Why does Arrington play over Ryan on the outside?

Precisely
Just like Edelperson was….
Oh wait, never mind

I love the way Ryan has played this season. Does he get burned, yep, but he shows all the makings of a really good CB as he gets the experience. Arrington is awful outside, they have to have Dennard and talib healthy for the play-offs because any decent WR can toast Arrington when he is outside.

Check your info. Arrington only played 18 snaps. Ryan played 54 including some safety I believe.

Well apart from Wes Welker.

And yes I know I'm deliberately misquoting you to be facetious. Just having a bit of fun.

Hobbs was good in his emergence in 2005 and solid during the Asante show in 2006. However he began to drop off after that. Whether some it was due to injuries I don't entirely recall but I never saw him as our best corner at any time.

Arrington is what he is. Terrible on the outside. Any time someone throws deep on him, I have to close my eyes. That's why we can't afford no Talib & Dennard in the post season. I don't trust Logan Ryan yet either but he is better than Arrington in that spot.

Hobbs only played one year after 2007.

Hobbs was a good enough CB2, and a great CB3. When he was asked to play as our CB1 is when he started to look out of place--understandably so. He was not a Number one CB in the NFL, but he was more than capable as our #2.

Arrington is much better suited to defend within a smaller range of yardage, which is why he's pretty good at our slot/star position.

Actually though, Arrington's play has been much better on the outside than some are giving him credit for, and even yesterday his coverage on a very speedy DeAndre Hopkins was pretty good until the last few yards--when Hopkins burned him at the end. It happens...unfortunately it will probably happen to Arrington again should he be playing that responsibility, but one the day yesterday he was only thrown at once.

No one really wants to see him on the outside but he can play there in a pinch. The numbers vs Arrington this year are pretty damn good actually:

Arrington: 31-59, 464 yards, 4 TDs, INT, holding penalty

Dennard: 29-59, 439 yards, 2 TDs, INT
Talib: 20-46, 281 yards, 4 INTs, 1 TD, pass interference penalty, 2 holding penalties
Ryan: 17-36, 206 yards, 3 TDs, 3 INTs
Hightower: 21-39, 199 yards, TD
Gregory: 11-24, 147 yards, TD, pass interference penalty
Mayo: 14-27, 146 yards
McCourty: 9-16, 114 yards, 2 TDs, INT, holding penalty

Good to know. Glad I was wrong.

Ryan is being wildly overrated by people on this board.

Logan Ryan has more than made up for the Glass-IR Dowling selection by BB. I love his up side CB is going to be Strong Position for us down the Road.

Can't trust stats without a source, especially ones that dont add up.

I generally don't trust stats at all but I agree that a source does make some difference. If it is PFF then in the toilet they go.

I don't think I can agree with you here; I'm really happy with the Ryan pick but that doesn't change that the 33rd overall pick in 2011 draft was a wasted asset. It helps but we have other positions on the team that could have benefited from that selection.
