Wolf prefers to go best player available

There's a big difference between "Patriots WILL go best player available" and "Wolf personally prefers to go best player available when possible"...

I've edited the title since no other source has been provided
How does "prefers" get inserted into any analysis of Wolf's definitive statement?

"The best player available is going to be the way it is"

"But, just moving forward, it’s taking the best player"

Exactly. The more speaking opportunities he has, the more frequently he says things that make you turn your head sideways
Yeah.. I hope after thr draft his role gets reassigned somewhere. I want cowden in wolfs role, Cowden speaks like a guy who actually knows what he's talking about and is actually convincing.

I'm sure they did but it's OK to be vague.

"We'll do our best to pick a player that can help our offense or defense that we feel can be impactful Day 1."
I suspect that best player available are ranked where certain positions increase the valuation of what it means to be "best".

My belief is Wolf stays in his role this year and moves on next year. I think they need to adhere to some FO Rooney Rule mandates.

I mean this is literally the first link I've been provided to a story about this, and it's page 3 of the thread.

Agreed. I believe Highsmith is above wolf anyways. But feels like Vrabel, cowden, streicher are calling the shots and briefing wolf on things.

I think High actually reports to Wolf as he hired him from CLE

IMO the bolded above and we don't feel compelled to draft for need, so we'll go BPA. Those 2 statements feel the same to me

Maybe. I'm not really saying "best player" or "need"

If true and Hunter and Carter are gone and no trade down is available.
This would be Ashton Jeanty

Would help Drake Maye more than any available OL or 2nd tier receiver

Daniel Jeremiah agrees

I wouldn't trust Ron Wolf's boy with his preference of the toilet paper with which he wipes his nepo-clown ass.

Think we'll probably go Kicker at 4.
BB's not in charge of our draft room anymore.

BTW here's a scenario on the positive side. I hear the Jets are in love with Jaxson Dart.

Even if Carter and Hunter are both gone by #4 we might be able to leverage the Jets interest to get an extra 2nd round pick this year to move down to #7.

Drafting a RB at #4 would trully be a sign outdate-ness.

Pretty much all data, not even "advanced" stuff, shows that the running game is not critical to winning games anymore (Please don't read this as "The running game doesnt matter").

To maintain a lead, keep ToP, avoiding the other QBs, those are reasonable and important aspect of a good running game. Outscoring the opponent, not so much. That's what I meant.

Not only that, Im also pretty sure it is so more statitically probable to find a gem RB in lower round than compared to, let's say just because, an OT.

And I didn't go into the obvious point that if the line sucks, no running back in the world will ever put up big number consistently

It would be a pretty disappointing pick this Jeanty guy, to me, no matter how good he is.

Vrabel and his new personnel guy Ryan Cowden seem to have a better grasp of player value and evaluations.

Hopefully Wolf just has one more year on his contract and will be on the employment line next offseason.

How does this board go from thinking paying $12MM for a RB is too much last year to spending a top 5 pick on one this year?

I value RBs more than most and using a 4th on a RB is insanity. It should be on a premium position (OL, DE, WR, DB) or trade back.

Hope Wolfe trades down into round 2.

If Cowden was the Man then Wolfe and Groh would be down the road.

Thunder is still in the Dynamic Duos corner.

That makes more sense. That's just his overall philosophy, not necessarily exclusive to this year.

Bingo. It’s a generic statement that means nothing. It does however give Sam the opportunity to pretend that Wolf is in charge, when everyone knows that Vrabel is calling the shots. That way, when they make picks Sam doesn’t like, I.e.. any pick, he can blame Wolf.
