Yep. You read that RIGHT..

Wolf turned down 11, 23 and a 1st in 2025.

That's the sort of deal that CHANGES teams and the Pats fubared it.

They could have had the QB, WR and OT ALL by 34..

At the end of the day the Pats felt they needed a franchise QB and felt strongly Maye had the potential to be that player.

Given that MIN got McCarthy and Turner, I suspect that they are glad that we said no. And they kept their 2021 first.

Daboll and the Giants wanted Maye because he compares to Allen. Big, has an arm, but green and needs development.

Ever wonder why teams are trying to trade up for Maye??? Because they think he can be a fu**ing franchise altering QB. I know some love to hoard draft picks, but we did what we did and got the guy we wanted. Looking at our schedule, we’re probably looking at another high pick next year. We can trade back and make you happy next year.

Okay, old timer. Since we have to go through this for the 470th time:

1. That’s not enough picks to be franchise altering.

2. Why do you assume the players we traded down for would’ve all panned out? The draft is still a crapshoot no matter how many 1sts you have. At least one of those picks likely busts.

3. You basically neglect QB this year since you likely end up with the 5th/6th best QB option waiting until pick 11. You’re now going to waste that high pick on reaching for a QB that’s more of a round 2 talent, or you won’t get a QB at all.

4. So now you punt at QB for next year. Where your best options are Shadouche Sanders and Mac Ewers. Well done!

Oh and by the way, that Vikings 1 isn’t until the 20’s now because Maye just lead a talent stacked offense to the playoffs.

I don’t give a **** if this pick doesn’t work out. It was still the right move. I’ll repeat that 100 times over as you continuously live in denial about the value of the QB position.

Nailed it. This will come back to haunt Patriot Nation unless Maye proves that he’s a top tier talent.

The strength of the draft was the second round. We could have orchestrated a second trade back to improve our position at 11.

And Maye regressed this year and showed the kind of frustration that a QB shouldn’t.

Don’t get me wrong. He’s a first round talent. But so was Zach Wilson. A bust. Or over 50% of top QB picks.

Time will tell. Could it be that the Pats renew Joe Milton’s contract, another first round QB talent who just needs extra time for development, but not Maye’s?

Stranger things have happened.

And, no, this offense is not weaponized. Adding a legit LT in Patrick Paul (36” arms and _still_ able to do 30 bench presses at 225!?), WR Xavier Legette, and TE Ben SinNOT—that’s the look of a loaded offense.

And the best QB of the bunch was taken at 150 by the Saints. All because of the insufferable look he gave in front of the camera as a 17 year old QB prodigy. People can change.

The times have changed. Jets realize the error of their ways. Picking so-called franchise QBs with an anemic OL, which they did TWICE recently, does. Not. Work.

So they, the Jets, got my LT1 in Olu Fashanu the Magnificent. Their talent level is impressive.

And the Saints have a bright future with Spencer Rattler.

The light at the end of the tunnel next year is the LT at LSU. Just imagine John Hannah in a tackle body.

This was a horrible trade offer, in part because of the pick swapping option. Imagine having to give up high picks for lower ones in the '25 draft, after a crappy rebuilding year for us and a playoff year for Minn. This place would melt down, and the OP would be at the front of the mob.

We heard this rumor last week. Why are we acting like this is new information.
I thought this was common knowledge, no? So if Minnesota thought Maye was worth those picks, why would you want to trade him away for those picks? You would end up with maybe the 4th or more likely the 5th or6th best QB. After Atlanta pick Pennix, you’re looking at McCarthy being gone unles you trade up and oh, wait picking just ahead of you is the jets. You think the Jets will swap pick with you? Instead the Jets likely trade with the Broncos and you’re left with Bo Nix at 11 or skipping A QB altogether. Good luck with that.

That offer sucked and wasn’t nearly enough to pass on a possible blue chip QB. Saving this to bring back in 3 yrs when Maye is a top 10 NFL QB. It was NOT 3 firsts. It was 2. You can’t count the pick swap.

Drake Maye is going to be very good for a long time.

This isn’t Mac Jones 2.0…kid has an actual arm.
Agree.

It is misleading to include the swapped pick as part of the haul.

There are 29 teams who would have traded their 1st round picks to the Pats in exchange for the Pats’ 1st.

Next year the Pats will not be looking for a QB, so they will have the flexibility to maximize their draft position.

My “hold your breath” moment was waiting for Washington to pick.

I didn’t want Daniels and would have hoped to trade out if Maye was gone.

I wonder how many teams would have been motivated to trade a haul for Daniels?

Why are you acting like this is news? Was pretty common knowledge they had been offering it ever since they got the 23rd pick. Problem with the trade was Vikings wanted us to either give mid-round picks or swap mid-round picks. Which is laughable. They wanted us to trade down in multiple rounds for the 23rd pick and probably a bottom 15 pick in weak draft class next year.

Another thing is it wasn't 3 1st round picks. It was 2. Since it would have been us swapping the 3rd for the 11th. Which would have completely taken the team out of a potential franchise QB (Maye), franchise WR (Harrison, Nabbers and Odunze), franchise OT (Alt & Fashanu)

But let's play the trade out

Pats give up 3, Vikings give up 11, 23 and '25 1st (probably not higher than 15 in a weak class)

Vikings take Maye

Pats take McCarthy at 11, Jordan Morgan/Tyler Guyton or Xavier Legette/Keon Coleman at 23, Ja'Lynn Polk or Patrick Paul at 34

Does McCarthy, Morgan/Guyton and Polk really change it that much?

Would much rather have Maye than McCarthy

Vegas for sure, perhaps NO.

Basically, Maye for McCarthy, Guyton and a 2025 first.
or Maye for McCarthy, Turner and a 2025 first.

I don't think that the staff was sold on McCarthy as a top 10 QB, even if we could guarantee that we could get him. So, we made the rational deal. If MIN is sold on McCarthy, then they may be better off to have not made the trade.

This is old news, and what’s being left out is that it wasn’t just 11+23+2025 first for pick 3, it was actually reported that Minnesota was demanding that NE send back their mid round picks in 2024 in exchange as well. So it would’ve been something like pick 3+68+103 in exchange for 11+23+2025 first.

Really ****ty offer.

It didn't matter what the offer was. Kraft wanted Maye or any top QB from this draft. Wolf was told by Kraft what to do. Robert wanted and Jonathan pushed. These were the guys that said they never got involved with the draft especially during Belicheck's time. What BS. They were in it up to their knees. If they were offered 3 first round picks then they made a big mistake.

Now a lot depends on changing how Maye operates in the pocket, footwork & etc. That's difficult to do.

Doesn't really matter. The Patriots are not coming close to the SB game in the next 5 years. Patriots will have a different QB when they do.

Sure, what difference does it make if we think that we have a top 10 QB and we could be HOPEFULLY getting McCarthy at 11.
=======
Yes, we could have whatever QB leams left for us at 11 plus Guyton at 23 and a 2025 first.
======
This is a 2-3 year rebuild. We started by getting our QB and a couple of WR's, probably one OL piece (Wallace should fit in somewhere in the LT rotation this year or next.

4 solid pieces is a fine start. We'll know more next year. We will have more work to do on the OL, and likely on the Defense. Of course, we will be signing a WR or two in free agency and re-signing our free agents or replacing them.
Yep. Not unhappy that they didn't take that deal. If Maye becomes what we hope he will (even if he doesn't start until 2025 with a hopefully better OL and skill position talent to work with), this is not a 1 year fix as you pointed out.

Evidently the Vikings thought extremely highly of Drake Maye to offer that. Perhaps we made the right choice.
