Will Campbell's a God

State:

last pass to Diggs

No. Rattler has a very lively arm. In fact, it’s now stronger than Mahomes’. I will go further. Spencer Rattler has elite arm talent. Consider yourself forewarned.in fact he had a similar if less spectacular throw. Start at 1:40 here.

comments come Sunday night. Spencer is due to unleash greatness. Any day now. Like the Ronnie Milsap song. He's a guy really popular in Louisiana.
Yeah, he was so awesome he got benched for a 25-year-old rookie with no arm.
And they brought in illustrious competition like Zach Wilson, Kyle Trask and Easton Stick into camp this year to try to take his job.

The good news is, it's up there with a certain someone else wanting to trade a first round pick for Justin Fields.

Initially I didn't think he looked good enough to be a top 10 pick but then I came around. Then Myles Garrett basically broke the sack record because of Campbell and my opinion of him went to defcon 2 and his play after the injury clearly left the staff shaken as well because taking another tackle in the first round isn't merely looking for depth imo.

I would usually say year 2 for an early pick is too early to say it is a make or break year but that seems what Will is facing. Honestly feel bad for the kid.
I don't think that it is terrible for him or the team if Campbell moves to RT or LG in 2027.

Campbell played very well until his return from the knee injury. Then he faced the 3 best defenses in football, all of whom had outstanding pass rushers. The people knocking him are the people who didn't want them to pick him to begin with, and they were just waiting for the opportunity to **** on him.

In many ways, Campbell’s injury has given him some room against criticism. People don’t remember the Browns game, and Atlanta game.
We shall see how it goes this season. Hoping for the best.

It’s not, the point is to arrive at 5 great starters and a couple of potentially great guys on the bench.

Patriot fans seem to have an irrational hatred of guards, it’s dumb. Campbell will end up a great player, regardless of where he plays.

Yeah, it's not hard to see what you want if you look hard enough for it.

More and more people say the NFL is fixed. If someone is absolutely convinced of that, they will have no trouble finding ample "proof" in every game that's ever been played.

Disliking a player is really no different.

I was thinking the same thing, especially considering the analysis of the original post.

Perhaps talk-to-text came out as 'God' rather than 'Guard'?

It’s a Boston accent joke. State mentioned this, but, the way I remember it, there was an article about Drew Bledsoe during his rookie year about adjusting to the NFL and living in New England. Bledsoe told a story about a meet and greet with fans. A high schooler in a football jacket got to the front of the line and Bledsoe asked what position he played. The kid said “I’m a god.” Bledsoe had to stop and think for a minute before he realized the kid meant that he was an interior offensive lineman.

What's hilarious is that they keep going back to the " short arms" garbage. His arms were 1/3 of an inch shorter than the standard for tackles, that's the length of a fingernail, yet they were actually trying to say that they could see how short his arms were in practice and during games. And numerous former OL who played at a high level in the NFL went on record saying his arm length had nothing to do with the struggles he had at times, especially after the knee injury.

One f the best things, if not the best thing, that Vrabel and Co. have done over the past 2 offseasons is to bring in high character free agents, UDFA, and draft picks. Both Campbell nd Lomu share that quality. Both are known to work their asses off and take well to coaching. The Patriots are going to reap there rewards from that going forward. They have done an outstanding job of rebuilding the roster and overhauling the OL. I think Campbell is going to be an excellent left tackle, but if Lomu ends up beating him out for the position long term I won't have any problem with it, as that will mean that they have gotten even better.

The short arms argument reminds of the ****head sports guy who went on tv during " deflategate" holding a football in each hand saying that he could easily tell the difference in weight between an 11 lb football and a 12 lb football, not knowing that the pounds were psi, and the actual weight difference is that of a dollar bill. The people saying they can see the 1/3" difference in arm length are of similar intelligence, and if they can tell 1/3 " difference then they must have other issues they are trying to overcompensate for.

Because it’s wingspan really, not arms alone. Defenders have to circumnavigate a blockers entire body, not just his arms. I don’t understand why people focus solely on arms.

Could Campbell do a great job, potentially, but one has to ask if it’s optimal… especially if we see him struggling with outside speed.

Wingspan:
Campbell - 77 3/8”
Lomu - 82 3/4”
Crownover - 86”

It’s not a question if Campbell can play tackle, it’s a question of whether another player will play tackle better and Campbell is better suited at guard. Joe Thuney played tackle pretty well, he was a better guard.

Might be better to change the title to "Will Campbell is a Gahd" if you're trying to do the accent.

It seems an entire first page is missing from this post?

the arm/wingspan issue is over blown.
footwork, technique and strength are equally, if not more important.
also, working in tandem with the OL next to you

When Campbell did struggle, it was inside as well as outside speed. he also miscommunicated some with Wilson.
I am willing to bet he cleans things up and is again very good.

I am also thinking Lomu simply is not yet ready to play. Look at last years rookies, all graded higher coming out than Lomu.
They all struggled, with everyones binkie Simmons struggling quite a bit. (Campbell was top 2 for rookies)

Guys that want to move him after one semi-successful season are just being impatient.

Impatient is one potential term although as regards the OP's intent here FOS might be a more apt one. OTOH he wanted to kick the nest and entertain himself with the result and that seems to have worked out for him. Some folks might think for selling out any semblance of credibility that's pretty small change in return but then for that to matter one has to have credibility to start with. That isn't an issue for this OP

Hmm you have a bunch of posters muted? Muted posters and replies to them are hidden.

Perhaps @BTTA values his sanity more than some of us do

Wingspan is a data point, all of it's important.

Like when I told you Vederian Lowe and Chuks Okorafor were wide, but were a poor athletes.

Lowe (really wide) became a middling level backup, Chuks (less wide) just stunk.

Lowe was okay at pass protection because he was really wide, but gave you nothing in run blocking... poor/average athlete.

You don't just need athleticism, strength, smarts and width... it's a combination of all these things.

I don't know why people are so personally invested in Campbell playing tackle, I just want a dominating offensive line and frankly don't care how they get there or what draft picks were used.
