as opportunities to tap a market. He's essentially a snake oil salesman.

I'd wait for the dust to settle as well before assuming the initial spin on McNabb's contract is remotely truthful. Not that the Haynesworth deal wasn't just as horrendous and inescapable as initially described, because of the rules in place in an expiring CBA this deal may well be one of those where nothing is really, truly guaranteed just yet or the so called guarantees are rolling and voidable prior to being achieved... Shanny is an odd duck and snakebit when he doesn't inherit a HOF QB, but even he wasn't on board in Denver with extending Cutler so I can't imagine this was his idea... Smacks of the marketer getting in between the two faces of his product in an effort to diffuse any idea that his product in general is crap...prior to a big MNF division matchup... His timing just proved to be less than impeccable...

This guy and the franchise's core fan base are really at odds these days. They love their laundry but they hate his guts. Along those lines he's banned fan signage from the stadium and he's suing some season ticket holders who were unable to foot the bill in this economy... In the ever changing DC market he can still fill the seats with transient event attenders/casual sports fans as long as his product doesn't become so uncompetitive as to be irrelevant...

Here's more about the estimable Dan Snyder by the respective columnists from Philly (Gonzalez) and DC (Wilbon) this morning:

Gonzo: Skins are looking loco | Philadelphia Inquirer | 11/16/2010

Making sense of 'Redskins sense'

Four Loco...LOL

Shanny's bruised ego exiting Denver didn't want to wait another season for Wade to get canned... His five year deal in DC could end up being a one and done by mutual consent, especially if the choice is between working for an owner who deals behind his back and forcing him to choose between his son and the corpse of Donovan McNabb... or playing grab ass with Jerry and Romo.

As you say, the team cannot be perennial cellar dwellers and noncompetitive, else he risks losing lots of money.

A franchise quarterback is important to Snyder and yes, even to Shanny.

The skins were 4-12 last year, seemingly a wakeup call for Snyder. The skins are in a competitive, tough division. Staying competitive in that division is very difficult indeed. Arguably, there are FOUR top nfl franchises in that division. Obviously, they all cannot be playoff teams in any given year. So, Snyder has taken the approach of boom or bust, with some success every few years. That seems enough to keep the fans coming back for more.

. In the ever changing DC market he can still fill the seats with transient event attenders/casual sports fans as long as his product doesn't become so uncompetitive as to be irrelevant...
