Why the hell did we not try harder to keep TB12?

A basic fact is that Belichick treated Brady like just another ***** in front of the team right to the end and Arians treated him like a coach. Even if you get the reasoning of not having favoritism (while sticking your dope kid on the staff...) Brady had to just be sick of it.
And Bruce was rewarded with his first ring. Bill might want to re-examine his faith in his own infallibility. Aren't two heads better than one? I love BB, but if what you are saying is true that's stubborn and dumb, not smart.

You missed a biggie - Brady wanted to tap into the aged Floridian population for his lifestyle products. Anyone that doesn't think that was at play here has missed what Brady has been doing for the last 5 years.
I don't think Brady is interested in regional sales. He's a worldwide kinda guy.

You think Brady preferred to have a coach that called out his mistakes publicly in press conferences instead? Arians did that after multiple losses this season.

We could have left Thuney walk and re-signed Tom

Re-signed Tom how & with what money?

Tom's last contract was signed in June of 2019. It was a 2 year contract with almost all of the money as bonus money i.e. guaranteed. Included in that contract was a stipulation that he could not be franchised and that the second year of this contract voided at the end of the season, which occurred on March 1, 2020.

Note: A player cannot renegotiate or extend their contract for one year - in this case June of 2020, which a quick glance at a calendar would show that this date is after March 1, 2020. Therefore, they couldn't renegotiate it before it voided.

Next note: once the season ended and his contract voided, Brady's remaining bonus money, $13.5 Million, immediately converted to dead money. Any contract he signed would be in addition to that $13.5 Million.

Last note: Brady immediately began discussions with several teams - not the Patriots - and less than 3 weeks later (March 20), signed with the Bucs for $25 Million for 2 years with incentives (all earned in 2020 BTW, making his 2021 salary cap number $27.5 Million). He did not give the Patriots the opportunity to match it because they couldn't, even if they pulled Thuney's $14 Million Franchise tender. They were up against the cap (this was pre-COVID opt-outs) and Thuney's $14 Million wasn't enough to sign Brady for a $38.5 Million ($25M + $13.5M) cap hit.

Brady was gone the minute the ink dried on that last contract and there was nothing the Patriots could have done to stop it.

Clearly the answer is yes?

TB12 has been marketing Tom's diet and exercise routines as a lifestyle. I'm sure the TB12 marketing team has their finger on the pulse of Brady's sales of these things. His cookbook sold out in a matter of weeks. They know where those cookbooks were shipped. You don't think it's curious that Brady talked to CA & FL teams when he hit the market? Two areas where something like this could be more popular? Remember, Brady is Tony Robbins' buddy and even presented on one of his tours (Google it).

Truthfully, I looked at that Robbins gig as a test run and that Brady might be looking to a future career as a lifestyle coach. I don't think NE would be his biggest market. He'd have better luck marketing a bratwurst & beer in NE than pliability exercises and avocado ice cream.

Truth be told, I'd try the beer. :)

Sorry, but your wrong. Brady had a call with Bill before he officially became an FA. Bill on that call acted like Brady was still employee 12, saying that they couldn’t go above $22m. That was the final nail in the coffin. Weeks away from FA and Bill wasn’t trying to close the gap. The Patriots never even gave a formal offer.

Plain and simple Bill f**cked this up royally. Year to year ****ing him around with 1 year incentive deals. All it would have taken was the Brees deal which he signed with Tampa: 2 yrs $50m. That’s all we needed to have the best player in NFL history retire a Patriot. Brady proved Bill wrong.

You can read a calendar, right? Look it up. The Patriots COULD NOT renegotiate with Brady until a full year had passed. Brady could call the Patriots all he wanted (and where, pray tell, did you imagine you read this "fact"?) and the answer would still be, "Sorry. We can't modify that last contract".

Stop making stuff up to back your belief that the Patriots were behind Brady's departure. Read Kraft's words - Brady wanted to leave so to respect his wishes and as a reward for all he did for them, they *let him*.

Just admit when you’re wrong. Like I said, Brady and Belichick spoke a few weeks before he hit FA. The phone call was March 4, he hit FA March 18. You’re out of your element.

Come on mate. You know how they could have done it. It's not that hard

That last contract was a 3 year with 1 years guaranteed and a voidable 2nd and 3rd year. It's a way to split the cap hit guaranteed portion on to 3 years.

They could have done the same now.

Hmmmm how about maybe have offered him a real contract?

Well, you can't comprehend the written word so I guess we'll have to just ignore each other. Enough has been written as to why the Patriots were handcuffed into letting Brady go by the language in his last contract. Some of you sound like you wanted the Patriots to try and break the rules and renegotiate before a year had passed. How well do you think that would've gone in the NFL offices?

How (they couldn't until June) and with what money (even pulling Thuney's contract would've only freed up $14 Million)?

Now you're just making stuff up. It was a two year deal.

So I guess on that phone call they discussed the weather?

Out of your element Donny.

In the first place. Bill wanted to play games with these stupid little deals and his incentives. Bill bungled it. End of story.

How does Bill find the money for paying Brady a market (or even just market-adjacent) multi year deal AND get him receivers that weren't trash like in 2019? He certainly didn't get any real receivers in 2020 without Brady.

Note that this is a bad situation GM Belichick created through years of bad draft, FA and trade moves, so it doesn't let him off the hook. But once it's 2020, what's the play for Belichick really? "You can get more money and be on a more talented team, but stay here anyway because...?"

Like what is even Belichick's pitch at that point? Use time travel to draft good weapons and not waste cap space on FA/trade moves that bit the big one? By 2020 the ship had kind of sailed. Like maybe dumping some guys for cap space plus being out-of-character nicer to Brady makes him stay and coast out his career replaying 2019 over and over. The problem is Brady had ambitions to Actually Win For Real, and a bunch of us accurately saw that 2020 was going to be a hot mess even if you ignored the QB situation entirely somehow.

That takes us to, what, paying Brady so you can basically punt on 2020 and make the For Real push in 2021 when the cap space cleared out and Brady is 44?

I dunno, it's hard to see how any of this shakes out worth a crap for Pats fans once the 2019 season is over.

Now you're just making stuff up. It was a two year deal.

In name only. The last five words of the Tweet make that quite clear.
