I wouldn't mind Belichick electing to receive the ball if we win the coin toss with us having a nice time consuming drive with points on the board. I hate to reference it but something like the Giants opening drive in 42, but with 7 instead of 3.

Bill will probably take the ball first....he doesn't want Atlanta scoring first , the way to beat Atlanta is to make them play catch up , At least that's what I think, but then what do I know ? Bill will probably do what we least expect....

You never know what Bill will do, but here's another factor worth considering. Atlanta, a young team with not much SB experience, could be overly fired up. A fired up offense is prone to inaccurate throws and the jitters. If their offense is overly jacked up and a little caught up in the moment, it might be good to have their offense out there first and get a relatively easy scoreless possession.

If the offense sits and watches the pats for that first possession, the nerves might be more settled by the time they take the field.
I hear you, but I think you're over thinking it a bit. Experience or not, it's still just a football game once the ball is kicked. Both teams will have jitters. But both teams will settle into the game quickly. I was nervous before EVERY bball game I've ever played. But that lasted five seconds once the ball was tipped. Who know? Maybe you're right and I'm wrong. We'll see in less than a week.

I want them to take the ball first if they win the toss. Go down and score first and play with the lead

..and their defense could be the same and over pursue or get caught trying to make a big play..I want the Pats to get the ball..an get 7

I think the risk of letting them get 7 first does not outweigh the possible rewards of figuring them out by the end of the half and getting back to back TDs. Let them have it and see what they can do against a real defense

So true. I think, after the Steelers game, he'll take the ball, but who knows? The interesting thing is what BB's unexpected move vs. Pittsburgh does vs. the Falcons if they win the toss. The Falcons might have deferred, knowing that is what the Pats would want to do. But, should they do that now, knowing the Pats might actually want the ball first? BB mind games can get you from the opening gun. Does anyone know if the Falcons usually defer or take the ball if they win the toss?

Who knows? You can make a good case for either option.

Put a nervous Matt Ryan on the field, stop their mighty O and get the ball at the beginning of the second half.
Make a nervous Matt Ryan get even more nervous standing on the sidelines, Receive and hopefully put him in a hole.

The good news is that I'm sure Belichick will tell us what he's going to do at Media Day, so we won't have to wait long.

still would like to defend first. please defer like you usually do if you win the toss, Bill

I'm sure this is a Vegas prop bet. A year or two ago I wouldve bet the farm BB defers. Now? I have no freaking idea and no way in hell would I wager. I've always loved the deferral and it's usually paid off. Oth, scoring a TD on Squealers last week set the tone for that game. Falcons D is worse than Pittsburgh's so wouldn't surprise if BB does it again.

I just have a feeling he will take the ball and I originally said I wanted him to. After giving it some thought though, I think I want to defer. I don't wanna give atlanta the chance to double dip on us. Getting the ball after half could be huge rather we are up or trailing.

Players are tight at the start of the Super Bowl. All you hear when retired players are interviewed of how tight they felt at the start. If this is true BB will probably defer and let the Falcons deal with the tension. Of course, if BB feels the pats are not that shell shocked he might try to take advantage of this and take the ball. So to summarize....50/50

Please make time go by faster!!!

New England has the #1 scoring defense in the league. I think that Coach defers and lets Atlanta feel the Patriots heat and try and deal with those first-play-from-scrimmage jitters. New England could come away with a pick-6 from Matt Ryan on the opening drive. Wouldn't THAT be something?

defer

get the ball to start the 2nd. try to do the famous double score!!

He should defer, let them handle the jitteriness.
