Worst Offensive Performance in Recent Memory

The numbers themselves are U-G-L-Y.

- 9 first downs. That's right. Nine.
- 4-18 on third downs. 22.2% conversion rate.
- 232 total yards.
- 3.6 yards per play.
- Brady: 19-39 (48.7%) - Those are Tebow numbers.
- 2.3 yards per rush.
- 26 minutes of possession.

I can't remember a game where the Patriots' offense played worse. The only saving grace in this game is this number: 0 turnovers. No game-changing mistakes, fortunately.

I knew this would be a work in progress and that things would not look good early on. But this is worse than I thought. The injuries to Gronk, Vereen, and Amendola sure haven't helped. But my goodness, how many times last night did a young receiver either run the wrong route or simply drop a pass? A ton.

I thought Brady's numbers would suffer this year because of the young receivers. Yikes, has that proven to be true so far. His stats thus far:

52.7%, 473 yds, 3 td, 1 int

That is very un-Brady like.

They get 10 days to work on things. My hope is to somehow get by Tampa but see the young guys improve. If they don't improve, the Pats are in huge trouble. If they do, there's hope.

I've been watching since the late '70s. Hence the term "recent memory". The awful 90's teams were 20+ years ago.

We knew this was going to be tough but we thought we would at least be doing it with the likes of Amendola, Vereen and (as soon as possible) Gronkowski. Threee of our four top weapons are currently out as well as our second string TE in Sudfeld.

You can;t expect rookie's to carry the team. Edelman did a fine job of picking up some of the workload and he was our clear MVP.

Whine about it all you want, but there were positives from our rookies. If Dobson had reeled in that catch we may be preaching a completely different story right now. He was getting open all day. However, you don't learn without making mistakes. Thompkins again was getting open and getting good seperation...there are just a few areas in his game that he needs to address.

We thought we could ease these guys in yet they became the main focal point...the last thing we wanted.

Gronkowski looks set to come back by week 3/4 and that alone will take a lot of strain away and free the rookies up as they'll put double teams on Gronk all day long. Then when Amendola returns we'll be laughing.

I remember an entire 16-game season that was worse than this. The good news is that the 2013 Patriots have already won twice as many games!!!!

Other side of the coin: Man I've been waiting for a game where the D consistently made big stops.

....... and yet WE WON THE FREAKEN GAME.

and are 2-0 in the division. Usually with that kind of offensive performance, we'd lose those games. The problems we saw are all fixable and Brady has won with lessor receivers than he has this year. Give it time.

p.s. You did notice the monsoon that happened in the 2nd half. Not exactly a game that's gonna see light-out numbers with the best of teams.
