What did Barthelmes do that was that bad...or didn't do??? I also don't think Reche belongs on this list.. if he had a few drops of course, but he actually should be on neither.

Remember one of those plays later on, where I think Cobbs was stuffed in the backfield? It was Barthelmes who got pushed aside. Box also said he was having trouble with run blocking on other plays.

I think we all expected more out of Caldwell.

Who's not - Beisel, Chad Scott.

The main positive was the running backs. Maroney is a stud. The only reason not to write him in for 1400 yds and 12 TDs right now is......Corey Dillon looked terrific too. Faulk came in for 1 play and showed why he will continue to fill the 3rd down back role. Cobbs was also productive even if the guys playing against him will be stocking shelves in 2 weeks. He is a guy to watch the next 3 weeks.

Cassel was awful early - missing open guys, throwing the ball into the ground, looked rattled a little bit. Then he was good late - solid decisions, accurate, poised.

Mills looks like a player.

There was very little separation by our WRs tonight.

After reading many of the comments by everyone else I think most of what I saw last night has been said. Except I would put Andrews on the Hot list. Even though he didn't have any one great play on special teams I thought he looked sharp back there. I was annoyed by the commenst of how he got planted on a punt retrn because it looked to me that he initiated that contact. He also had some good hits at the end of the game on defense.

It is also funny to notice how many here, including myself, do not trust Gramatica and how we all have to admit he looked pretty good last night

Finally I would not be too down on Roach. According to what I have read he is just starting to come on in TC. One game on the pro level is more of an eye opener for him then anythings else

I thought Chad Scott looked good.

Patrick Cobbs
Corey Dillon
Martin Gramatica
Laurence Maroney
Garrett Mills
Jeremy Mincey
Asante Samuel
Le Kevin Smith
Santonio Thomas
Ben Watson
Pierre Woods

Who's Not:

Brian Barthelmes
Reche Caldwell
Matt Cassel (had flashes, but struggled in the red zone)
Heath Evans (2 YPC)
Brandon Gorin
Freddie Roach
Guss Scott

Add Sullivan to your not list and you nailed it. That guy is a big freaking joke. Watch the game over again. Every time he's in there he gets killed and the Falcons gash them right up the gut. He won't be around much longer in my opinion.

Andrews should definitely be on the hot list. He probably made the roster; not bad for a 7th rounder in his first preseason game.

I thought these two kids a solid job. Le Kevin was lined up at both NT and DE (but much more DE). Santonio also showed a little burst. Sullivan looked allright but was on the ground few times and got caught up in double team blocks. For any of us 4-3 fans, I saw very little of this defense.

Who's Not:
Monty Beisel: I know he didn't practice much this week. But coming in with the second team and then not making any plays, showing the same slow reaction time as last year was bad. I know the LB's as a whole made a bunch of mistakes but he's supposed to be a starter and struggles against Atlanta's #2's? Bad omen

I agree on Santonio & LeKevin, I was noticing #92 & #65 a lot. I think they provide some decent depth. Though I'm a huge Pats fan, some Atlanta guys really caught my eye too. That fricken Koenen guy is amazing. What a leg !! They were smart in drafting Jerious Norwood, Dunn is 31 now, and won't be great forever. Norwood showed me a lot. They also had a safety, #40, don't remember his name, but he hits like a mack truck !! Atlanta should be tough, but unless they fix that run defense they could be in trouble. The NFC is wide open, as always, ya never know.

Samuel is fast becoming one of my favorite Patriots to watch. However, his interception and pass defensed are easily cancelled out by his poor coverage on Michael Jenkins' TD. Samuel trailed Jenkins the whole way, he was out of position on that play. Easy touchdown by Schaub.

Add Gene Merc tothe NOT list. He was knocked on his ass acouple of times.

Also Gorin at Lt- He'll be a decent sub at RT. Hope Nick comes back soon.

IMO, Cassel did fine ---
consider what he had to work with - Oline and receivers.
As game when on ... he got a rythmn and made some plays to keep drives
alive.

On the sack/fumble. He was glued to the recievers down field when the TE was wide open to his right. He had enough time to look and throw to the TE. Bad play all around with Gorin helping out.

Did you notice Santonio when he almost got he sack on the 3rd string QB. Holmes got knocked down as he was diving for the QB, and it seemed to me he just layed on the ground for 2 or 3 seconds, right at the QB's feet. Then he seemed to realize the QB was still there, took a swipe at his feet and missed. The QB then took off on a long run. I think if Holmes got up right away, he would have had the sack.

Yeah, that was irritating but, as you said, I think it was more a case of not understanding where the ball was than laziness. Thomas and Smith definitely flashed some last night.

Samuel had his ups and downs, and I don't remember seeing Hobbs anywhere, they must have picked on Samuel.

* I think Hobbs was only in there when Vick was playing and as a lefty, he'd tend to throw to the other side of the field. Samuel's INT was a poorly, underthown ball and the TD he gave up, while right on the guy, his lack of size allwoed the WR to just take keep Samuel away from the ball. I didn't think any DB really showed much, but they need good front 7 play.

Hobbs was in for Schaub's first series, his first pass was incomplete to Hobbs' receiver.

It's funny that you mention Norwood. He was one guy I was keen on the Pats drafting as a midround selection to back up Dillon since I thought the Pats would go WR early. Of course once the Pats took Maroney in the 1st I forgot all about RB. But Norwood looked good. I think he's a find for the Falcons.

Well both team's run defenses looked porous today. A lot of it may be the talent they were facing... but I think execution is a big part too. The Pats didn't show they knew how to handle the Falcons run blocking scheme and it showed with the huge holes they Falcon RBs had.

Pats need help at ILB. That's all I've got to say right now.

Guss got beat on a couple of plays. The Norwood TD

You can't use the Norwood TD as a measure as the QB had enough time to make a sandwich before he through that pass.

Actually, I agree with Upstater1: Chad Scott looked good. He was solid and made a few good pass-defendeds. He's an excellent tackler and they've been using him at LB in the nickel during TC. He can play three positions (CB, S and possibly nickel LB). He's a keeper and BB publicly raves about him. To BB, Chad Scott is in the Larry Izzo category. Savvy veteran who will do anything for the team and will do it well.
