Will Campbell Watch

It was not hyperbole, State actually believed they Campbell was going to be a massive bust at LT, and that Verdarian Lowe would take over left tackle.

State also never wanted Drake Maye, wanted them to trade down and take Spencer Rattler, and then claimed Rattler would have a better season than Maye this year.
Yeah, State was having a rough time post the New Orleans game this season.

I was referring to the Ernie Accorsi quote he cited that backup QB was 2nd most important spot on the team. That statement itself from Accorsi was obviously hyperbole.

Maybe Slate actually does believe that it's true though. Idk haha

Felger and Mazz still fighting the good fight over his arm length looool

Oh, ffs. Here we go again.

We could complain over Campbell all we want, but just look at Travis Hunter who people are already calling a bust and Mr. Half sack Abdul Carter. Things could be way worse.

Sportstalk radio creating nontroversies once again where there are none.. it serves to outrage viewers thus impacting their ratings..
Sportstalk radio is nothing more than entertainment, not much to do with pro sports..
I laugh at folks who comment on a "fact" they hear on the radio, you gotta be kidding me.

Can ward, Travis hunter , Abdul Carter, will Campbell, mason graham .

Easy choice always -- will Campbell
When you look at the ROI its Campbell and its not even close.

We just got lucky

1. Gonzo falling To us at 17 despite the stupid trade down
2. The missed field goal against giants pushing us to pick 3 and drafting Maye who could possibly be the best QB. He was BPA.
3. Mayo winning last game and getting ejected out making us draft pick at 4 and taking the BPA who ended up being the best amongst top 6 picks.

Best of all Vrabel and McDaniels being fired by incompetent management and joining the pats.

Hell of an off-season and draft with close to 10 rookies being on active roster.

Add to that we have the easiest schedule.

Just looks like all stars are line dup for the 7th...

Mayo is going to resurface and take credit for this.

I can't imagine any legitimate gripes about the Campbell pick at this point.

First off, he's playing very well this year. That's obviously the most important thing. Some people were concerned he'd totally flop at LT and have to move to LG. I guess he wouldn't be the first player to have a good rookie year (or start to it) and then end up falling off a cliff with his play, but as of right now any concerns that he can't play LT should be laid to rest.

And then there was a concern that maybe he COULD play LT but the ceiling wasn't that high. I guess maybe you could still argue some of that because I'm not prepared to say he's a lock for pro bowl/all pro type of play, but he looks better than "just getting by" out there as a rookie generally you expect young players who show a lot of promise to improve.

And then there was a belief for many that this was a multi year rebuild so we shouldn't reach for need and just go with the best building blocks and thinking some prospects were going to be better players/higher ceilings even if you thought Campbell would be good. This has been disproven on 2 fronts. First, it isn't a multi year rebuild at all. So the fact that Campbell has been plug and play at a critical position that we needed help at is extremely important. And second, I wouldn't say anyone of the thought-to-be better prospects are really proving that. Mason Graham has been good for CLE but not so good we should be questioning it. Jeanty has been awful. Membou fo the Jets and Tet for CAR have been very good but again, not so much so I think any of us should be questioning it. Even if you think some of those guys have been marginally better this year or you still think they have better long term projections, Campbell himself is playing himself into being thought of as a higher ceiling player too. And I'll even add in that the two guys we "missed" on draft position wise in Hunter/Carter aren't outplaying him either.

It's possible that one of the other guys we could have drafted really take off in a big way and/or Campbell kind of stalls even regresses some, but if you're still questioning the pick then you're just one of those people who is so insistent on always being right that you refuse to process new information and change your opinions accordingly.

I was one of those guys who got a little caught up in the short arm story. I wanted to trade down and pick up another first or 2nd rounder. History is telling us that pretty much all of the OT's taken in the first round have worked out well for their teams, even some in the 2nd round.

But as one of the people who thought the #4 pick required a "blue chip" player like Carter or Hunter and Campbell had too many questions to be called a "blue chip" player. So basically, I wasn't sure WHAT I wanted. I probably would have traded down in the top 10 and taken an OT.

Fortunately, I wasn't in charge. We got the right guy. He's been an impact starter on a good team and he's just 22 years old. And that's ANOTHER key position we don't have to worry about for the next 10 years.

Agree with most of this but I’m still pissed at winning that last game. Feel like the Pats would have taken the trade down, still got Campbell, plus another first round pick next year plus whatever else. It worked out good with Campbell for sure, just really still grinds my gears, freaking Mayo

Just assume that situation means we lose out on Campbell, which is just as plausible

Even if we traded down what's stopping another team from trading up ahead of us to grab their LT, Simmons or someone else? We also probably lose Campbell.

Pats did well.
