Note: A player cannot renegotiate or extend their contract for one year - in this case June of 2020, which a quick glance at a calendar would show that this date is after March 1, 2020. Therefore, they couldn't renegotiate it before it voided.

Next note: once the season ended and his contract voided, Brady's remaining bonus money, $13.5 Million, immediately converted to dead money. Any contract he signed would be in addition to that $13.5 Million.

TB12 has been marketing Tom's diet and exercise routines as a lifestyle. I'm sure the TB12 marketing team has their finger on the pulse of Brady's sales of these things. His cookbook sold out in a matter of weeks. They know where those cookbooks were shipped. You don't think it's curious that Brady talked to CA & FL teams when he hit the market? Two areas where something like this could be more popular? Remember, Brady is Tony Robbins' buddy and even presented on one of his tours (Google it).

Truthfully, I looked at that Robbins gig as a test run and that Brady might be looking to a future career as a lifestyle coach. I don't think NE would be his biggest market. He'd have better luck marketing a bratwurst & beer in NE than pliability exercises and avocado ice cream.

That last contract was a 3 year with 1 years guaranteed and a voidable 2nd and 3rd year. It's a way to split the cap hit guaranteed portion on to 3 years.

How does Bill find the money for paying Brady a market (or even just market-adjacent) multi year deal AND get him receivers that weren't trash like in 2019? He certainly didn't get any real receivers in 2020 without Brady.

Note that this is a bad situation GM Belichick created through years of bad draft, FA and trade moves, so it doesn't let him off the hook. But once it's 2020, what's the play for Belichick really? "You can get more money and be on a more talented team, but stay here anyway because...?"

Like what is even Belichick's pitch at that point? Use time travel to draft good weapons and not waste cap space on FA/trade moves that bit the big one? By 2020 the ship had kind of sailed. Like maybe dumping some guys for cap space plus being out-of-character nicer to Brady makes him stay and coast out his career replaying 2019 over and over. The problem is Brady had ambitions to Actually Win For Real, and a bunch of us accurately saw that 2020 was going to be a hot mess even if you ignored the QB situation entirely somehow.

That takes us to, what, paying Brady so you can basically punt on 2020 and make the For Real push in 2021 when the cap space cleared out and Brady is 44?

I dunno, it's hard to see how any of this shakes out worth a crap for Pats fans once the 2019 season is over.
