Curran: Brady's dismay is impossible to miss

The fact that the guy with the money says it will get done means nothing, I guess.

Re: Curran:Brady's dismay is impossible to miss

That's because they're soooo much smarter than us. They can't believe we fall for the crap this franchise serves to us on a platter. What a bunch of lemmings we are. We can't possibly see the evil lurking behind everything the Patriots say and do and we should be thankful for these columnists' insights and healthy cynicism.

Bobby Knight put it best," we all learn to write in first grade. Most of us move on to other things."

Tom E Curran... might as well be Tom E. Coli.

I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

When my time on earth is gone, and my activities here are passed, I want they bury me upside down, and my critics can kiss my ass!

while we are at it.

anyways we all know sports journalism 101 take what they say and say what you want.

Do we need to consult body language experts again?

Remember that? What the hell was that about, I forget now.

People who really, REALLY wanted Brady to be mad at Moss, and couldn't handle that he wasn't. So they made up some BS about how his body language with moss was bad... yeah

Re: Curran:Brady's dismay is impossible to miss

I could take the entire transcript of his press conference and completely take quotes and use them out of context - and create an article that would make anyone who is just a casual fan believe that he's angry and frustrated.

However at the same time I can take his actual quotes and use them in their correct context - which paints a different picture, but at least a little closer to reality. Some people simply choose to do the former instead of the latter.

Oddly enough I'm not even directing this at Curran. I was listening to 98.5 this afternoon w/Tony Mazz and they kept pulling different phrases that were being used to try and judge his mood. This thread just made me think of it - because I can't believe how they twisted some of the things he said.

Needless to say I was kind of hoping that Brady's meeting with the media today would have been enough to put this to bed, but clearly that's not happening. At least not yet

bsm posted another take on their site
Boston Sports Media Watch
Listening to 98.5 yesterday afternoon, Felger and Massarotti are not admitting defeat on this Brady situation, they’ve just changed their tune. Here’s how it goes now:

Felger: “Of course we knew Brady wouldn’t hold out, and we know that he’s going to get a new deal from the Patriots that will be close to Peyton Manning’s. But why did they make him BEG for it? They made this guy, who has won three Super Bowls for them, and made the Patriots the fifth most valuable franchise in professional sports, get down on his KNEES and BEG for it.”

Massarotti: “You’re absolutely right, Mike.”
hilarious

The dismay is clearly etched all over his face.

Maybe someday Curran will be a presidential speech writer. Might be a better it for his "skills".

My takeaway:

Tom Brady is smarter than Tom Curran. Curran doesn't know what's negotiating spin and what's reality.

Brady is playing the press by having it both ways -- getting credit for being a total team guy, while getting all the negotiating benefits he'd be getting if he WERE whining publicly.

He's playing it three ways, actually, because he's also being a loyal player rep.

Brady is GOOOD. The only time he's slipped up, I think, was when he hopped around on an injured foot before the post-season to prove to Giselle he respected the rhythms of her life too. He should have been a self-centered prick that week and healed a little better.

He interpreted his body language.. he shifted from left foot to right foot, instead of from right foot to left foot.

He frowned 3 times during practice, that was another clue..

He is also letting his hair grow long, some idiot on TV last night said it is the Justin Bieber look, my wife and I looked at each other and said WTF...

now what was so hard about that ? just reporting what brady actually said instead of some vulcan mind melding and then trying to interpret what he really meant.

Sadly we don't have many competent reporters in this town any more, let alone in sports. Everyone is a multi mediot analyst or columnist whose job is to generate ratings of some sort via assuming controversial or contratian positions on issues, rather than reporting them to us and allowing us to form our own opinions...as a means to engage us in their ratings quest.

These mediots continue to embarrass. Saw Curren on Sports Central last night and literally laughed out loud at the lunacy I was listening to. The latest spin is that when Bob Kraft says "Brady's not going anywhere"/"Brady will be here" etc it's like he's waving his slave master finger at Brady and Brady is no doubt offended by Kraft's tone.
What planet are these media idiots living on?
Bob Kraft is a very smart businessman. Bob Kraft is also close to Tom Brady.
Bob Kraft KNOWS what Tom Brady has/does/will mean to the franchise.
Tom Brady is going to get his money.
The delay (same for Manning, Brees etc) is over the uncertainty of the new labor agreement. If you sign Brady tomorrow and front load the contract with a $45 mill signing bonus and that signing bonus is disasterous to the new salary cap agreement then the Patriots are screwed and will have to shed major football personnel to make it fit.

And here the AP comes out with the other side of the story.

Tom Brady: Contract talks won't be distraction for Patriots - NFL - SI.com

Chris Price, who doesn't seem to post much here anymore, seemed to come to a similar conclusion as the AP. In fact if anything his read on Brady was even more positive, and he accentuated that in his piece.

Much has been made over Brady possibly being angry or upset about his status, with reports of a “disconnect” between the quarterback and the franchise over the fact that he isn’t signed past the 2010 season. But Brady, who is entering his 11th season with the Patriots, sounded an optimistic note yesterday.

“I’ve always been privileged to play for coach Belichick, who, I’ve always said, is the best coach in the history of the league. And Mr. Kraft, I have a great relationship with him,” he said.

“I’m not into playing games. I just want to come out here and be the best I can be,” Brady added. “Whether you make a dollar playing or make millions of dollars like we do make, I really enjoy playing quarterback for this team. I have since the day I stepped on the field. It’s something I relish.”

Ultimately, Brady said he wants to play “for another 10 years,” and said he “certainly” wanted to end his career with the Patriots.

What we have, is a failure to communicate.

Step back a bit. We have the facts, Kraft's statements about wanting Brady to play here and that a contract will get done and the facts of Brady's positive statements as well.

In sharp contrast to the factual side we have the possibly agenda driven opinions and speculation, speculation that in many instances is counter factual or tin hat, of the frenzied media.

It's easy to decide what's factual and what's imagined.

I've seen and heard snipets and read supposed transcripts. Best thing to do is watch the whole cattle call performance with intelligible audio which you can do courtesy of the team website.

Patriots Today - Tom Brady speaks after practice

I come away from watching this with no qualms about where Tom Brady stands on his contract and a myriad of other issues or what he stands for or who he is and whom he intends to play for the forseeable future and god willing his entire career.

Que the koolaid homer brigade...

I don't think its money stopping the deal negotiations atm, i think its the length of the contract. Brady isn't a selfish give me my money guy and i dont think he wants to be the highest paid QB in the league. Like before i think he will sacrifice some $$ for the benefit of the organization.

He has said more than once he wants to play 10 more years.

He has said more than once he wants to play 10 more years.

He might want to play until he's 43, but do the Pats want him until then? IMO, his question is valid.
