Win it for Josh

I think your take is reasonable and I think most agree he deserves a ring if they win but to, "win it for him?". I dunna know. I'd put other people ahead of him on the "win it for ___" checklist.
Fair enough. I clearly put Pats before Gordon in my post to make it clear that it's about the team first bud. Great to know you are a fair individual. Cheers!!

Surely I can't be the only one who read the thread title and thought "Huh? Something's up with Josh McDaniels?"

(As for Josh Gordon, I don't know how a ring would make him feel. Honestly, it might just sting with the piercing power of self-recriminations.)

I would hope it would make him feel good to know he contributed to a Superbowl season and perhaps a continued relationship with the Patriots that will continue to serve him well into the future.

The hardos that are incapable of any empathy because they haven't been exposed to any variety of the widespread personal challenges that a number of people face really bother me. It's pretty clear a majority of that crowd have not been exposed to people with addiction and other mental health issues.

It's sad that some people automatically revert to the old "he did it to himself" mantra. Do you honestly think any normal functioning human brain would do what he's done? The guy is clearly messed up in the head and fighting demons that most people couldn't imagine. Just hearing about his upbringing is hard enough to hear but realizing the opportunity he's been given (numerous times) and yet he can't overcome it, you don't think about the actual root cause? He's not sitting on his couch like "oh let me smoke this J" without thinking of the consequences. He obviously knows the consequences, yet can't overcome it. Shame on you if you can't even at least try to put yourselves in his shoes to begin to understand what might be challenging him.

I wish Josh well, and hope the Pats do win. Not just for him, but for the other 53 guys, practice squad player, coaches, fans, etc. that deserve it for what they've worked for and supported. But I hope he gets to be a part of it.

Generally this is my opinion as well. All the way down to them doing it for all of them.

I also have to snicker at that "drain on society" line.

Dude has made in 5 years what the average Bostonian will make in 50. But ya, f**k that junkie.

Josh has only his disease/himself to blame for him not playing football; his 2013 season is still one of the best I ever saw and as a fan of football that sucks that we (I) couldn't seen him play more. Rules are rules. I get it.

I hope he finds a constructive means to fight his demons.

How long do we have to have "empathy" for a drug addict / substance abuser? After the second chance? The third chance? Fourth chance? Fifth chance? Most folks don't get half the chances Gordon got...and he ****ed up his chance to win a super bowl and get himself a major payday and redemption in the eyes of the league, his fellow players, and the fans. Josh Gordon will go down in the NFL annals as one of the biggest wastes of talent in the history of the league, and he has no one to blame but himself - not the "system", not "society", not the NFL, not the Browns, not the Patriots, not "the man", not anything but HIMSELF. He had every support system imaginable available to him (according to Krafty Bob) on the Pats and he STILL ****ed up...perhaps there were too many people around Josh Gordon telling him it WASN'T his fault and making excuses for him- it was society's fault, it was the leagues fault, it was the systems fault - and not enough people around him telling him to grow up and act like someone who is thankful for his God given ability and his numerous "second chances"...perhaps Gordon needed tough love but was instead treated with kid gloves...

How can you read what you just said and not see that there is clearly a deeper problem? You're right; no normal person would do what he's repeatedly done. Clearly, there is a deeper problem that not many of us can intellectually understand. The least we can do is realize that what has happened with Josh is not normal and maybe consider a deeper issue than him just screwing up and "not seeing the opportunity that's in front of him." I'm not going to cast judgment on another human being without understanding the breadth of his issues. Maybe you have it all figured out but I don't.

You really need to understand: addiction is a DISEASE, not a character flaw. Gordon simply couldn't manage it in the context of his chosen field. You see the same thing in all walks of life, all areas of work, and a lot of people end up dead from not taking the time out to get serious help. It was because of his rare athletic ability that Gordon (nudged along by those who profited off him) kept trying to force himself as a square peg into that golden round hole when he should've been getting help instead. He's now very lucky to be where he's at, he'll hopefully live a normal lifespan because of it.

Best case for Josh is he finds a better rehabilitation program or at least a means of surviving without completely destroying his life, invests his money wisely, lives off it, and uses his experiences to become a motivational speaker for other people trying to overcome their own personal demons. Maybe i'm a softie, but I'll always feel for Josh Gordon. Maybe it's my personal experience with people close to me who have dealt with mental issues, or personally seeing some of the kids I mentor in the inner city who deal with the sh*t that most people would never consider. Unfortunately I don't know the extent of the substances or habits they have to help them cope with their current or past issues.

Unfortunately, the odds are against Josh but I wish him the best.

I honestly thought this thread was about Josh McDaniels

If he showed up at the victory party after the game, do you think he would be allowed in?
He’s reportedly in treatment at the moment, and I’m assuming that it’s of the longer term variety. He’ll probably transfer to a sober living community upon his release.

Honestly, I'm sick of this dude. I am the sort of person that feels joy, never envy, in seeing someone do well. I seriously want him to live a great life, but I do not want to focus on these things when I am trying to enjoy watching a game. His struggles have been well documented since 2013 but now I am suppose to care more because he was a member of our team for a few months. Hell, some people would be laughing at yet another suspension if he were a member of the Jets.

Win this game for us and the players dialed into our success.

Win it because it’s the frickin’ Super Bowl. Win it for all your team mates and coaches that helped get you to this point and that does include Josh.

For years now the Pats have been described as a heartless machine led by a heartless coach on heartless missions... so this is somewhat welcome and different way to describe how the Pats do business... concern for a troubled teammate.

If Josh is a motivator for this team, go for it.. makes no difference.

As far as he being responsible for his current situation this reminds me of the ever present and never ending argument on addictions and mental health in general.. Nurture vs. Nature, in Josh's case we do not have any idea.. it has nothing to do with wising up or growing up, it has to do with inordinate desire to get high. It has been suggested that he is also suffering from a dual diagnosis of Depression/Drug dependency.. Dual diagnosis is more difficult as which one drives the other.. the dark passenger of depression can really f... things up. Josh is completely responsible for what his situation, but there are caveats with that.. if he conquers his demons would love to see him finish out his career as a Patriot.

For the grace of god go I, all my life I have fought both and now that I am a septuagenarian I can drink two beers and just quit, prior to this I either had to drink just one and feel nervous/out of place/wanting more or drink 24 and not have enough.. also prone to depression, which I finally have a much better understanding of and a handle on.. I am responsible for my own behavior and own up to every stupid thing I have done, but there have been many battles waged between the ears and I suspect that will continue.

Is he coming back next year?
Need to steal him in fantasy

You’ll need to wait until the summer before you find out more details on the terms of his suspension and any progress that he’s made. It’s been reported to be another one year suspension, but we’ll know more down the road, although I think that may be rather far down the road.

Win it ALSO for Josh Gordon ? Absolutely yes

He helped us a lot and i do not forget it

I wish him the best

Whether we win it or not will make zero difference to Josh Gordon and his hoped for recovery. If he couldn't get right to actually play on this team, then this is just virtue signalling.

The guys need to win it for themselves and each other.
