I still like quite a few players today. But whoever they pick is likely to have/need special teams ability. Bar a QB they likely aren't going to make the team without it.
I'm particularly focused on a LB who can run. I've been on Christian Sam for a while but I would also like to see us pick up Shaun Dion Hamilton from Alabama - injuries are a concern but he could be a steal if given a redshirt year. I also love the upside of Foyesade Oluokun. I'd love if we could snag him in the 7th.
Few guys I like:
Duke Ejiofor
Ian Thomas
DaeSean Hamilton
Dane Cruikshank
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo
Anthony Averett
Christian Sam
Troy Apke
Shaun Dion Hamilton
Foyesade Oluokun,
Kentavius Street
Mark Walton
Antonio Callaway (although likely off their board)
If the Pats pull another Alfonzo Dennard & draffed Callaway in rounds 6-7, he probably wins one of the three WR spots & makes a sizeable year 1 impact. It’s frustrating that he’s almost the perfect Patriots WR on the field.
I don't think he could learn the offense. He's habitually dumb. Poor choice after poor choice, and he just keeps blowing every chance he gets. No thanks.
New England Patriots 2018 Salary CapAnyone know how many roster spots on the 90 will be open, if they make the 5 picks they have today?
Any chance they take a punter today (or even a kicker)?
BB always takes specialists a bit higher than you think. Ryan Allen is in the last year of his contract and could clearly be upgraded. Gostkowski has a $5m cap hit this year and is also in the last year of his contract.
If there is a Johnny Hekker type in the draft Bill might pull the trigger. He's seemingly enamoured with these types of players.
I'm really interested in WR Richie James.
I feel we still don't have a backup to Edelman; a receiver who can run the full route tree and get open almost instantly.
That's a great list and I also like S Deshon Elliot who may be available in the 4th/5th rounds.
I am kinda sick of this narrative. Until last season where he ended on IR for a torn pec he missed 13 games out of 97 and was directly involved in critical plays to win SBs (stop Lynch in '14 and strip sack Ryan in '16).
You wanna know how many games Luke Kuechly missed in the same timeframe ? 9 games.
BTW here are some of the recent 4th round picks by the Pats
James White
Trey Flowers
Shaq Mason
Malcolm Mitchell
Deatrich Wise
Decent little track record over the last few years
It has been said that we need some athleticism at the LB position.
